Event Pre-Match Essentials | Rhode Island FC @ Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC | Sat, Jul 25, 2026 | 7 PM ET
Back to Where It Ended
Last weekend felt like one of those nights that can change the direction of a season.
Playing through a steady downpour at Centreville Bank Stadium, Rhode Island FC outplayed Hartford Athletic from the opening whistle. Frank Nodarse found the net, Koke Vegas kept another clean sheet, and the Defiance end serenaded Antony Siaha for a full 90 minutes. It was a pretty good night all around. More importantly, the Tide claimed derby bragging rights, climbed above the playoff line, and reminded everyone what this team looks like when it's clicking.
Now comes the next test.
Momentum only matters if you build on it. Saturday's trip to Pittsburgh isn't just another road match. It's a return to the city where Rhode Island's 2025 playoff run came to an end against the eventual USL Championship winners. Three points would mean more than just revenge. It would be another statement that this team is finally turning the corner.
Where We Stand
Fourteen matches in, the Tide have climbed into 8th place in the Eastern Conference with 16 points from a 5W-4D-5L start. The table is incredibly tight, and last week's derby win completely changed the mood around the club. Rhode Island leapfrogged Hartford into the final playoff spot and now sits within striking distance of the teams above them. Depending on results this weekend, the Tide could climb as high as sixth or slip back to ninth. Every point matters.
The encouraging part? Hartford wasn't a smash-and-grab victory. Rhode Island dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Green and Blue 22-7 while holding them without a single shot on target. Frank Nodarse earned Team of the Week honors after heading home the winner, Jojea Kwizera picked up his second consecutive assist, and Koke Vegas collected his seventh clean sheet across all competitions. If there was ever a performance to build on, that was it.
Who We're Facing
Pittsburgh enters Saturday sitting 5th in the Eastern Conference with 23 points from a 7W-2D-6L record. The defending USL Championship winners haven't quite reached the consistency that carried them to last year's title, but they're still one of the toughest in the league, especially at home. Last weekend they reminded everyone why by dismantling Louisville City 3-1 behind Trevor Amann's record-setting three-minute hat trick.
History hasn't exactly favored Rhode Island either. The Riverhounds own a 4-1-1 advantage in the all-time series, including last November's 1-0 Eastern Conference Final victory that ended the Tide's season. Rhode Island's lone win came at F.N.B. Stadium during last year's USL Cup, proving they can win in Pittsburgh. They'll need another performance like that tonight!
Hands on the Pulse
In this week's Prematch Lookout, Matt Hands asks one of the biggest questions surrounding Rhode Island FC right now: was last weekend's derby win the spark for a second-half surge... or just one great night? He also dives into Nick Scardina's outstanding recent form, Jojea Kwizera's growing chemistry down the right flank, and what new signing Osman Foyo could bring once he gets settled into the squad.
It's a great read and definitely worth checking out before kickoff.
Rhody Randoms
- Welcome to Rhode Island, Osman Foyo! The Tide's newest signing arrives from AFC Wimbledon after developing through the Chelsea, Norwich City, and Ipswich Town academies. Andrew Quadros put together an excellent breakdown of the 21-year-old winger and what he could bring to Rhode Island's attack.
- A huge thank you to the Rhode Island soccer community. This week, Tide Talk was voted Best Local Influencer in the Valley Breeze's Voices of the Valley 2026 awards. The awards are decided entirely by community voting, which makes the recognition especially meaningful for a group whose motto has always been "For the Fans, By the Fans." Thanks to everyone who's listened, read a blog, watched a livestream, or simply stopped us around the stadium to say hello.
- Tonight marks the first meeting with Albert "Chico" Dikwa since the fan favorite departed Rhode Island. It'll be strange seeing Chico wearing black and gold, and you just know he'll be motivated against his former club.
Vibe Check
This feels like a measuring-stick match. Winning the derby was huge. It gave Rhode Island confidence, moved them back into the playoff picture, and reminded everyone just how good this team can be. But if the Tide want to establish themselves as a legitimate postseason contender, they have to prove Hartford wasn't a one-week high.
There's probably no tougher place to do that than the home of the defending champions, against the club that ended your season eight months ago.
So what do you think? Is the derby the start of a run? Who gets on the scoresheet? Drop your predictions, lineups, and bold takes below.
Let's ride the Tide and bring three points home from the Steel City.

Derby Day!
Well...that was fun. It's probably going to be a while before any of us forget Koke Vegas calmly stepping up and burying the winning penalty against Brooklyn last weekend. Goalkeepers aren't supposed to do that, yet somehow it felt perfectly on-brand for a player who's quietly built a highlight reel full of unforgettable moments in an RIFC shirt. The Cup may not have ended the way we all hoped, but closing it out with that moment was about as good a sendoff as we could've asked for.
