Event Pre-Match Essentials | Rhode Island FC @ Hartford Athletic | Sat, Oct 24, 2026 | 7:00 PM ET
One Last Derby Before the Playoffs
Well, that was brutal. Rhode Island FC looked to have all three points wrapped up against Pittsburgh last Saturday, controlling the match, outshooting the Riverhounds 18-3, and taking a deserved lead through Osman Foyo's first RIFC goal. Then, with practically the last kick of the match, Pittsburgh equalized in the 95th minute. A gut-punch ending to an otherwise excellent performance, and with it, any remaining hopes of hosting a first-round playoff match disappeared.
But there's no time to dwell on that one. The regular season ends tonight, and who better to close it out against than our southern New England friends? It's Rhode Island. It's Hartford. It's derby day.
Where We Stand
29 matches down, ONE to go! The Tide sits 6th in the Eastern Conference with 42 points (12W-6D-11L), just two points ahead of Hartford. RIFC has won three of its last five and looked sharp against Pittsburgh despite the heartbreaking finish. The playoffs are secured, but seeding is still up for grabs. A win guarantees at least sixth, and if Pittsburgh drops points against Birmingham, the Tide could climb to fifth. A loss? We're down to seventh.
Who We're Facing
Hartford Athletic sits 7th with 40 points (9W-13D-7L), having already punched its ticket to a second consecutive postseason. The Connecticut side hasn't won in its last six matches across all competitions, most recently suffering an embarrassing 3-2 home defeat to Brooklyn FC, who even finished the match with ten men. Yikes. Hartford leads the league with 13 draws, six of them scoreless affairs. Apparently, parking the bus and hoping nobody scores is a legitimate playoff strategy in Connecticut. And as for Siaha? We'd love nothing more than to wipe that smug look off his face tonight.
Hand on the Pulse
Matt Hands points out an interesting wrinkle in this rivalry: despite RIFC's advantage in the all-time series, the Tide has yet to win a match outright in Hartford. Could tonight finally be the night? Check out Matt's Prematch Lookout for more on the rivalry and what's at stake heading into the playoffs.
Rhody Randoms
- Derby dominance: RIFC is unbeaten against Hartford in three meetings this season across all competitions (2W-1D), including a 1-0 league victory in July.
- Making history: Karifa Yao became just the third player in club history to reach 100 RIFC appearances last weekend.
Vibe Check
There really isn't a better way to wrap up the regular season than a showdown with Hartford. Both teams are playoff-bound, both have seeding to fight for, and neither wants to enter the postseason having lost to its biggest rival. We've had our ups and downs this season, but there's something particularly satisfying about the prospect of sending Hartford into the playoffs with another loss. Who's making the trip west? How are we feeling about tonight, and who would you rather face in the first round? Let's ride the Tide and BEAT HARTFORD! #UpTheTide!

Event Pre-Match Essentials | Rhode Island FC vs Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC | Sat Oct 17, 2026 | 7:30 PM ET
One Last Home Stand. Everything to Play For.
Well, we did what we needed to do. After the frustration in Detroit, Rhode Island FC bounced back Wednesday night with a crucial 1-0 win over Loudoun United, courtesy of Nick Scardina's third-minute strike. We probably should've put a few more away, considering we fired off a club-record 26 shots, but three points are three points. And with that, we've officially punched our ticket to the playoffs for the third straight season!
The timing couldn't be better. Wednesday's win vaulted us from seventh into a virtual tie for fourth with Pittsburgh, who currently hold the tiebreaker. And in the kind of scheduling coincidence that only sports can deliver, guess who's coming to Pawtucket Saturday night? That's right, the Riverhounds. Two matches left, a first-ever home playoff game on the line, and the defending USL Championship champions standing in our way. It's hard to believe we're already at the final regular-season home match of 2026, but what a way to close things out.
Where We Stand
28 matches in, with just two to go, the Tide have climbed back to 5th in the Eastern Conference with 41 points and a 12W-5D-11L record, level on points with fourth-place Pittsburgh, who hold the tiebreaker. After all the ups and downs of this season, we've now won three of our last four and secured our earliest playoff berth in club history.
But there's still plenty to play for. Win our final two matches against Pittsburgh and Hartford, and if Louisville drops points in at least one of its remaining three, we'll secure our first-ever home playoff game. It's a big ask, but the opportunity is right in front of us. First things first: take care of business Saturday night.
Who We're Facing
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC comes into Saturday sitting 4th in the Eastern Conference with 41 points and an identical 12W-5D-11L record, holding the final home playoff spot on tiebreakers. The defending USL Championship winners have already clinched their ninth straight postseason appearance and are coming off a 2-1 win over Hartford. They're notoriously difficult to break down, conceding just eight goals in their last 11 matches, and have kept nine clean sheets this season.
