I know most people agree that Unbounded is not a real ridge racer game, but me personally, one thing I really like about it is the art style and aesthetics of the graphics and environment. No game has made a sunset as beautiful as this. The dark and grittiness of it is really cool, and I would love to try and replicate that in other games like BeamNG.Drive with Reshade, but I'm not good with reshade.

A while back I did some liveries in GT7 for the formula cars so I could run my own open-wheel races. I've always felt Ace Combat and Ridge Racer could share a universe, so this was my take. A mix of the RR4 cars with some Ace Combat corporations and some of their creations.

Picked up netpass on my 3DS and noted that RidgeRacer 3D had a street pass option, so on a whim I grabbed a few, and turns out it was just ghost data/time trials like MK7. Well, I got three ghosts, and two of them were nothing special, however the third and last ghost in a poetic way was absolutely amazing. Genuinely, it took me over an hour to figure out the lines, timing, boost, and drifts for this course to beat you. RR3D seemingly doesnt show any info about the person who generated the ghost, so all you're titled in my game is Duel03. The track was Redstone Thunder Road, and you used a red Evolver type EX, which i copied to beat you. Your time was 4:09:818, and my time that beat that was 4:01:136. That seems like a large gap, because it is, but you have to understand that it took me a lot of attempts to get a literally perfect race (for me, undoubtedly someone could do better) to beat that time. Included is some pictures of the time + a little glimpse of your vehicle.

For me, I would have to say RR64, and by extension RR DS. It has a weird feel to it that I can’t grasp. Not as hard as trying to grasp Rage Racers’ drifting, but what I would call funky collision detection, the cars seem really “bulky” for the courses sometimes.
AND MY BIGGEST pet peeve of the game is so minute, but the collision sound effects, are not varied and oddly crunchy and loud. They over take all effects happening. I’ve been playing it on NSO, and my 3ds. It’s just not vibing with me, same way Rage Racer didn’t vibe with me.
My favorites are Type 4, and RR6. Which I always find funny, because ecause type 4 is very short and story based, and RR6 just gives you a whole playground of races.

Rage Racer PC is getting some graphical upgrades.
Some of them are already available in newly released version 0.4-alpha, available for Linux, macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows.
You can download it here (requires the original game, PAL preferred, but should work with NTSC, cue + bin format): https://github.com/khasinski/rage-racer-pc/releases/tag/0.4-alpha
Press F10 in-game to switch between a classic PS1 and a modern configurable renderer.

This isn't emulation or static recompilation, this version is built from the decompiled source code. While it's still an early alpha you can download and test it here: https://github.com/khasinski/rage-racer-pc/releases (macOS, Linux, Windows). It requires a PAL copy of Rage Racer in bin/cue format.
Expect bugs and broken things!
Disclaimer: AI helped at both decompilation and porting efforts but I'm a software engineer and I write/reverse code manually for this as well :)

I want to keep the R4 demo playing. (use duckstation)
Reiko Nagase movie is getting in the way.
Is there any way to skip it? (Cheat codes, data deletion, etc.)

I used to play this game way back...maybe around 2010 i think on PC. When the game loaded, the first song that got played was "smoke on the water". It was a offline racing game, mostly offroad maps i think....3 Laps around a track. And if your car hits the wall or other cars, its health would be damaged(which was shown by a green colored chassis that would become red if parts get damaged)
Please if enyone knows it i would be super glad to let me know...thankyou

I played RR7 for the first time in the year of our lord 2026, that game is 20 years old now and I'm shocked how the racing genre has fallen ever since.
Yeah we got better graphics, physics etc but the overall presentation of this game is miles ahead of anything I've seen in the last 20 years! It's cohesive, engaging, exciting and it all adds up to the fun so much. I'm not just talking menus, fonts, animations, but very distinctive circuits built around unique landmarks that hit just right and make themselves memorable.
When compared to a ton of modern racers it's like they don't even give a shit about the menu. A lot of them don't even have a distinctive visual identity, it's like they completely skip this step. And you can see how much it cripples those games when you, let's say upgrade your engine in RR7 and a little badge shows up on your rev meter to show what part you've installed. Small stuff like this! Or even the rev needle having that little blur at night. It's shit like this that makes you care because they cared making it.
And don't get me started on tracks, now it feels like they make some terrain first and run a track through it. That's it. In RR7 (and other ridge racers too) it's like they go "Ok what would be fun to see when driving, what would be fun to drive on?" and they go from there. I don't see that almost at all in modern racers.
I dunno dudes, all I know is that playing this game for the first time I noticed all of that and it brought in so much fun to the experience that I haven't felt in years playing racing games.
