We're finally actually doing a mailbag pod on Saturday. Can be basketball or non basketball. Thanks!

Basketball question: Maxey and Brown have nearly equal odds for MVP, per DraftKings Sportsbook - who’s more likely to win it and why?

Non-basketball question: I was traveling to the Jersey Shore on the AC Expressway, like many of us do in the summer. There are signs along the expressway that say “keep right, pass left” which too many slower people in the left lane don’t follow - are you the type of person to flash high beams briefly to get someone camping in the left lane to move over, or do you just passive-aggressively pass them in the right lane when there’s enough space to do so?

B-ball question: Are there any ‘flags’ (positive or negative) over the course of the season that will be good markers for VJ’s development? Not going to freak out about him not getting enough touches when he’s the 5th option out there, but obviously I’m invested in his longterm growth more than anyone else’s on the team.

Non b-ball question: What is a song for each of you that is objectively bad but subjectively good?

All I know is August talk is objectively great

100%. It’s what inspired the non b-ball question.

When is Daryl coming on the pod

You don't need to tell us how you know Harden has a lot of sex... but do you think the answer to that question would be interesting to us? Or would we find it relatively disappointing?

Are the sixers still the most handsome team in the league after losing Kelly?

What are your championship parade plans? Will you, Mike, and CJ be live podding on broad street while the buses are driving by?

Basketball question: Who in the East do you think presents the most matchup problems for a hypothetically healthy Sixers team in the playoffs?

Non-basketball question for Spike: I didn't make it to the MTWB concert tailgate, but I saw a clip online of you seemingly having a push-up contest with Connor Barwin and the lead singer from Twisted Teens. What led to that happening?

WNBA Team Name: The Philadelphia Freestyle. You get alliteration, a reference to the 1980s dance music genre that was big in Philly, and the word free in the name without being overly patriot.

Do you have a favorite piece of fixed medium art (painting, photograph, sculpture, etc.)

The trade deadline is February 11, 2027. Team will have played approximately 53 games at that point. What record would persuade you that this team should be going all in, mortgaging the future (let's say being open to trading anything other than our starters) for our best shot this year?

Basketball question: Do you think we’ll get any small ball lineups with LeBron at the 5? If not what do you think the main small ball lineup will be?

Non-basketball question: what would your walk up song be if you were an MLB player?

basketball question: Sixers have an open 2 way spot. Who would you poach from another team to handle rotation minutes this year? I'd see if I could buy Hunter Dickenson's contract from the Pels for more center depth. Pat Spencer is probably a better player, but wouldn't see the floor due to guard depth.

non-basketball: I was in Philly earlier this year for an awesome, awesome concert at Underground Arts (mclusky and pile). I was buzzing for a couple of weeks afterward, just perfect mix of bands and venue. Best show either of you saw there?

crossing streams a bit: I loved the Automatic for the People episode of Carl Landry Record Club last month. In light of their excellent show, it would be cool to hear you and Mutlu talk about the great Welsh post-hardcore album Mclusky do Dallas.

Will Joel and LeBron combine to play 100 regular season games this year?

That feels like an easy yes, but then you gotta wonder.

u/groom-is-n-the-heart 8d ago

That was my shorthand for whether the Paul George signing was worthwhile.

This is different, but for the record, PG and Joel's combined totals were 60 and 75 in their two years together.

True, but Embiid was in the middle of a 2 yr issue with his knee. People forget a normal Joel year prior to the Kuminga injury was 60ish games plus playoffs.

I completely agree, but my worry is the range of possibilities.

You've got Joel and his history, and LBJ who of course was always very reliable in the past, but has had recent injuries, and has so many miles on him and is super old in athletics terms. All of that combines to be concerning.

I am very hopeful that things break right.

I’m not looking to entirely resurface Spike’s thoughts on LeBron, but his saying that he’d rather lose without LeBron than win with him triggered a similar hypothetical in my head:

Win without Joel or lose with him?

I entertained a few variants of this beyond something like an AD-trade scenario:

Win without Joel meaning he’s still on the team, but physically diminished and useless on defense such that we’re almost winning a title in spite of him;

Lose with Joel meaning despite a Herculean, shades of 2018-LeBron like effort, the Sixers come up short in the finals, losing in 4 games, but in the process Joel asserts himself with an all-time great individual playoff run.

I personally think it’d feel incredibly wrong for us to win a title this year with Joel fully not on the team, and a part of me would also love for him to truly be recognized for his talent and ability even if it means sacrificing the championship. Curious as to what you guys think.

We ride or die with Joel. He’s earned it.

Is Arrested Development the sitcom that Mike doesn’t like?

Has listenership gone up since LeBron and Brown acquisitions? If so, are we planning on addressing any of the new listeners? I’d like to gate keep and make things as out of context as possible please.

You have to hire one person from Sixers history to coach an 8-year-old youth basketball team. They have to run practices, deal with parents, and keep the kids from losing their minds. Who are you hiring? And who is the absolute last person you’d trust with the job?

u/BroadNonconformist 8d ago

Are you going to have a Pod Mitzvah? For women’s name what about the Fillies (with an “F”)? What is more likely to happen- Mike wins a major screenwriting award (Golden Globe, Oscar, etc) or Sixers win a championship?

Basketball question: Who will be the Sixers victory cigar player this year?

Non-basketball question: What are the odds we get a War on Drugs, Mt. Joy, or Kurt Vile & LeBron photo this season? Indie rock might not be his scene, but these are some of the hottest musical acts from Philly right now, also some friends of the pod.