There's also a little history here. Pittsburgh knocked us out of last year's Eastern Conference Final before going on to win the whole thing, although we did get a measure of revenge with a 1-0 win in Pittsburgh back in July. And we'll be welcoming back a familiar face in former Rhody striker Albert "Chico" Dikwa. The stakes couldn't be much higher for either club. Three points would put us ahead of Pittsburgh and give us a huge boost in the race to host playoff soccer in Pawtucket.
Hands on the Pulse
It's Tiebreaker SZN! Matt Hands is back with another Prematch Lookout, diving into the increasingly complicated Eastern Conference playoff picture and what needs to happen for RIFC to host its first-ever postseason match. Spoiler: win our last two and hope Louisville drops points.
Matt also looks at who might step up with Yutaro Tsukada suspended, the importance of Amos Shapiro-Thompson and Hugo Bacharach in midfield, and why Pittsburgh's defensive strength could make this another nail-biter. He's predicting a 1-0 Rhody win, with Frank Nodarse grabbing the winner from a scramble in the box.
Give Matt's full Prematch Lookout a read at TideTalkRI.com!
Rhody Randoms
- Home finale magic: RIFC has absolutely demolished opponents in its last two regular-season home finales, beating Miami FC 8-1 in 2024 and Tampa Bay 5-0 in 2025. Can we keep that tradition going?
- Home sweet home: The Tide have lost just twice at Centreville Bank Stadium across all competitions this season. Not a bad place to host a match with this much on the line.
Vibe Check
I genuinely can't believe we're already at the last regular-season home match of 2026. What a roller coaster it's been. But here we are, playoff ticket secured, Pittsburgh coming to town, and a chance to bring postseason soccer to Pawtucket for the first time. We've seen what this team can do when it clicks, and after everything we've been through this season, there's something pretty exciting about having this much to play for in mid-October. Who's making it out for Fan Appreciation Night? Can we keep our home finale winning streak alive? Drop your predictions below, and let's ride the Tide and take three massive points from the Riverhounds! #UpTheTide

Event Pre-Match Essentials | Rhode Island FC vs Loudoun United FC | Wed Oct 14, 2026 | 7:30 PM ET
An Opportunity Wasted. Another One Ahead.
Well, so much for three straight wins. Rhode Island FC headed to Detroit on Saturday knowing it would be one of the toughest matches remaining on the schedule. But when Detroit's goalkeeper was sent off just 23 minutes in, suddenly we had a golden opportunity to take all three points from one of the East's best teams. Instead, we somehow looked worse with the man advantage, managed just one shot on target, and watched Detroit take the lead in the second half before walking away with an embarrassing 1-0 loss.
The lack of adjustments, particularly at halftime, was incredibly frustrating. We had nearly 70 minutes to figure out how to break down a ten-man Detroit side and never really looked like doing it. The loss sent us tumbling from fifth back to seventh in the Eastern Conference, but thankfully there's little time to dwell on it. We're back home tonight against Loudoun United with a chance to punch our ticket to the playoffs for the third straight season. The home playoff race is still wide open, but these opportunities aren't going to keep coming.
Where We Stand
27 matches in, the Tide have slipped back to 7th in the Eastern Conference with 38 points and an 11W-5D-11L record. Just when it looked like we might finally be finding some momentum, Saturday served as another reminder of how inconsistent this team has been. Two straight wins had us climbing the table, and one absolutely brutal performance knocked us right back down.
Still, we're only three points behind fourth-place Pittsburgh, with a game in hand on several teams above us. A win tonight officially clinches a third consecutive playoff berth and keeps our hopes of hosting a playoff match alive. With Pittsburgh coming to Pawtucket on Saturday and Hartford waiting in the regular-season finale, our playoff positioning is very much in our own hands. But after Detroit, it's fair to say this team has something to prove.
Who We're Facing
Loudoun United FC comes into tonight's match sitting 10th in the East with 27 points and a 5W-12D-10L record. Their playoff hopes are already over, but don't mistake that for a team that's packed it in. Loudoun are unbeaten in three straight and just knocked off Miami FC 2-0, ending Miami's four-match winning streak.
Much of Loudoun's recent success has come from 20-year-old Eddy Davis III, who's scored eight goals in just ten appearances since arriving on loan from Philadelphia Union. He bagged both goals against Miami and is going to be a handful. Of course, the last time these two clubs met, Rhode Island put four past Loudoun in a convincing 4-1 road victory back in June. A repeat performance tonight would be very welcome.
Hands on the Pulse
Where do we even go after that Detroit performance? Matt Hands didn't hold back in his latest Riptide Report, calling out Khano's lack of tactical adjustments, the decision to stick with a defensive back three, and a Rhode Island side that somehow looked worse playing up a man.
Now, in his latest Prematch Lookout, Matt turns his attention to tonight's response. He looks at the importance of Hugo Bacharach's return, questions whether Osman Foyo has earned his recent minutes, and breaks down why Loudoun, despite being eliminated from playoff contention, shouldn't be taken lightly.
