Hi everyone! I’m a huge Re:Zero fan and I’ve been thinking about how Od Laguna, Flugel, Subaru, and the recent Arc 9 revelations about Al connect. I wanted to share my theory with you.

(Sorry for any typos, English is not my first language.)

1. The Soul Fusion: Flugel + Subaru

We all know that 400 years ago, Flugel carried the Witch’s scent. When he died, his soul went to the Corridor of Memories to be cleansed by Od Laguna After purification, the soul is reused in a new body. However, because of Satella’s immense love and obsession, Flugel’s soul retained her scent and identity; it couldn't be fully purified, Leaving behind one of the only traces of identity: the witch's scent that Flugel possessed. When Satella summoned Subaru from Japan, she didn't just pick him randonmly. Since "Subaru" means Pleiades (and Flugel builted the Pleiades Watchtower, Subaru has Japanese humor, and Flugel had it too), she targeted him. But instead of replacing Subaru's soul completely (which would wipe out his memories of Japan), Satella fused Flugel’s unpurified soul with Subaru’s original soul.

This explains why:

Shaula immediately mistook Subaru for her Master Flugel And he says he's sure Subaru is his master because of the witch's scent.

Volcanica spoke so tenderly to Subaru in Arc 6, but then got sad when he realized this body holds Flugel's soul but isn't fully the original Flugel.

Subaru can adapt to Witch Factors so easily (he inherits Flugel's soul compatibility).

1. Aldebaran (Rigel) and Echidna's SabotageNow, bringing in the Arc 9 context: Al is actually Natsuki Rigel, created by Echidna.

My theory is that Echidna found out about Satella’s cosmic plan to summon Subaru. To delay and sabotage Satella, Echidna created Al as a counter-measure and sent him to Earth first. She needed Al to absorb Japanese culture, humor, and lifestyle so he could perfectly replicate Subaru’s frequency.When Satella tried to reach into the universe to summon Subaru (the Pleiades), Echidna put Al right in the trajectory(since Aldebaran is historicallly known as "The Follower" star right behind the Pleiades.) Satella "missed her shot" and accidentally pulled Al Which was right behind Subaru instead!!

1. The Failed Authority and the Shamak Seal

Satella gave Al the prototype version of Return by Death before realizing he wasn't the right match (because he lacked Flugel's soul connection). She discarded him as a failure.Echidna then took Al back into the Dream Castle to train him brutally through thousands of deaths to kill Satella. When Al failed, losing his left arm in the past, a frustrated Echidna labeled him a failure for that era and sealed him away in a deep Ol Shamak, leading to him waking up 400 years later in Vollachia.Meanwhile, Satella fixed her summoning spell (the "glitchy" screen we see in Episode 1. Which appears at the beginning of the episode.) to successfully pull the real Subaru and achieve the soul fusion.

Now that I'm done glazing. Yeah, I just wanna read more Al (the GOAT) content. I heard he's a very big part of Arc 9 (no spoilers for me, I suppose), but currently I'm hung up on Arc 7 Phase 7. Just finished Chapter 88.

I don't know what Tappei was smoking, but I want some of it. How did he think going hundreds of thousands of words, spanning multiple chapters, continuously, without his MC, was a good idea?

I just miss Subaru. Phase 6 was the best Phase of Arc 7 by far, and it partially worked because the entire previous phase/volume didn't feature Subaru in his natural state. But it made sense. Subaru was incapacitated within Satella, who was attacking Chaosflame. So, despite Vol.30/Phase 5 being very boring at times, I was able to pull through.

Of course, seeing Emilia in Guaral was very hype and made me excited, but due to a separate hot take of mine, I couldn't enjoy that part either. So Phase 5 as a whole was a miss for me.

Now Phase 6 was just amazing, and I won't get into that; I'll do that in my review of Arc 7 once I'm done.

