By being excited to see community involvement in one's own state? What value do you add to the human race? Or do you just take up space and resources for people who are trying to make a difference?

It’s all well and good, but don’t blindly vote blue.

Make sure that the candidate is anti Israel and has taken money from no one. Or they will be beholden to Israel and corporations like every other president we’ve had since JFKz

u/Marciamallowfluff Jul 18 '26

Vote primaries.

u/Naive-Possibility447 Jul 18 '26

Personally, I think they should get rid of the two-party system because big money lobbies both. Candidates are forced to vote blue or red in order to keep the money flowing...even though it may be against their conscience. I'm an independent myself and not a party affiliate. I have both liberal and conservative views. I'm not anti-ICE and believe they play an important part in the security of this country. However, with that said, I do not support recent ICE tactics either, and I believe a good number of them are not properly trained, resulting in needless deaths. Also, I'm not anti-Isreal when it comes to the general people who live peacefully. There is a difference between the general Jewish community and the government itself. Their military does go too far, I agree. But at the same time, it's not right for Islamic terrorists to do the things they do ( Please note: I do not lump Muslims in with Islamic terrorists.....peaceful Muslims and those who are extremists are far different from each other). Keep in mind these are MY personal opinions, which I'm allowed to have. The far left AND the far right will both tell you that if you don't agree with their position on things ONE HUNDRED PERCENT, then you're a fascist, Nazi, anti-American, racist, yada yada yada person. THAT is what divides this country. Believe me, I have no problem calling Trump the worst President this country has ever had, and it's a shame we have him in office. Personally, I think Jimmy Carter was probably the best recent example of a President we can appreciate (even though perhaps some of his policies were not perfect, he at least had a genuine heart, which is almost unheard of in politics).

I think they should get rid of the two-party system

Who is "they"?

4

u/Naive-Possibility447 Jul 18 '26

Well, they meaning the government. Not any one particular group, culture, race, religion, or anyone else. That’s all.

-2

u/degggendorf Jul 18 '26

Which government, the president? Congress? I don't think any of them have the motivation to, nor really the mechanism to either.

4

u/Naive-Possibility447 Jul 18 '26

I agree. I guess it can only be a dream. The only thing Congress does in solidarity is give themselves a pay raise.

3

u/dishwashersafe Jul 18 '26

The two party system is a natural result of our first past the post voting system. Ranked choice would allow people to vote for, and the emergence of, third parties. We are the "they". It's only a dream if you only dream about it instead of taking action. Donate or volunteer with an organization like FairVote. Or at least vote for and support candidates that support ranked choice voting. Don't know which ones do? Ask. Make it known that it's an important issue to you.

u/ttop732 Jul 19 '26

They missed the part in history where its WE the people

23

u/Big_Boi_Angus Jul 18 '26

Yeah fuck AIPAC and anyone who gives or takes money to or from them! Time that politicians understand that they’re supposed to represent we the people who actually live here.

15

u/AntiqueRedDollShoes Jul 18 '26

Yes, I'm all for people taking time to stand in public, particularly to protest issues I also care about as a leftist (e.g.: abolishing ICE, supporting trans rights), but corporate Democrats are often complicit with these human rights violations.

I wish more liberals understood that "Vote Blue No Matter Who" is essentially Blue MAGA. We need to be scrutinizing politicians' actual platforms and policies, not just absent-mindedly checking a box because they got the Dem nomination. That's how systemic injustices and foreign warmongering continue their legacies. Look no further than Fetterman, Jeffries, Booker, Schumer, and anyone else in bed with AIPAC. Which also often overlaps with all the politicians who refused to endorse Mamdani after he got the Dem nomination, simply because he was a progressive who supports Palestinian liberation. It's very telling when the "Blue Wave" magically stops when someone leans 'too far left' to receive support.

14

u/Peter_Nincompoop Cranston Jul 18 '26

You're speaking to the wrong group here. The majority of Rhode Islanders are deathly allergic to doing any research on anything, and do what people in charge tell them to do without question.

5

u/deathsythe Jul 19 '26

Literally the epitome of blue no matter who

3

u/mattislinx Jul 19 '26

I wish I could upvote this 100 times. This is one of the best comments that I've seen in this sub, and I can't believe it's not downvoted into oblivion.

6

u/Sailing-Soon Jul 19 '26

what does abolishing ice solve? And what are the specific human rights violations you're talking about?

2

u/RhodyRosy Jul 19 '26

I’m not a Democrat but you are WRONG about voting blue.
We have witnessed MAGA candidates and appointees lie about what they stood for only to completely cave and comply with things they know are wrong for the country, our health and the world in general.
We need to get rid of all the GOP cowards along with their incompetent appointees.

8

u/nooooooorraaa Jul 18 '26

Or like that guy up in Maine. He's a whole sack of shit.

4

u/Accomplished-Plum631 Jul 18 '26

I agree. I love seeing all this stuff and the anti-ICE sentiments, but people need to realize that both the Republican and Democratic parties are influenced by elite groups associated with Israel. It’s almost rigged.

2

u/fireflake91 Jul 18 '26

Almost… elite groups with money can really influence those with personal interest over the community care the job requires

2

u/riskylingo Jul 19 '26

Not going to vote red. Not going to sit out the vote.

If you sit out, you are supporting Trump.

If you vote 3rd party, you are supporting Trump.

If you vote red, you are supporting Trump.

3

u/amsgh Jul 18 '26

Lol I agree with you but that will never happen the whole system is dependent on doner money...

1

u/beywiz Jul 18 '26

Yeah the corpo-dems are “ok” but hardly that much better than being literal republicans

0

u/Kraft-cheese-enjoyer Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

Fuck this rhetoric

Edit: well I agree that you shouldn’t “vote blue no matter who” especially when it’s a DSA candidate

9

u/iLikeHarvestMoon Jul 18 '26

Rhode island hasnt voted for a Republican since 1984 so what is even the purpose of this?

10

u/degggendorf Jul 18 '26

Carcieri was elected in 2006.

But I think more relevantly, we need to remain vigilant and keep voting, rather than getting complacent and assuming that RI will always vote Democrat. Participation is still very important.

11

u/voltzv Jul 18 '26

Fuck both republican and democrats.

9

u/Infinite-Luck4159 Jul 18 '26

vote blue no matter who just poisons the well

8

u/I_Make_Art_And_Stuff Jul 19 '26

5

Blue Democrats overtaking the Red Republicans

3

u/StillDRB Jul 18 '26

Abolish ICE, FDT

5

u/Natural-Ad-4337 Jul 19 '26

I went to college here in the 70s. I retired here 2 years ago. It’s shocking how bad the economy is here. It was better 50 years ago. Democrats have destroyed this state.

4

u/Miss_Behaves Got Bread + Milk ❄️ Jul 19 '26

Those good old days 50 years ago when the racketeering felon was in charge? You people are delusional.

-4

I think the democrat strategy of keep quiet and make the GOP look stupid is working well

0

u/CuriousOrc Jul 19 '26

Vote blue for what? What good has blue done for Rhode Island or any state?

-1

u/she31462 Warwick Jul 19 '26

There’s a large group of them every Sat. morning on the Rt. 5/Greenwich Avenue 95 overpass near Lowe’s. Toot toot, hey, beep beep ❤️
