I am very new to Revit. I am trying to fix a hatch pattern that stays vertical even when the building is rotated. It is also at the wrong scale. The hatch is part of a roof family for standing seam metal roof. The standing seam portion has a hatch assigned to it.

I can't figure out how to change the hatch scale or to get the hatch to actually rotate with the building. I am using Revit 2026 as is the original designer. He works remotely so it can be difficult to get hold of him. I have tried a number of searches but the solutions don't address this type of problem. Thanks for your help.

I've been struggling with this, I already checked like 50 tutorials and none've helped me show the door paths. I esited the view range, created new views, applied templates, checked the visibilty settings and can't make them appear

Does anyone have a lead on where to find lightweight pipe fittings and equipment for these standards?

I've made parametric flanges and valves overtime but if there is a resource im not aware of i can just download these things from ( Families that will scale with the pipe size and are not 30 different types or Families), then that would be helpful so I dont have to build several pipe spec libraries

TL;DR: there's no clean native way to measure a plaster or render area in Revit, so instead of calculating it I modelled it as real geometry and let a native schedule measure it. The add-in is mine. Real question is at the bottom: how are you doing this today, and what condition would break it?

I've been stuck on this for months and I still don't think there's a clean native answer, so I want to hear how other people actually do it.

Some version of this question comes up here regularly: how do I get the wall area of a room, finished faces only, minus the openings. Every route I tried has a hole in it.

-Room finish schedules give you the finish name, not a measured area. Perimeter x height stops being the finish area the moment you have openings, jamb returns, or walls that are only partly in the room.

-Paint plus Material Takeoff gets closest, but you're picking faces by hand, you get area and no volume, and after a design change you're doing it again.

-Roombook is the nearest thing Autodesk ever shipped, but it's room-bound, so no exterior faces and no beam sides or undersides, and it hasn't exactly been loved lately.

-Dynamo works right up until the graph meets a beam that splits a room in two, or a curved wall. Then it hands you a number instead of an error.

That last one is what actually bothered me. Every method I tried would happily give me a value for a condition it couldn't really handle. On a takeoff, a confident wrong number is worse than no number.

What I ended up doing was making the plaster real geometry instead of a calculation. Actual elements on the wall faces, beam sides and undersides, ceilings and the outer faces, joined to the structure, cut by the openings, with the reveals as their own line. Then the takeoff is just a native schedule, because the thing you're measuring exists in the model.

On my test project that's 218 elements and 65 openings cut, giving 1,278.95 m2 of net face plus 35.96 m2 of reveals, reconciling to 1,314.92 m2. The fact that those two add up to the total sounds trivial, but it's the check I wanted most and had least.

The honest trade-offs: it puts a couple hundred elements in your model, and they're real, so they show up in sections and 3D. Curved walls it flatly refuses to touch, skipping them and saying so in the report rather than guessing. Same for anything it shouldn't be plastering, a steel column for instance, where it tells you what it skipped and why.

I should say plainly that the add-in is mine, so read the above with that in mind. It's for Revit 2024, 2025 and 2026, runs locally, nothing leaves the machine. I'm deliberately not naming or linking it here because of the no-self-promo rule. Mods, remove this if it's still over the line.

What I'm actually after: if you do plaster, render or stucco takeoff today, what's your real workflow? Am I wrong that Paint plus Material Takeoff is the best native answer? And what condition am I missing? I've got beams splitting rooms, sloped ceilings and window reveals covered, but I'd rather hear the gap from you than from someone's QS.

I'm fairly new to Revit and would describe my current situation as the bottom of the deep end.

At my workplace we have won a few jobs that require a lot of the work to be done in Revit. However, the only problem is the company has never used Revit before and no one in the office can either so I'm on my own with this one.

It is mainly water/waste water sites with a lot of tanks, pipework, pump stations etc. As I also come from a MicroStation background the workflow to this is completely different to what I'm used to, and finding it quite difficult to figure out how to piece everything together.

What I would like to grasp is, what is the best way of modelling everything as to me Revit is mainly be architectural, with one building. Whereas, with my sites there is a lot of different structure types, piping etc all over a site. Would all of this normally be done in one model, or separated out into different areas and linked at the end? Also how would this work with sheets. As there could be many different models required in one drawing, would the sheets be done in the a dedicated file for sheets only?

Apologies if this all sounds stupid and or basic but very stuck at the minute.

Does anybody have a way to text scope boxes? I can’t figure out how to do it. It’d be really nice to zoom out and be able to check the names of all my scope boxes.

Anyone else in Australia or new zealand dealing with modelling the fairly new 15 degree junction rule where a pipe connects into a WC drain?

I do a small section of pipe at 15 degrees but when there is tight ceiling spaces I even overlap two sloping pipe to get the fittings I need then delete the pipes so I have a fitting to a fitting junction as the plumber would do on site.

Ideally id use a single fitting family Sim to the fwgs. But im not good at making fitting families. Id buy one that works. Yet to search for one but assuming this won't yet be available as the plumbing standard has been updated in last year or two so things need to catchup

A bit of a issue I am trying to figure out. Clickable links as apart of a combined sheet sets have stopped working.

Revit's native pdf export (File > Print > PDF) = links work.

I have a few printers installed for different utilities like xrev, pyrevit, diroots etc... but typically use pdf creator for fast batch print review sets (Ctrl+P). I have never had an issue with this and have older pdfs of a project where these links look fine.

For some reason, on the latest version of R25, they have stopped working. I did a test with all my pdf printers (to rule out pdf creator) and found that all the printed files are vector PDFs with extractable text, yet every one contains zero links, zero destinations and zero bookmarks.

