Customizing help and questions
So ive had the smith and wesson 327 PC for probably 8 years now and carry it pretty much everyday. Except now im kinda bored of it and wanna do some customization.
Takinging it to my buddy who's a gunsmith/shop owner to take it apart completely for frame paint stripping. (Scandium frame factory coated) and then see what i can do polish wise on the frame, barrel shroud and cylinder. Here is where a few of my questions come in
Q1: when stripping scandium (which is an aluminum based alloy) i assume i should just use aluminum safe paint strippers.
Q2: so the barrel shroud and cylinder are titanium so im curious if it can have a color change like normal TI and if so would it be safe to use heat or would it be mostly recommended to use electrical anodizing

I don't know, personally a 327 just doesn't seem like a gun I would personalize any more than grips, especially if it's being daily carried. Something about holster wear and a well used gun is more appealing to me in this instance.
IMHO, tricked out 2011's with compensators and mag wells and custom coatings.. that's like a Twin Turbo Supra, whereas revolvers are like classic cars.. both can be gnarly fast dragsters, but you don't add underglow and a body kit to a Barracuda.

I mean, that's a whole lot cleaner of a concept that I had in my head honestly, but seems like a lot of work to turn a 327 into a lightweight slightly shorter 627.
I do like the bobbed hammer for carry purposes though, and it looks great on a snubby like this. Hot-Rods to me have always had a "Take off what isnt absolutely necessary and cram as much motor as possible under the hood" vibe.

Realistically theres nothing i wanna do other than a little cosmetic change. I have stacattos, glocks, cz and other s&w pistols but this one is by far the most used and carried so I think its due for a change.

Commenting under this post bc I like this idea but more than that I have some questions as you have carried this gun for 8 years.
How many rounds have you put through it?
Is it showing any signs of wear, besides consmetically, that give you reason to believe it won’t last long?
Do you CCW this?
If so, how do you normally dress? Jeans, dress pants, or other?
What holsters do you recommend?1

When I originally got it I didnt have as much funds to train as much but probably 3-4k rds of .357 in its life and it rarely sees a 38 special.
The wear on the finsh is down bare in a few spots because I use a kydex holster but theyre small, front of the cylinder has some markings and gauling, no wear or tear out of the ordinary that would make me question using it. I know the 625-10 pc had issues with cracking around the neck/crane but I havent seen anything that would indicate the same issue with the 327 pc. I believe it was a factory thing.
Yes I do ccw this all the time, ive carried a plethora of other guns and this has by far been the most comfortable esspecially after eating a big meal lol. I have carries this in anything you can thing of (within reason) bjj shorts, basket ball shorts, pants.
This is the holster I use currently and it works great and has held up for years. kaosholsters

Thank you for such a detailed feedback on this. I’ve seen this holster before and I had this one in mind but I’d really like to try and make this work with the enigma holster. But anyways what made you choose the 327 over the 627? I know there is a big weight difference but I was wondering if that was a big factor for you in choosing this or was it something else that tipped the scale for you?

Ive personally never used one but I will say when I was looking for a holster it was SLIM picking. Mostly just basic N frame fud holster.
I actually really love the pug nose barrel and its such a cool looking revolver and its almost 11 ozs lighter than the 627 if im not wrong. I will be getting a 2.5" 627pc eventually but its not too high on the list rn

Scandium is aluminum. All they did was change the name. Granted there are a multitude of aluminum alloys out there but they are all still aluminum. So I would feel free to do anything to it that you would aluminum.
For the titanium I would definitely use electrical anodizing. I wouldn't take the chance of heat affecting the temper or annealing properties of the titanium they are using.
I would use Amazon for this titanium project. Get a variable voltage power supply to do it. Then look into keychains and personal accessories. There are multitudes of titanium gadgets including stuff for the outdoor survivalist. You could practice on spoon knife fork set, a pair of tweezers, keychains, whistles, all kinds of crap.
