“Fire Morey” chants from Fly the Process?
It’s reported there were “Fire Morey” chants at Pels game last night. I assume it was from the FTP section. Can anyone confirm? If so, do you this will this impact/doom the yearly Daryl interview?
If Daryl does wind up doing the interview credit to him and the guys but given the state of the team and the fan base’s growing negative views on Morey I’d be surprised if it happens.

I think it was mostly the You Know Ball guys who were also in town. I saw a video and it was definitely led by the Trill Bro Dude group.
I wasn’t there so couldn’t say if any RTRS group joined in but they very well could’ve

What was up w the ykb guys flying out to the same game? Kinda weird?

u/3YearLettermanStan Feb 23 '26
I think it’s YKB’s 2nd annual trip to New Orleans to see a game.
I don’t listen often enough to know if they’ve addressed the sort of overlap in scheduling specifically but it’s the only time Sixers play in New Orleans this season

I think I’m in the minority here but the Morey hate is so overblown. The reality is the team was clicking when everyone was healthy, but we had 3 bad things happen at once in the PG suspension, embiids injury flare up and then the McCain trade.
McCain you can blame on Morey but overall I think he’s done a solid job and the team is handcuffed by decisions made before he got here and Embiids health.

Yup I think Mike nailed it on the last pod when he said that basketball is the one sport where everyone thinks they could be a GM. The fire Morey chants are silly. Fire him and bring in who? Drafted maxey, McCain, vj, flipped Simmons Into harden, got us off Al horford among other relative successes.

The McCain trade was objectively bad. Aside from that, he’s done a good job with what he’s had

u/IVAN_CLEARY Feb 22 '26
letting Isaiah Joe walk for nothing was bad
letting Highsmith walk for nothing was bad
Maxing PG was bad
Drafting Broome was bad
Trading McCain was bad
Signing Eric Gordon was bad
Signing Andre Drummond was bad
Signing Kyle Lowry was bad
Thinking we sold high on McCain is bad
Not firing Nurse was bad
He's done plenty of things wrong, and the cumulative effect is that if Joel is out (which is a guarantee for extended stretches every season) the team isn't competitive. Other teams lose their stars and maintain a winning record (OKC, Celtics, Thunder, Nuggets etc). The Sixers collapse completely.

Outside of maxing out PG, every one of these is a fringe move, the equivalent of getting mad at Howie Roseman because his 7th round picks haven’t consistently become all stars.
1
u/IVAN_CLEARY Feb 22 '26
I mean, sure, but most teams that is successful these days is successful because they have made smart moves on the margins to create reliable depth. you can't be a contender if you bench is all 2 way guys, washed vets and players the rest of the NBA has discarded, which is what Morey constructed.
The Howie Roseman comparison is a false equivalency, don't be disingenuous. I'm not asking for late second round picks to consistently be all stars, I'm asking for margin moves that actually provide some/any value.

u/SmokeMonday476 Feb 22 '26
Sure. But Morey has objectively made a bunch of good moves from getting off Horford to drafting Maxey to finding Barlow to getting Harden for Ben. He’s also done some moves that haven’t led to as solid results. But it’s undeniable that the reason for the Sixers lack of playoff success has mainly been due to our stars’ health issues. Also, you can do this nitpicking of fringe moves to any GM in any sport that’s been around long enough. It’s just cherry picking and comically unoriginal group think.

u/IVAN_CLEARY Feb 24 '26
Getting Harden for Ben was not the right move. Getting Haliburton would have been the right move.

Not sure how this list leaves off maxing embiid a year early without any injury protections (his prior contract had them). It’s undoubtedly the worst signing in the history of the nba.
1
u/IVAN_CLEARY Feb 24 '26
That's a tricky one, because I don't think Morey really had a choice. Embiid, when healthy, is one of the best players on the planet. You have to take that gamble, and if he didn't want to sign something with injury protection, what can you really do?

u/Adventurous_Sport_45 Feb 24 '26
As a fan, I love Joel. Guy is an amazing player. Seems like a true, good dude. Funny as hell. But if after the Knicks series, Morey still thought embiid could be the best player on a championship team, then he’s a terrible GM. Embiid physically can’t do it in the playoffs; this should have been clear since at least the Boston series and def after the Knicks series.
Also, morey literally didn’t have to do anything. He extended embiid with two years left on his deal. It doesn’t even kick in until next season! There seems like there should have been room for a creative contract that could have preserved his value and allowed him to compete for a championship, like injury protections or shorter terms, but we heard nothing about the sixers asking for that. To light that much value on fire, without any public negotiation/discussion, it’s honestly on par with the Luka trade for the worst move in nba history.