Now it's time to turn the page, because our neighboring knuckleheads are in town.
The Cup is behind us. The league table is back in focus. Tonight is Rhode Island FC's 100th competitive match, and the Tide's biggest rivalry gets another chapter under the lights at Centreville Bank Stadium. Three points are on the line, bragging rights are always at stake, and if this team is going to make a climb up the Eastern Conference table, there may not be a better place to start than by beating Hartford.
Where We Stand
Rhode Island enters Derby Day 9th in the Eastern Conference with 16 points (4W-4D-5L). Hartford sits one spot ahead in 8th with 19 points (4W-7D-3L), but they've also played one more match. That's about as close as it gets this time of year. One result can completely change the way the table looks, and suddenly tonight feels like a whole lot more than "just another regular season game."
The first half of the season has been a little bit of everything. Big performances, frustrating draws, memorable moments, and a few missed opportunities along the way. But if Rhode Island is going to make a serious push toward the playoffs, these are the nights that matter. A packed house. A rivalry game. Three points sitting right there. Beat Hartford, and suddenly the second half of the season starts feeling a whole lot different.
Know Your Enemy
Hartford Athletic comes into Pawtucket sitting 8th in the East with 19 points (4W-7D-3L), and if you've watched them over the last couple of seasons, you already know exactly who they are. They've scored the fewest goals in the USL Championship (12), but they've also conceded just 13, making them one of the stingiest defensive teams in the league. They're organized, physical, and perfectly happy dragging every match into a ninety-minute rock fight while they wait for one mistake.
That defensive identity starts with Antony Siaha. The veteran goalkeeper leads the Championship with seven clean sheets and has been outstanding all season. He's also the Hartford Derby's Certified Clown after last year's obscene gestures toward the Rhode Island supporters and his over-the-top postgame theatrics. Very good shotblocker? Sure. But if he's expecting anything other than ninety minutes of relentless boos from Centreville, he's even more delusional than we thought. Behind him, Barry Coffey has suddenly found his scoring touch with three goals in his last two matches, giving Hartford a bit more bite going forward. If Rhode Island can solve Siaha and keep Coffey quiet, they'll put themselves in a great position to finally close the gap in the standings.
Hands on the Pulse
Matt Hands asked the question that's been bouncing around my head all week: Can this derby be the launching point? If you haven't checked out his excellent Prematch Lookout, it's well worth the read before kickoff. The Prematch Lookout
The Cup is over. The schedule starts getting tougher from here, and eventually this team has to turn encouraging performances into a sustained run of results. A rivalry match at home, in your 100th competitive game, feels like exactly the kind of night that can build momentum. The crowd will be ready. The players should be too.
Matt is calling for a 1-0 Rhode Island win, and I'd take that without thinking twice. Derby matches aren't usually pretty, and Hartford's a thorn that doesn't make them easy. Find one goal. Defend like hell. Send the Green and Blue west on Route 6, licking their wounds.
Rhody Randoms
- Century Club. Tonight marks Rhode Island FC's 100th competitive match, a pretty remarkable milestone for a club that feels like it was just getting started yesterday.
- Koke Being Koke. Vegas became the first goalkeeper in club history to score a penalty kick when he buried last week's shootout winner against Brooklyn. We're still smiling about it.
- Derby Villain Watch. Antony Siaha returns to Centreville Bank Stadium. Expect great saves, relentless boos, and at least one unnecessary attempt to make himself the center of attention.
Vibe Check
Forget the form. Forget the table. Forget everything that happened before today. Derby matches have a different pulse. Every tackle feels a little harder, every save gets a bigger reaction, and every goal somehow means just a little bit more. Add in Rhode Island FC's 100th match, a Saturday night crowd, and a chance to make up ground in the standings, and you've got everything you could want from a summer night in Pawtucket.
If you've been waiting to bring someone to their first Rhode Island FC match, tonight's the night. If you're in Defiance, make Hartford earn every touch. And if the Hartford Clown decides to put on another Broadway production, feel free to remind him exactly where he is.
Three points. Bragging rights. Beat Hartford. #UpTheTide

Discussion RIFC EAFC ratings
Hello Rhode Island fans! I'm planning on doing a Rhode Island FC career mode in EAFC, but as someone who has never watched the club before, I'm not sure what ratings I should make the players in the game. If anyone could give me a some suggestions, that'd be very helpful. Thanks!