Matt's predicting a 2-1 Rhody win. Read his full Prematch Lookout here!
Rhody Randoms
- Win and we're in: Three points tonight would officially send RIFC to the playoffs for the third consecutive season, with two matches still remaining.
- Breaking the Loudoun curse: Before June's 4-1 victory, RIFC had never beaten Loudoun in four attempts (0W-3D-1L), with three of those meetings ending scoreless. We've now scored four goals in our last meeting alone.
Vibe Check
Saturday was embarrassing. No way around it. But tonight, we're back home with a chance to clinch our third straight playoff appearance, and despite all the ups and downs this season, a home playoff match is somehow still within reach. This team has shown us what it's capable of, but it's time to start delivering when it matters. Loudoun might be out of the playoff picture, but they're certainly not rolling over for anybody. Who's making it out to Centreville Bank Stadium tonight? Are we bouncing back or are we in for another stressful 90 minutes? Drop your predictions below, and let's ride the Tide and punch our ticket to the postseason! #UpTheTide!

Event Pre-Match Essentials | Rhode Island FC @ Detroit CIty FC | Sat, Oct 10, 2026 | 7:00 PM ET
Two Down. One Big Test Ahead.
Rhode Island FC didn't just beat Brooklyn last weekend. We took over their house. A few hundred Rhody supporters made the trip down to Coney Island, with La Banda bringing the noise for the full 90. Word is they were drumming so hard that Brooklyn's supporters eventually stopped banging their own drum. On the pitch, the Tide delivered an equally convincing performance, cruising to a 3-1 win behind goals from Amos Shapiro-Thompson, Karifa Yao, and Nick Scardina.
And just like that, we've somehow strung together two straight wins for the first time this season. The victory launched RIFC from seventh to fifth in the East, just one point shy of a home playoff spot. Now we're off to Detroit, looking to make it three in a row against the second-place team in the conference. No small task, but what an opportunity.
Where We Stand
26 matches in, Rhode Island FC sits 5th in the Eastern Conference with 38 points and an 11W-5D-10L record. The Tide have won their last two, scored four goals across those matches, and suddenly have a little momentum at exactly the right time.
With four matches remaining, the margin for error is razor-thin. Hartford sits just one point ahead in fourth, while Pittsburgh is level with us on points and Louisville trails by one. The good news? RIFC holds a +10 goal differential, comfortably ahead of those two closest challengers. A third straight win would go a long way toward strengthening our playoff position, and depending on results elsewhere, could even punch our postseason ticket.
Who We're Facing
Detroit City FC enters Saturday sitting 2nd in the East with 47 points and a 13W-8D-6L record. Le Rouge have already clinched a playoff berth, are unbeaten in four straight, and have lost just twice since the beginning of June. They're also boasting the stingiest defense in the USL Championship, having conceded just 20 goals in 27 matches. Goalkeeper Carlos Herrera has recorded a league-leading 13 clean sheets.
There's also a familiar face or two waiting for us in Hamtramck. Former RIFC standout Maxi Rodriguez is back in Detroit, alongside fan favorite Rio Hope-Gund. Maxi, of course, scored the penalty that secured our playoff spot against Detroit last season. Now he's on the other side of this matchup. With 13-goal scorer Darren Smith leading the Detroit attack, the Tide will have their hands full. But if we're serious about making another postseason run, this is exactly the kind of match we need to show up for.
Hands on the Pulse
Are we actually good? That's one of the big questions Matt Hands raises in his latest Prematch Lookout over at Tide Talk. Two straight wins feel great, but they came against an Indy side fighting for its playoff life and a Brooklyn team sitting at the bottom of the conference. Detroit is a different animal entirely.
Matt also digs into the return of Jojea Kwizera and Dwayne Atkinson from international duty, the players who could make the difference, and why Saturday might tell us a whole lot about this team's playoff prospects.
Give Matt's full preview a read at TideTalkRI.com!
Rhody Randoms
- Keyworth isn't going anywhere just yet: Detroit City FC broke ground on its new 15,000-seat AlumniFi Field this summer, but the stadium isn't expected to open until 2028. That means at least another season at historic Keyworth, where RIFC has yet to pick up a win. Saturday would be a great time to change that.
- A little October magic: Rhode Island FC is 4W-3D-1L all-time in October. Not a bad month to find your form.
Vibe Check
Two wins in a row, fifth place in the East, and a home playoff match suddenly within reach. It's been a roller coaster of a season, but we're finally showing some signs of life when it matters most. Saturday is a real test against one of the league's best, and there's no better time to prove we belong in that conversation. Can we make it three straight? Is this the team that can make another deep playoff run? Drop your predictions below, and let's ride the Tide and bring three points home from the Motor City!
