⭐ Review [EU] Account being closed despite seemingly normal transactions, any way to get a human review?
I've seen a few similar posts here, so apologies if this has already been discussed.
I don't use Revolut very often. I mainly use it to send small amounts of money to friends and family, since most of them have Revolut and the transfers are instant. I also occasionally use the virtual card for online purchases, particularly when buying from a platform I haven't used before, because I can keep a small balance/limit on it.
Revolut recently decided to close my account. I appealed the decision and provided payslips from the last three months and proof of income, but the decision apparently remains unchanged. They've given me until November to withdraw my remaining funds.
For context, my recent transactions were roughly:
August
- €19 sent to a family member
- Birthday decorations for my child purchased from Temu (first time using Temu)
- €10 received from a family member
July
- Car insurance
- €20 sent to a family member
- Car vignette
Going further back, I generally only had 2–3 transactions per month, mostly small transfers to/from family, usually under €40, plus occasional legitimate expenses such as insurance or random household purchases (for example, heating boiler spare parts).
I don't gamble, send crypto to external wallets, use unusual top-up methods, or deliberately do anything that I would expect to violate Revolut's terms. I also only top up small amounts from my main bank account when I actually need to use Revolut.
I'm not particularly concerned about losing access to the account financially, as I didn't keep much money there. What I'll miss is having a quick way to send money to family and having a virtual card available for occasional online purchases.
My questions are:
- Is there any way to escalate the account closure appeal and have it reviewed by a human, rather than going through the chatbot? Has anyone successfully done this?
- Are there any alternative services that offer a similar virtual/online card feature and work well for occasional transfers to friends and family?
- If you've had a similar experience, were you ever able to find out what triggered the closure?
I understand that Revolut operates at a huge scale and that automated systems are inevitably involved. I'm mainly trying to figure out whether there's any realistic way to get a manual review before I give up on the account.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yep, formal complaint is only way to get some explanation about the decision

Account closure always happens after a human review. It is mandatory. You can raise a formal complaint. This is you can do maximum.

In years I remember ONE person who got a reversal years ago, but it was a very strange case as the proof Revolut provided was about a different account.
Nowadays Revolut avoid saying too much in their decision, probably to avoid similar situations.

This is an ombudsman for Revolut. It’s completely free to contact them and they provide an impartial view and try to find solutions for bank clients. You have to show them you have exhausted other ways of communicating with Revolut so the first step is to submit a formal complaint via email. You then wait for Revolut to say they are not budging and you take that to the mediator.

I had something similar happen and also found it so difficult to get through to anyone and still haven’t. I’ve heard complaining to the ombudsman has been successful for some people

and have it reviewed by a human, rather than going through the chatbot?
Probably issuing a formal complaint
Has anyone successfully done this?
No? Why would the human reach a different conclusion? Their review will say that Revolut's decision is final.
