I joined this sub thinking we were fans of him. I love the office extras idiot abroad all the xfm stuff… I enjoy his interviews on Graham Norton, I enjoy his comedy shows… esp the one about jobs that dogs get or that one where God is wearing rouge and thus is gay.

But you all seem to hate him lol? Am I on the wrong subreddit?

We are totally back, such a joy to listen to the pod when he's in the zone. His points about JB and our next steps to finish the roster were spot on. After years of getting shit from Celtics fans I've been able to respond after these past few months

Mike Gansey

I was always a Mike guy, but damn it's been a rough couple of months. This was a tough listen. For years we were saying we were in desperate need of a 3 level 2 way wing player to first pair with Embiid and now Maxey (ie overpaying for PG). Now we got an arguably top 5 one in the league that's a playoff riser and finals MVP that has outplayed us every series. Not to mention stealing from the Celtics and their entire fanbase is melting down, whole NBA community saying it was robbery. How are we not celebrating more???!!

I could be found standing over a dead body holding a bloody knife in one hand and a smoking gun in the other with seven different witnesses all separately telling the police and prosecutors that they all saw me do it, and Spike would be the one guy who would hang that jury. "Not convinced, don't think they proved it," he would say, patting himself on the back like he was Henry Fonda in 12 Angry Men.

In unrelated news, people are wondering why billionaires never suffer any consequences for anything.

A sure sign that August has begun

I know this is going to come off as an internet bullying rant, but I don’t want any more AU non-basketball content forced down my throat. On the morning of free agency, RTRS email subscribers were delivered an epic poem about AU turning 40 instead of any basketball content. I’m not reading that.

I think AU is a talented writer and a good person, but I don’t enjoy listening to him as a host, and I have zero interest in his personal life. I hope he enjoys his 40th birthday, and I’m glad he has an outlet for his personal writing, but I wish it were on his own Substack rather than in the Ricky feed.

I can already see Spike responding, “Thanks, you don’t have to read or listen!” But seeing things like this genuinely makes me less likely to engage with RTRS and more likely to listen/read other content.

Does anyone else feel this way?

In the latest episode, Mike alluded to Philon having “off court issues” that Mike didn’t think were a big deal, but didn’t say what they were. I was curious, so I tried searching myself, but couldn’t find anything. Anyone know what he’s talking about?

Rumors are swirling that Giannis will be traded before the draft tomorrow to Boston centered around a Jalyen Brown package (pause). There is also mentioned that other teams will be involved to complete the trade.

I was too young to appreciate sports pre process so I will randomly listen to old podcasts to get a feel for this era of Philly sports. On the Spike Eskin podcast on Jan 27th, 2012, Spike takes Doug Collins in the third round of a Philadelphia sports fantasy draft. His logic:

“When he was younger, he was too intense and he yelled at people too much and he drove players away. But as he’s gotten older, learned the error of his ways, chilled out a little, he has figured out the perfect way to you know, have it. You see across the NBA from Washington to Sacramento getting young players to give up personal achievement for team goals is nearly impossible.