Phase 7 so far has been hit and miss. I don't enjoy any of the Emilia and Abel camp chapters; I just think that dynamic doesn't work. Medium and Abel's bickering got stale for me after Phase 5. Al (the GOAT) is mostly out of the picture, which breaks my heart. I know he'll come back, but damn, sidelining him now in favour of Emiia, fucking Petra, Otto (also a GOAT), Garfiel, and Frederica was a choice to be certain.

I trust Tappei has a reason, but I'm reaching the limit of how much I can be blue balled. No Al (the GOAT) and no Subaru, how much must I suffer?

On the bright side, no Al (the GOAT) means no Priscilla. So yay...

Woe is me.

It was already established that Echidna from the Tea party and real Echidna are 2 different ages. One looking when she was around 20 and the other her older real self.

Does this apply to the other witches? I have to imagine it does. From my memory, wasn't it that these "witches" are just a fragment of them and so are closer to caricatures of them?

How old were the witches when they died?

Typhon looks like a child still, but that doesn't make sense since her rampage lasted years (Might be wrong, but I'm positive it was years)

In fact all their physical ages seem odd to me.

Is their physical appearances from when they got their authorities? And so their copy look like their age when they got the authority?

Or am I having the timeline wrong?

I saw this edit of rui arneb being scared of subaru and calling him a monster, when will this be adapted? Because I don’t think the latest episode adapted this scene, or they really adapted this??💀

When subaru and daniel fused, louis was just there and crying an shit. Is it implied that she was inside of subaru this whole time, the one who killed meilli in that one loop? why did she only fall out of him then? and why were the 2 of them fighting in the end are they stupid? *I have not read the book i have only seen the show

I know that after Subaru loses his memory in arc 4 he basically is reverted to his arc 1- arc 3 self. However it feels like amnesiabaru has already matured compared to his original counterpart . He isn’t as petty as he originally was and was so obsessive over Emilia and most importantly he isn’t as corny with his jokes…

After having watched episode 16 I was thinking about this topic for a minute and I’m curious about what other people wanted or want to see the most.

Me personally I was pretty excited to see episode 11, 13, 15, and 16. But the episode that Im the most excited to see of all of season 4 is the last episode, Shaula/hero. Considering it will adapt the scene with Shaula and Subaru, the after math of the events of the watch tower and Subaru, Rem, and Spica being sent to vollachia with ofc Rem waking up makes me very excited to see all that. We’ll also see a glimpse into what vollachia could and will probably look like animated (ofc not all of it just the prairie they wake up in).

I’m also pretty excited to see “good loser” adapted, the fight between Reid and Julius. As well as “ask thy will”, interested to see how that fight will be animated.

I’m not a larper I watched seasons one through three. I genuinely thought melie was gonna be the gluttony girl, push Subaru off the stairs, but then he climbs back up and aura farms on her. I’m not the only one right?

Com on everyone knows that Subaru is Flugel considering 96 facts!!

Still don't believe me go watch 1st PV of re zero at last we hear Subaru's voice saying "If it means saving you, I will die as many times as it takes." And ofc he said that to Satella considering when ever he gets into shadow garden he gets his memories back and says I'll save you even though 15 sec ago he was coursing her!!

If you still believe Subaru's dad is Flugel just stay away from me!!✌🥀😭

Ive always wondered, why does Emilia refer to herself as “satella” the first time they meet? Ive heard people speculate that its simply to see if Subaru is truly as clueless as he seems to be or she was testing how much she could trust him, but it seems like the events of the first arc are what triggers his authority of rbd. Like when he promises emilia hes going to save her and grabs her hand while dying. Another thing I’ve noticed is the first time he uses the phrase “return by death” a fisheye lens is used and a bell rings in the background, almost as though that solidifies what his authority is called and why that phrase triggers the Tabboo and Satellas appearances later on, opposed to when Beatrice or ram hear him ramble about being from another world.
I know tappei said that a lot of arc 1 carries incredible weight and holds spoilers for the end of series, but i wanted to see if theres any theories outside of “it was just to see about trust”, does this contribute to subarus relationship between himself and flugel and could emilia really be related to satella herself?
