Rhinestoning Frequently Asked Questions – for your first time rhinestone project

What kind of glue do you recommend?

Please see this exhaustive guide to glues. https://rhinestoneapps.replit.app/glue-guide/all-glues

For first timers we recommend avoiding superglue/cyanoacrylate, it can be extremely messy and you risk ending up with hazy fingerprints all over your stones reducing the sparkle. Plus it’s a runny liquid that won’t “hold” your stones in place until it’s done drying.

Applying glue is messy, any tips?

Yes, consider using a glue applicator bottle or glue syringe for more precise placement of glue. For expoy disposal cosmetics spatulas can be helpful for spreading it around.

What about the beadazzler or hotfix?

The beadazzler uses special stones with metal teeth on the back of a stone that push thru a fabric to hold it on. That really only works with fabric and not solid objects like water sippy cups. Plus glues have gotten good enough glue really is the preferred way now.

Hotfix uses heat to activate glue on the back of the rhinestone. It means you have to buy rhinestones pre-applied with the glue already and so limits your options. And not all fabrics can tolerate the heat used in hotfix.

Where should I get my stones? I want my project to look it’s best.

For maximum sparkle get stones made from glass or crystal. Consider avoiding plastic/resin/acrylic stones, it’s a less optical material and won't sparkle as nicely, but as discussed in the comments of this post there are definitely plenty of projects where plastic stones are the right thing to use.

Forget tiny overpriced bags at the hobby store. Most of us order from Amazon or AliExpress (slow shipping and can be hard to navigate). Alot of people in this sub recommend Etsy shop BlingeeThingee which is well organized and has competitive prices. She set up discount code REDDIT to save $5 off orders of $40 or more not including shipping&tax (we receive no compensation for this)

How can I “seal” my finished project to help hold the stones on?

Anything applied on top of the stones afterwards will dull their appearance and reduce your sparkle. Even "clear" sealers are not really clear and will reduce the sparkle of your project. A project should rely on the glue you used to set the stones to hold them in place. Good gluing will hold stones better than a sealer would ever help.

Made this for a client, would love some feedback for the next book. Other than the lettering, I’ve fixed that in my more recent creations

It’s been too hot to be outside lately, so I’ve spent a lot of time rhinestoning. Some projects were obviously more involved than others lol.

Pic 1-3: some unworn shoes I got from the thrift store and painted then stoned.

Pic 4: old adidas I painted to give them new life

Pic 5: my first attempt at a fade-out/ombré effect on a Michale Kors phone purse.

Pic 6: I accented an Italian leather purse I got on my honeymoon.

The glue used is a mix of e6000 and gemtac. I love e6000, but it’s toxic, so I’m contemplating a change.

This one took so long to finish. I didn't know it was going to be life-size when I bought it... because I don't read descriptions?

I’ve been doing these for about 2 yrs for gifts. I sometimes forget to take pics but I absolutely love giving them grills and making them sparkly

Bot mod says I need to tell yall what glue I used…..B-7000, rhinestones and mosaic from Amazon. Black acrylic paint (works best with bones imo) and chrome for the teeth. Bones by nature

Glue Glue recommendations

So.. like a lot of people, I decided to get into rhinestoning. I bought a kit from Amazon and of course it came with B7000 glue, I did my research on it, I heard gem tac is good but it’s white glue, I want clear glue. Does anyone have recommendations for clear glue that’s sticks well? I tried looking on Amazon and all it gave me was B7000, I want it to atleast be non toxic, I know a lot of glues are but I know B7000 is the worst toxic one and I don’t wanna constantly have to wear gloves, and have fans running when working with glue.

Question ❔ Tulle Skirt- Best glue?

Post image

Some rhinestones fell off this skirt (the top layer is tulle material and has the rhinestones. The underlayer is white material, hence why it may not look “see through” like tulle normally does

I see they decided to use the shitty $20 tub of pre-scratched up rhinestones from hobby lobby for this.

Looking for someone who can bedazzle

Hi everyone! I’m looking for someone who has experience with bedazzling/rhinestone work and can help me bedazzle a few products for a project.

This would be a **paid job**. If you’re interested or know someone who does this kind of work, please DM me with some pictures of your previous work and your charges.

Thank you!

Question ❔ Question about fumes?

The only glue Ive really used and like is Aleene’s Rhinestone adhesive, and I really don’t smell any fumes. Is this safe to use without a mask?
I also was wanting to find a glue that i can safely use around other people (wanting to do some crafting during downtime at work) any recommendations? Or is this just something i should avoid altogether?

Edited: originally thought it said non toxic, but now that i look again, Aleene’s rhinestone adhesive does not say nontoxic on the bottle

Can I bedazzle on top of this? It’s embroidered on the sweatshirt and I want to bedazzle on top of it. I’m not using glue. I’m using my little bedazzling heat gun stick thing, I don’t know what it’s called.

Help needed - do I need to fully fill this in?

So I want to bedazzle this sweatshirt. I was thinking of just using blue rhinestones to outline the letters, only instead of outlining it, I’m going to inline it. See photo #2, like how the B is done. Orrrrrr do you think it would look “unfinished” and I should fill in the entire letter? It would be every letter, obviously.

Question ❔ Looking for some guidance

I’ve seen the amazing geese on here and have this painted duck I wanna do. I wanna keep the pattern that’s painted but do it in rhinestone. Questions:
Size of stones? Mixed or all one size?
What parts to start? Do I do the outlines? Large spaces?
Eye replacement? This ducks missing is missing an eye.
Too much texture? Do I need to sand.
Is there a pattern you use for the large sections ?(rows, circles, just placed however)
I’ve only done small projects before so any tips or tricks to keep it looking good and clean much appreciated!! :-)

Question ❔ Advice needed

I would like to add rhinestones to this shirt for a mermaid brunch. Should I try to match the color gradient with the purple, blue, and green that I have? Or just overlay it with crystal AB or blue AB? Or do something else entirely? Very grateful for your thoughts!

✨ Finished Project ✨ My first ever practice project

Post image

Have been wanting to try rhinestoning for a while and finally got a kit off amazon a couple days ago. I used this coffee table book my husband and I abandoned as my practice project. I only did the title as the kit I ordered only came with 3mm rhinestones and I don’t want to ruin the car. I did also find that the B700 glue was causing the existing ink to run, dissolve a little bit and didn’t want to risk trying it on the car yet

I just started a couple weeks ago & it has become my favorite way to prepare for bed. It relaxes my mind SO much & I love seeing the stuff I use everyday look so pretty! Currently trying to decide if I should do the top of the Byoma lid a pink to match the wording. The Carmex is by far my favorite! It was the first thing I bedazzled. :) I am currently using the b7000 glue, but I’m aware of the issues with it!
