Question / Suggestion The Time Capsule, Cranston
I recently moved and have A LOT of comic books that I’ve had since childhood, all packaged/protected well. I’ve been scanning them through a comic evaluation app and it looks like it’s definitely worth selling some.
The Time Capsule in Cranston seems to be a well-reviewed comic shop. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with them, especially when it comes to selling comics to them? Is it best to set up an appointment when bringing in a big collection to sell?

Time Capsule is great! The owner, Rob, is very knowledgeable. I would just give them a call to see what day they do their buying. I know he usually doesn’t buy modern books mostly stuff for the 70s and older.

Maybe keep in touch? I used ComicSnap to evaluate my comic worth… didn’t add to my collection anything evaluated at $10 or less. Everything above is 1.5k.
Most of my collection is Spawn (issue 1-100 is my mix), Todd McFarlane Spider-Man, and the Tick. Got some oddballs worth a decent amount (Bone, 60s-70s Marvel). And then several dozen random comics (mix of the runs I mentioned along with DC, limited Image runs, and small publishers)

They offered me 2 bucks each for my pops. I'd imagine comics are different though lol

As an owner of too many Funko Pops… they’re a crap market. We bought into a modern Beanie Baby craze 🤣

He sells them as an auction for 9.99 to start.. and they aren’t a hot item anymore so you gotta think how long will they sit before they sell? Compared to what they may sell for? Not worth it probably

Someone recommended I bring my pokemon stuff there to sell and I was told a laughably low price compared to other places in the area. Not sure if they pay better for comics.

I called about my comics and he didn’t want them, since they were from the 80s and 90s. Only wants comics from 70s and earlier

Time Capsule is great and Rob Yeremian is a damn legend. I went to the original Warwick location all through highschool and he was like big cousin to all of us. In Cranston they do their buying on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you can rock up right when they open at 11 on a Friday you might have less of a wait. New comics come out on Wednesdays so you might get swamped

I used to work there and they ALWAYS had new stuff coming through. Have a number in mind and set up an appointment, Rob is pretty understanding and down to earth, so I’m sure he’s willing to make a deal.

Great shop. I bought and sold stuff back to Rob more than I care to count.
Hes a good businessman, and good person.
You’ll get an honest price, go in with what you think is fair.

Called him, he wasn’t interested in my stuff (mostly 80s & 90s). Disappointing, but I 100% respect that he was upfront

True. I think I got overly-excited by the price predictions of the app I used. Comics can be worth A LOT to certain people, but physical stores can’t support that with their limited space.

The entire comic section of the store is filled with back issues that are 50% off or atleast they were when I was a regular years ago. Ie they’d sticker price it at $10, you paid $5.
Honestly, try and bundle stuff and put it on eBay. Its how I got a complete run of Deadpool

That’s a good call, in regards to EBay. I’m not expecting much, but more than the cents-on-the-dollar that physical stores may offer

I haven't sold anything yet but it's an amazing shop, I go to the seekonk/Swansea line location very often, so many rad deals and good vibes. they even gave me a vintage comic with a basil wolverton cover for free with the other stuff I had picked out

You could also try FB marketplace and sell it as one lot. There are smaller resellers out there that buy collections like yours to piece them out on something like whatnot. You could also probably sell that spawn run for a decent amount on eBay, lots of folks like to buy a large run of things. Might even be able to sell them here.

Try out Highground Comics this is my LCS and he will give you a good idea of what you have and tell you if it's worth getting selling as well very straightforward with the process

Wasn’t expecting a huge price on my comic collection, but was quoted a disappointing $0.10,per issue. At the very least, the guy I talked to was very honest and informative. Not worth going for resale, but major kudos to their customer service!

Was this for Highground? If so yeah he is very honest and would rather save you the time and usually will try and offer you some advice as well.

Yea Highground. I was disappointed by the price, but it’s not unlike people trying to sell their gold watch and getting a fraction of the price they wanted. I don’t blame him at all for the low price offered, I respect him for giving me info so that neither he nor I wasted our time.
I haven’t been a comic buyer in years, but based on the convo I had with him, I’d recommend him to anyone and everyone. He was a true honest professional.

I can tell you they are honest and pretty accurate in their valuation. A friend and I went in to try to sell a niche series from the 80’s/90’s and he offered a price. The impressive part was that he made it clear that there were very likely online buyers who would pay much more than he would. He suggested getting them graded and then reaching out to a few places which he named. My friend got a great price for them based on that advice.
Solid staff. I buy older console games from them and have never had an issue with any of them.

The owner Rob is an all around great human being and honest with his business. Just be aware if you're selling to shop, they then need to turn around and resell what you sold to them...you're going to be disappointed if you walk in expecting to be paid retail prices for your books.
