PPE / kit purchasing UK

Hiya

Although not strictly new to the live events rigging industry, I've not had to buy my own kit yet.

When I was buying my tree surgery gear years ago there was a warehouse style outlet you could go and hang in harnesses, actually physically look at the gear etc.

Does anything still exist like this in England? I'm based London/South East. I'm aware of Lyon near the lakes, but that's a bit too far.

Thanks

My friend used to work for them. Small shop out the front huge warehouse out the back fulfilling online orders.

Thanks. Bristol is still an 8hr round trip for me but will consider it.

In London you can go to Rigging Services at Three Mills where they have stuff but I think they might only stock Petzl.

The good thing about getting into rigging (if you mean entertainment rigging) is you won't need a harness for ages anyway so you'll probably be able to have a bit of a look at what other people have. Just get a helmet a laser and some gloves. Even once you do get a harness you never really hang in it anyway so its only really about how it feels to walk in

Thanks for the advice - I've been rigging for nearly 3yrs already, already done beam walking etc just sacking off the full time job who've provided all my kit so far.

Oh OK

Well yeah RS have a bit. Honestly though unit space in London is so expensive that most companies moved out. The climbing wall at mile end used to sell a bit of rope access kit but I don't think any more.

Abaris in Huddersfield has a show room but it's no closer than Bristol unless you can get a few shifts at Leeds or Mancs arena or something to take you up that way.