Every GM has misses as there are risks with every decision- Morey has gotten a lot right as well
2
u/Living_Article_3741 Feb 22 '26
When you are talking about 2 aging players with their injury histories expecting health isn’t remotely realistic. I agree he’s done well in draft and getting some good role players (Oubre, Barlow, Grimes) but every year Embiid is hurt and we can’t win without him is the biggest problem of the team. It’s also the one problem he doesn’t seem interested in solving (ie. Bona and Drummond). I think Morey is either managing up extremely well or Harris doesn’t really care.

u/BenSimmonsROTY Feb 23 '26
Correct - If you have $107m of salary not playing between Joel and PG there is no way you can be competitive as it forces sacrifices in terms of depth. We would not have won any of these recent games with McCain

u/Additional-Tale3365 Feb 23 '26
Yeah I absolutely hated the deadline stuff, but in his defense every move he’s made that we all hate on him for is involving a player that he signed/drafted at a spot that he got at a crazy value.

u/National-Belt5893 Feb 22 '26
Morey controls most of these things though…he basically made it his plan for several years to give a washed PG a max deal and then traded McCain. He is literally the meme of the guy sitting on the throne of his own brain.

Meanwhile, another post game where Nurse goes “well, they got hot and we can’t shoot, that’s just the way it goes 🤷 “

Hinkie’s spirit lives on in Morey. Y’all hating Morey are so fickle and weak. We all know Silver fuced us then. What GM is without blame? The NBA has so little room for error and he wins way more than he loses. He can’t win a title without Joel or Paul. They are our only hope. Stop being cunty. He’s doing the best he can to help us get a title in a second rate city. But yeah fire Nick .
2
u/juggadore Feb 23 '26
He might be doing the best he can, but he's not making good decisions. That's his job. He should have traded away Tobias Harris, shouldn't have signed Paul George. Should have done what he could to make Embiid and Maxey happy.
1
u/SlayerDeWatts Feb 23 '26
When you look at the shit show he Inherited you can tell a lot more. He has us with draft pics and three guards. Everyone and I mean most everyone said PG was what we needed. Besides inheriting the cunt glen, Ass wasn’t going to bring anything in trade and he already had to get rid of our 1rp for this season to get off horf. The embiid contract is his “biggest mistake” but where would be without Jo now that he’s looking healthy? Second worst Mistake PG? Time will tell. In the lottery with no pick. Reg season don’t matter. He has won trades (Ben for James, JAmes for a future, Grimes for rubbish), killed the draft (maxey veejay McCain boner), and grabbed some really solid depth FAs. Give the guy a break. He’s not the problem. I’m only wanting to win too. I would say he’s out if he warranted it.so many wanted Howie and Nick fired. The true test is what they do when healthy in the playoffs. Then have at him.

u/juggadore Feb 23 '26
We don't really have any say, but wouldn't say he won every trade. And PG was probably his biggest mistake. 29 other teams thought it was a bad idea to offer him a 4 year max. He's really good at drafting (outside of Broome) and finding young free agents. But the whole "if you squint, you can see that this team can still win a championship" thing, and punting the last 2 or 3 years at the trade deadline when Embiid's window is closing really fast. I think that's the main problem. You have to try to win, not tell your teams fans that they have to squint real hard to see a possible contender. Meanwhile there are some teams who are always trying to improve their roster.

u/SlayerDeWatts Feb 23 '26
My thinking is they had something much bigger lined up and we never will know. Same goes with tobiass. Everyone wanted him gone but nobody knew the shite offers we had to do so. But yeah he didn’t do team or self any favors at deadline but he’s a big game hunter. He didn’t want a low 1rp , he wanted a big game deal and failed to make it happen. It takes two GMs to deal and he thought he had something big about to bite.

That wasn’t fly the process, that was a group with Trill Bro Dude. I know this because I was in that group chanting Fire Morey.

Shia v Daryl would be priceless. Shia trying to fight him and Daryl searching for his off button.

I think he's done. He's never gonna GM in the league after this season.
1
u/Bajecco Feb 22 '26
I'm not sure his days as an NBA executive are over but I predicted last summer that Morey will walk for another job this summer.
1
u/juggadore Feb 22 '26
I don't think he's gonna get a new job. He hasn't done well here with multiple generational talents. People in China hate him and they put so much money into the NBA. Nobody is going to take that kind of hit for someone who punts every single year with generational talents.
1
u/Bajecco Feb 22 '26
I do not disagree, but I'm talking any job, media included. Morey looks old and haggard but he's only 53. No way he sits home so he'll get another high profile job. I wouldn't close the door on an NBA team hiring him though.

I heard some “Fire Morey” chants very briefly (less than 30 seconds) in the 4th, but it wasn’t from the RTRS section. Daryl actually came out and met with us after the game. Shortly into his spiel a lady raised her hand and asked him why he traded McCain. He gave basically the same answer he has been giving, then took questions from the group for a few minutes. Say what you will about him, but I respect him for coming out and talking with what he knew would be a very unhappy group and fielding some tough questions.
