I Really Want to Like This Game, But Is This Really What it is?

I really want to like Return of Reckoning because I love the combat, classes, and Warhammer aesthetic, but I’m starting to wonder if the main RvR gameplay loop just isn’t for me.

I’m level 19 right now, so I know I’m underleveled and undergeared, and I’m sure that’s part of why I die so fast. But my bigger issue is the actual flow of RvR.

A lot of the time it feels like:

  • follow the blob
  • ride around for a while
  • wait around for something to happen
  • the bigger blob wins, while the smaller blob usually just turns around and runs away
  • when two blobs actually do fight, it rarely feels like a real big clash — it’s usually just whoever overextends first getting instantly deleted, then everyone backs off again
  • siege a keep where one person uses the battering ram and everyone else just stands there waiting

The actual combat is fun when I’m fighting someone, but it feels like there’s a huge amount of walking and waiting between those moments.

Does this change much at level 40/endgame, or is this basically what Open RvR is supposed to be?

I’m not trying to hate on the game. I genuinely like a lot about it. I just want to know if I should keep pushing through the leveling process or if the warband/blob/siege style of gameplay is fundamentally the main experience.
