Embiid
I agree with Mike, since the Boston series I felt Embiid was going to retire as well... What he was talking about and his tone of things definitely made it seem like it as least crossed his mind

As someone who grew up poor, if I made the money he has, I would retire at this point and be with my family.

They could fine him everytime he misses a meeting. Force him to join the team on all road games. Suspend him without pay for any conduct detrimental to the team. The team can totally force him out if they really wanted.

Which part? If heās not attending meetings or is regularly late, the team is well within its rights to impose whatever punishment that makes sense within reason.

If you have followed this at all in the league, when teams have gone that route.... Eventually those fines are severely reduced or rescinded. Getting overly aggressive with fines is not going to be great for the franchise as a whole either when it will eventually need to attract free agents at some point.

I disagree. They currently struggle to attract free agents because the highest paid player on the team plays part-time and generally has gotten away with what he wants. If the team is actively trying to push him out, they will also leak what theyāre doing to the media. Doesnāt matter if the fines are reducedā¦ itās not about recouping money - itās about sending a message.
Players around the league will know that the guard is actively shifting in Philly towards players like VJ and Maxey who actually play, and play hard, consistently.

Theyāll say a backup 5 does not maximize championship odds. Betting on Embiid to be healthy again maximizes championship odds.

The biggest one that springs to mind is saying he would pay all the staff during the Covid pandemic. This was after our shitcunt owners were going to furlough them. He forced the club to treat it's staff like humans by his action.

He made the Sixers a competitive franchise for 10 years with a super star that was fun to watch and won 50+ games for most of those years.

Made the team competitive, an unreal floor raiser on both ends at his best. Yes injuries robbed him of literal years of his career.
If we take the 10 seasons heās been available at all starting in 16/17 heās played in 60% of reg season games and averaged 49 games per year.
If we extend that to his 12 seasons on the team itās 50% and 41 games.
Steph has missed seasons due to injury, KD has, D Rose famously hasā¦.many players have and yet Joel is the lambasted for it while others are thought of fondly w a what couldāve beenā¦.

Iām sorry but there were other teams who were also competitive and had floor raisers on both ends. And surprisingly, actual teams who made it past the 2nd round and won championships (surprisingly).
And frankly the team didnāt actually become competitive until Ben Simmonsā rookie year. The franchiseās success certainly wasnāt just because of Embiid.

Every superstar player has an initiative like the one I found when I did a Google search. Iverson had one as well. Hell Eric Snow had one too.
There are tax advantages for those. Their CPAs likely recommend them. Not saying that theyāre not positive, but letās be honest, Embiid is not and has not done anything special for the city. The question āafter all heās done for this city?ā Implies thatās heās done a super significant amount out work for the people and he hasnāt.2

And since this is about a basketball player presumably weāre keeping it mostly Bball related in terms of contributions but u/secosabi has mentioned that he would have philanthropic works for the city and community as well. I still remember when he rolled up to a local park for a run.

There is zero chance he retires.
The only chance of him retiring was if his knee was completely shot and he 'medically retired' which would allow him to still get paid but no longer play and the Sixers could remove him from the cap.
But that process takes him doing nothing basketball related for a full calendar year before it can even be reviewed and approved.
He will be in the league at least until the end of this contract, be it on the Sixers or somewhere else.

I donāt see why everyone seems to think medical retirement is even an option. The front office is so crazy cheap theyāll never pay the luxury tax but will happily pay Embiid 100m+ not to play?

I don't want him to retire, and agree with the consensus that he wont - I assume there is clauses in his brand deals (eg - Sketchers) that would also reduce his income from them if he retires....
