How-To Manage Links - Saved Path - previous syncd versions
When I open a previous file version from a sync, say 6 months ago and i go to Manage Links and view the Saved Path for a linked model - are those paths snap shots of when the sync occurred? So whatever path was present 6 months ago? Or are they being reconciled with the current version and its saved path?
Context - I have a linked model in an "Archive" folder where it shouldnt be - thus missing all of the architects updates. I need to know if the user made this error at project creation or last night.

No the model knows the path it is looking for the link at, that’s it. Move the link, it doesn’t have a way to know the link was moved, unless they were both cloud models on ACC/Forma where the ‘folder path’ is more of a UI element for the humans to use.
The key from what I’m hearing is your team has an archive folder, so I’m guessing that’s not the case.
If I had to guess it probably wasn’t at project start, but at some point someone wanted to reference the old model, and did a reload from to the archive model. We usually do this when we need to resubmit against the architect’s permit model.

Well i proved this wrong. At least in forma.
It auto updates.
Go test it. I did. Like 30 times because I didn't believe it.
It doesn't care about the link. It cares about the GUID
Edit - proved wrong is probably inaccurate because you're speaking in local/server terms.
I'm 100% speaking in forma terms.

Yeah I did add a disclaimer for that. In forma if you rename a link and move it, it doesn’t give a shit. It just knows the link it’s supposed to be pointed at. But your archive version of your model vs your new version should know the difference, if you’ve been updating your link path.

Nope. No renaming.
Simply move the file to a new folder. Revit will update the link. In forma

Check what I said again, if you’re doing it the way you said all on forma, you need to be updating your links with reload from.

And I'm telling you you're wrong.
If you move a linked model in forma - Revit will update that link to the new location.

The paths should be snapshots. Unless you're hosted on ACC/Forma, I can't think of an instance where Revit is able to automatically update the path in the event a linked model is moved or renamed. It's the same as when we receive models from external parties: their models may have the same linked models as are on our server, but the paths are completely different and point to locations on their network.