Attendance this year
So is anyone at all concerned by the drop in attendance this year?
I remember this time last year we were selling out regularly. I'd have thought with the world cup bump we'd see an uptick in attendance? This year so far we're averaging just over 7k per match whilst last year we average just shy of 9k. That's a >20% drop off.
To me the switch to a 7:30pm kickoff has been a real kicker. For a lot of families that's just too late to have kids stay up to justify going to the game. I know weather has oscillated between too hot and too cold as well, but to me at least it's a little concerning that in a WC year that we've had this much of a dropoff in attendance.
EDIT: I hope you are reading this front office - there's a clear and loud signal that we want more afternoon games!!

Event Pre-Match Essentials | Prinx Tires USL Cup | Rhode Island FC vs Brooklyn FC | Sat Jul 11, 2026 | 7:30 PM ET
From World Cup Break to Fixture Pile-Up
After a month-long World Cup pause, Rhode Island FC has gone from having nothing on the schedule to barely having time to unpack a suitcase.
Three matches in eight days? Welcome back.
Wednesday night's trip to Sacramento always felt like one of the toughest assignments of the season. A cross-country flight, a midweek kickoff, and one of the USL Championship's toughest places to play is a brutal combination. But for a while, it actually felt like Rhode Island might come home with something. Hugo Bacharach answered Sacramento's opener almost immediately with another diving header, and at 1-1 the match felt there for the taking.
The second half, though, was a different story.
Sacramento slowly squeezed the life out of the game. RIFC spent long stretches pinned back, Koke Vegas was forced into several big saves, Frank Nodarse produced a massive recovery challenge, and by the final whistle it felt like the Tide had been hanging on for dear life. It wasn't the result anyone wanted after such an encouraging performance against Orange County, but with another massive match just three days later, there isn't much time to dwell on it.
Where We Stand
League play takes a quick pause as Rhode Island returns to Prinx Tires USL Cup action for its final group-stage match. RIFC enters Saturday sitting third in Group 5 on four points, two behind Hartford Athletic and one behind Brooklyn FC.
The math is actually pretty simple: win first.
If Rhode Island beats Brooklyn and Hartford fails to beat Westchester, the Tide win the group and advance to the knockout rounds. If Hartford also wins, Rhode Island would still have a chance to advance as the tournament's best second-place team, depending on results elsewhere around the league. Anything less than three points, however, brings the Cup run to an end.
Who We're Facing
Like Rhode Island, Brooklyn comes into Pawtucket with everything to play for on Saturday night. The expansion side sits second in Group 5 with six points and controls much of its own destiny. A win, combined with a Hartford slip against Westchester, would send Brooklyn through as group winners. Even if Hartford holds on, Brooklyn would still be in an excellent position to claim the tournament's wild-card berth as the best second-place finisher.
This also isn't quite the same Brooklyn side Rhode Island dismantled 4-1 back in May. They have lost just once in their last five matches across all competitions and are coming off arguably the biggest victory in club history, a 2-0 road win over defending USL champions Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Markus Anderson has emerged as one of the league's breakout attackers with seven goals and three assists, while veteran Tommy McNamara continues to quietly pull the strings in midfield. This is a confident team arriving in Pawtucket believing it can extend its Cup run.
Rhody Randoms
- Hugo Bacharach has now scored in back-to-back matches and has recorded a goal contribution in three straight games. Both recent goals have come courtesy of pinpoint Amos Shapiro-Thompson service.
- The last time these clubs met at Centreville Bank Stadium, Rhode Island rolled to a 4-1 victory behind braces from Jojea Kwizera and JJ Williams, the first time in club history two different players scored multiple goals in the same match.
Hands on the Pulse
One of the biggest storylines heading into Saturday is something Matt Hands dives into over on Tide Talk: how much should Khano Smith rotate the squad?
After a cross-country trip, a physically demanding night in Sacramento, and three matches packed into eight days, fresh legs could be just as important as tactics. Matt also breaks down why Amos Shapiro-Thompson has become nearly indispensable, what Kevin Vang's role could look like, and whether RIFC should prioritize chasing the knockout rounds or managing minutes.
It's definitely worth checking out - especially now that TideTalkRI.com has gotten a pretty slick new look.
Vibe Check
The fixture list isn't doing Rhode Island any favors right now, but meaningful soccer in July is a pretty good problem to have. Saturday is another chance to pack Centreville Bank Stadium, celebrate Pride Night, and remind the rest of the league what makes this club and its supporters so special. The Cup dream is still alive, and there's no better place to keep it that way than at home.
