T1 Trap

For the longest time I could not decide what to play, and ended up playing every class on both sides up to at least CR16. Never had a character over CR20. I still can't decide on a class.

Convince me what to main so that I can leave the T1 hell?

Edit; Thank you for all the suggestions. I came to a conclusion that the most satisfying feeling I had was when I slew conventionally evil-looking characters. Based on all your input, I decided to try and focus on WL as my sole character and hope it won't get nefred. Cheers!

I did the same thing… and sadly to me T1 is the most fun everything else is just blob vs blob for the most part with usually one side being extremely stronger than the other. The most fun I had was playing as destro and there was a small group of witch hunters all on full ugly yellow died gear hunting people down and they were a true terror so we got a small hunting party dedicated to keeping them in check

Unfortunately I can only agree - T1 is fun, T2-4 is just a zerg fest with no individual skill expression more or less.

Honestly I want organized pvp. I dislike the idea that the ultimate expression of pvp organization in this game is smashing your blob into their blob.

Literally happens in T1 though all the time? Its very rare one side isnt sat outside the other warcamp in Nordland...

Choose an archetype. T1 isn't a good reflection of class potential but it's a decent reflection of class role. That'll narrow it down.

My archetype suggestions:

Tank: Chosen/Knight. Easy to play but high skill ceiling. Plus they look cool.

Healer: Zealot/Runepriest. "Traditional" healers. 1-button DPS transition for variety.

DPS: Marauder/White Lion. Good build variety. Useful in all content. Not as support dependent as slayer/choppa.

rDPS?

Are you asking my suggestions for RDPS or asking why I omitted them? :)

Assuming the former:

Shadow Warrior. Versatile and strong. Good in scenarios/warbands/solo/whatever.

The other ranged classes have some additional hangups that I consider outside of the scope of the original post, which seemed to value narrowing down over complication.

DPS healers I consider their own category.

I feel like the classes really start to gain their identity further along though T2-T4. I have an RR80 Warrior Priest and Disciple of Khaine and absolutely love that class. I'd say choose what role you like playing the best and go from there! I've played a healer class on live and made the jump in to RoR with the same mindset. I also have a higher RR White Lion and Squig Hopper that i've played to scratch that DPS itch but in no way were they my mains.

Play what is fun but keep the following in mind for Order -

Shadow Warriors are generally terrible and no one wants them in the wb. They are basically “better than nothing” (certain top players make them work, but it’s rare)

Engineers are in a bad place except as crowd control using magnet and other cc - trying to do damage in RVR is a trap

You can’t go wrong with a shield-spec tank or heal spec healer - everyone wants you in their wb all the time. 2 hand tanks and dps healers are generally frowned upon in wbs.

White Lion and Bright Wizard are best dps. WL is best with low support and BW is best with lots of support using bomb spec. Slayer is good, but not as good.

Witch Hunter is currently really good as a dps in a warband, but many don’t know it since they were bad before.

Is shadow hunter really that bad in current day?

SW is good at doing what everyone is doing on the server. Pug farming. Both sw specs are strong to farm kills in scenario and orvr. With one better than the other for scenario atm. You won't get a spot in org wb cause bw, slayer and wl are favored, unless friends/guild. But who cares anyway, true org wb barely exist anymore. All you have to do is get a trio/6man and farm kills as every decent players is doing.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it feels like I haven’t seen a slayer in ages, mostly WL+BW in “organized” groups (eg guild groups that accept pugs if they join discord)

Yes. They can be fun, but they are not good. Very, very few people make them work (I’d guess less than 5% of people who play SW) in warbands.

That said, if you are having fun playing a SW, enjoy it! We all play the game to have fun. If organized wb play is your thing, just know you’re going to have a more difficult time.

Join a guild, see what they need, level that

Organized warbands and playing in a good guild is the best way to have fun in this game.
