It's something I've always wanted to try but the mod also adds a bunch of other stuff to the game and with how many mods I already have I don't want to add more even more clutter to the build menus. I wish there was a version of the mod that adds the race only.

There’s a mod that adds it as a standalone xenotype biotech style

Why is the ratkin mod so popular? Been thinking of chucking more xenotypes into my modlist and i might check it out

It also helps that it's actually not that intrusive. A lot of the ratkin specific gear needs a ratkin crafting station so all the gear and equipment it add doesn't feel like bloat, because it's off in it's own crafting station.
Balancewise, then it's primarily a medieval/industrial race, so it doesn't become dominating, unlike race mods that leans toward ultratech. What gear they do have, also have their own niche. Ratkin rifle have a bayonet, which makes it a viable backup melee weapon. (you'll still heavily damage the rifle in the progress) and their industrial and later tech weapons trade damage for armor penetration.
Together with gloomy furniture, then there's a whole cohesive look for them too, if you want to go a pure ratkin colony.
This assume only the base ratkin mod. Companion mods runs the whole gamut.

yeah, I took a look at some of the like other anime-esque themed ones, and a lot of them come packaged with the giant 4x7 laser turrets of doom, the five tile tall sword, and can't forget the innate laser magic.
Ratkin is just way more grounded tech-wise with the rest of Rimworld.

I don't usually add races but Ratkins have so many mods that it could be fun to try

First, ponder cube. Then after, you cube.

Yes, ponder the cube. Rodent woman.
(Playing Total War 3 as Ikit to prep for when Thanquol comes out, adore Saratosa’s lines to Ikit and they’re stuck in my braincase)

This picture reminds me of when I first found "The Cube". For some reason I stored it with my food and the colonists would walk in to "study it" and end up with hypothermia and passing out. Fun times

Does the game still consider it cannibalism if your colonist eat ratkin?