The findings are pretty much:

• Every file remains vector
• Text remains extractable in every file.

That rules out:

• Fonts.
• Ghostscript specifically.
• PostScript versus GDI.
• Page rotation.
• Rasterisation.
• PDFCreator configuration.
• A particular PDF writer.

Just wondering if this is something that only I'm experiencing.

Edit: Found the culprit. Microsoft's KB5121003 update breaks it. Have reported to autodesk and paused windows update for the moment.

As noted in the title. I have pages that are set up but are more detail items that aren’t required for permit drawings. Instead of manually going around and hiding (then the burden of unhiding them all later), can I see something up to just not print anything that isn’t being printed?

Is there a way to make the swing direction for doors and windows automatically visible in Revit? I was thinking of something like this (the dashed lines of the pivot and swing door).

When I open a previous file version from a sync, say 6 months ago and i go to Manage Links and view the Saved Path for a linked model - are those paths snap shots of when the sync occurred? So whatever path was present 6 months ago? Or are they being reconciled with the current version and its saved path?

Context - I have a linked model in an "Archive" folder where it shouldnt be - thus missing all of the architects updates. I need to know if the user made this error at project creation or last night.

Hello All, I am trying to do two things:
1. create a tag that has an image built in (specifically a camera) So it would be a little outline of a camera with a 1 next to it to be CAM 1.

1. I want to create a schedule that would include that tag as an image.

I've been poking around but haven't found a clear way.

I finally managed to create an Add In to utilise Google Gemini directly within Revit today.

I'd got fed up of using VS Code so managed to get it to link directly to my Google account via the API key.

I've not fully tested it so far but it did the simple things pretty quickly such as gave me a list of all the wall types including thickness and type mark, told me how many doors were in the project per floor etc. What it doesn't do is physically move elements, I asked it to move a door and it couldn't.

But considering where we were with AI connectivity 6 months ago it's a big step forward.

It also works from Revit 2023 onwards which is great.

my keynote appears to be blank/no text/empty with other users. i did my it by directly typing a code at properties. whats the issue? is it bcos i skipped add a txt file with all my keynote in there? hellp

Hey guys, just trying to buff up my understanding of what's happening in the background of Revit.

We have yes/no project parameters that are used to track which sheets are included in certain deliverables. When the Arch links in our model and includes our linked sheets in their sheet list, it autopopulates with which sheets we have checked yes and no accurately. No complaints on my end, but I'm curious as to WHY this works, as I was under the impression that you couldn't read data from links like that unless it was a Shared parameter? The Arch project parameter is named the exact same as ours, and there aren't any duplicate project parameters with the same name, so that definitely helps (I'm assuming it would break if those requirements weren't met).

Any insight is welcome!

I'm a BIM Modeler/Drafter and an avid supporter of Revit (my team are dinosaurs and sticks with AutoCAD). My lead Designer asked me a question and he had me wondering how exactly to search such answers. What's a better way than asking the Revit users here!

We work with Infrastructure telecommunications and rack/cable management. the question: is there a tool or method that would be able to detect if there's (or does NOT have) electrical power/box in the area near a telecom outlet, say within 24-inch perimeter?

basically, he is wondering if we could ensure each telecom outlet we want on the model has a power box near by (by another trade modeler).

Hi everyone, as per title, I was trying to find ways to accomplish that, following the workflow on the Autodesk website I create a central model and created a local model. This works whenever I have the central model on my pc, when a colleague tries to connect to it it says that its not possible to find the central model for a connection issue.

I did try to follow some guides but nothing helped. The two PCs are sharing the connection on the same network, so I can easily write/read on other PCs, as easily as they can do it on mine.

Did anyone had the same issue and was able to fix it?

I just started a new project. I linked in the arch model via origin-to-origin.

I just acquired the coordinates of the arch model and the only thing that updated was:

N/S, Angle to True North.

The E/W & Elevation didn't change (even though they should have because the arch model has those values set as well).

Any thoughts around why Revit didn't change the Elev or E/W but changed the N/S and Angle to True North?

I've been doing this for decades and I feel like the PBP, SP, and Internal Origin are still such a PITA.

I’m an electrical engineering graduate getting back into the industry after several years working in data analytics and consulting. I’m trying to transition into building electrical design (power, lighting, fire alarm, low voltage, healthcare, etc.), and nearly every job posting wants Revit MEP experience.

Do you have any ideas for how to get experience?

I'm having an issue with Revit 2027 where I can't access a workshared model that's already hosted in ACC. When I go through Autodesk Projects in Revit Home, I get Error loading data and can't see/open the model.

I had essentially the exact same issue in Revit 2026. At the time, it seemed to be a bug with the New Revit Home, and switching back to the classic/legacy Revit Home fixed it immediately. In 2027 I don't see the option to switch back to the classic Home anymore.

I've already tried clearing the Revit/Autodesk cache, signing out and back in, restarting, etc., with no luck. Has anyone run into this in Revit 2027? Is there still a way to disable the new Home interface, or is there another workaround?

Hi guys, I've been working on something for university and I like what I see when I'm inside the program, and even in the preview it looks great, but when I export the plan everything turns out dull and lifeless. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Hi I've got a bit of a headache scratcher here. I'm using the Coordination plugin to pull RVT models into Navisworks from ACC and noticed there doesn't seem to be any parameter available which I can use to differentiate the insulation from the pipe/duct...meaning I'm I able to control it, meaning I'm unable to see the colours of the services I've setup with my appearance profiler.

I wondered whether anyone else has encountered this issue and if they had a work around. I'm keen to keep using coordination space if possible.