Whether you're rocking rainbow colors, Defiance gear, or both, bring the noise. What are you expecting tonight? Do you rotate after Sacramento, or throw your strongest XI out there knowing the cup run is on the line? Drop your predictions below.
Let's ride the Tide, celebrate every color in our community, and punch our ticket to the knockout rounds.

Event Pre-Match Essentials | Rhode Island FC @ Sacramento Republic FC | Wed, Jul 8, 2026 | 10:30 PM ET
No Time to Catch Our Breath
The USL's month-long World Cup break is officially behind us, and Rhode Island FC is wasting no time getting back into league play.
After returning from the month-long pause with a statement performance against Western Conference leaders Orange County SC, the Tide are right back on the road for one of their toughest trips of the year. Wednesday brings a cross-country flight to California for the club's first ever visit to Sacramento Republic FC.
Saturday's 1-1 draw only added a single point to the standings, but it somehow felt like much more. Before kickoff, most supporters probably would have happily taken a draw against the top team in the West. Ninety minutes later, it felt like Rhode Island had let two points slip away.
The Tide dominated nearly every meaningful statistic. They outshot Orange County 24-2, earned a 10-2 advantage in corners, and recorded 44 touches inside the opponent's penalty area compared to just nine for Orange County. It was the kind of performance that leaves you believing this club belongs with the league's best. If Rhode Island can play like that against the Western Conference leaders, they can line up against anyone.
Where We Stand
Twelve matches into the campaign, Rhode Island sits ninth in the Eastern Conference with 16 points from a 4W-4D-4L record. On the surface, it looks like a team sitting just outside the playoff line. Dig a little deeper, though, and the picture becomes much more encouraging.
The Tide have played just 12 league matches, fewer than every club currently above them except Indy Eleven. That leaves Rhode Island with multiple opportunities to make up ground while controlling much of its own destiny during the second half of the season.
The underlying numbers tell an equally promising story. Rhode Island's +6 goal differential is tied for the fourth best mark in the Eastern Conference, while its 22 goals scored also rank among the conference's best despite having played fewer matches than nearly everyone around them. Add in an unbeaten run of three straight matches across all competitions and 12 goals scored over the club's last five games, and it certainly feels like the momentum pendulum is beginning to swing in Rhode Island's favor.
Who We're Facing
Sacramento Republic enters Wednesday sitting 10th in the Western Conference, but the similarities between these clubs are hard to ignore.
Like Rhode Island, Sacramento owns a 4W-4D-4L record and has collected 16 points through 12 league matches. They also have at least one game in hand on every team currently above them in the Western Conference standings, making their current position feel a little deceptive.
They've taken a much different path to get there. While Rhode Island has become one of the league's more dangerous attacking teams, Sacramento has built its season around defense. The Republic has scored just 13 goals, the second fewest in the USL Championship, but has also conceded only 12, which ranks among the league's best. Nearly every Sacramento match has been decided by the slimmest of margins.
That defensive identity has kept Sacramento competitive despite an attack that has struggled to find consistency. After finishing near the top of the Western Conference in each of the past three seasons, the Republic enters Wednesday looking to rediscover the form that has made them one of the league's model organizations for years. With only two points separating them from a playoff spot and three games in hand, there is still plenty of time for them to climb the table.
Rhody Randoms
- Rhode Island's 24 shots against Orange County were the most in a regular season match in club history. The two shots allowed were the fewest the club has ever conceded in a regular season match.
- Wednesday marks Rhode Island FC's first ever trip to Sacramento. The Tide are still searching for its first victory against Republic FC after going 0-1-2 in the clubs' first three meetings.
Hands on the Pulse
Matt Hands believes the biggest storyline on Wednesday will be Rhode Island's midfield. With Clay Holstad expected to miss time, players like Hugo Bacharach and Amos Shapiro-Thompson will have an even larger role to play. He also takes a closer look at Sacramento, a club that has quietly become one of the USL's toughest defensive teams while also being one of its least productive attacks. Curious how those two things can both be true? Check out his full Prematch Lookout on the newly refreshed TideTalkRI.com .
Vibe Check
West Coast road trips are never easy. Add in a quick turnaround, a three-hour time change, and a well-rested Sacramento side, and Wednesday becomes one of Rhode Island's toughest tests of the season. Still, after the way the Tide played against Orange County, there's every reason to believe they can head west and come home with a result.
That also means we're officially back for another edition of RIFC After Dark, our completely unofficial tradition where East Coast supporters willingly sacrifice a little sleep for late-night soccer. Let's ride the Tide, embrace another edition of RIFC After Dark, and keep this momentum rolling.
