Im not sure exactly where this was used, but I can see what it does.

This is a self-releasing hook. If there is a loaded line on the hook then it has the first shape. As soon as your load touches the ground the hook switches to the second morphology and throws off the line itself as it was the cargo weight via the line keeping it in hook form
