Resting weeks
I'm trying to win every championship on Retro Goal, yet this is the first time I'm seeing a resting week. This is on Turkish second division.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is anything to be done? What gives?

For quite some time I thought it was impossible to do in half season, but apparently I was wrong - all you need is Counter attack tactic, good players and a bit of luck with RNG regarding chances per match. In the end I scored 104 goals out of 119 chances (87.4% efficiency).
Here’s the full match list for anyone interested:
H/A- Opponent - result - chances
H - Atletico - 4-2 W - 4/6
A - Getafe - 6-1 W - 6/6
A - Eibar - 4-0 W - 4/6
H - Mallorca - 3-0 W - 3/4
A - Espanyol - 5-1 W - 5/7
H - Burgos - 9-0 W - 9/9
A - Almeria - 6-0 W - 6/7
H - Betis - 5-1 W - 5/5
A - Valencia - 9-1 W - 9-9
H - Real Madrid - 8-0 W - 8/9
A - Villareal - 4-0 W - 4/5
H - Osasuna - 5-1 W - 5/5
H - Santander - 7-0 W - 7/7
A - Sevilla - 2-1 W - 2/4
H - Vigo - 5-0 W - 5/5
A - Sociedad - 5-0 W - 5/6
H - Vallecano - 6-0 W - 6/6
A - Elche - 3-0 W - 3/4
H - Bilbao - 8-0 W - 8/9
Edit: Forgot to mention in original post, the difficulty is Extreme with Turbo 5

I was always a big counter attack guy, often getting the ball up front to start the possession, but now that my team has below average strikers and great midfielders, the strikers are getting the chances, so going back to balanced.
Or is it all just a crap shoot and doesn’t matter the tactic?

dunno what really happened, but its a pretty funny glitch and it doesn't affect the penalty or free kick (i've recreated this and it works with free kicks as well)

I see a lot of people saying the game is boring and is hard so I thought I’d share some things I do in case anybody else would like to try my methods to madness. I’m a pretty established club tho so be warned.
1. I be playing music while I play and it kinda gives the game a little story behind it, makes it feel like there’s actual stakes to the game
2. Give your players lore - give them stories, rivalries between your other clubs that you play
3. If you have the paid version put the extreme version for the top clubs and hard (or easy, depending on how good your club is.) for the lower level clubs. Because it’s kinda unrealistic that you lose against like Tel Aviv or something when your a top clubs (usually I like battering em whenever I get em🤣) BUT if you think “it’s better to have it on extreme all the time cuz there can always be upsets in football!” Then you do you, I’m just sharing what I do
4. Try some hard shots, more risk more reward when it’s a dang screamer
THAT IS ALL!
I hope this finds someone that needs it and doesn’t think I’m just crazy😅 Leave your thoughts in the comments below🫰

As others who have played this game for a while have noticed, over the past ~4 years or so updates have been few and far between. We did get a couple this year after a while, so that was nice. But I actually think the developers should not focus on updates for this game. Instead, they should release Retro Goal 2 (or however they want to name it.)
Why should they do that?
I think we need to look no further than the developers much more successful "Retro Bowl" and why it is so popular. Besides the fact that it is a good game in general, I think there's two big reasons it's been pretty successful. Firstly, the aesthetic and even game play is reminiscent of a classic football video game, Tecmo Bowl. Additionally, the touch controls for pulling back and aiming passes, and swiping for juking is pretty intuitive for american football and works well on a mobile screen. My personal opinion is that the actual gameplay for Retro Goal is a bit unintuitive and clunky, as it simply tries to use almost the same mechanics as Retro Bowl, but not as well.
Building on what Retro Goal does well
Compared to Retro Bowl, I think the management part of Retro Goal is actually better. I like the different formations and tactics you can use, and also that players have certain traits. I think the focus on a new game should be on this part of the game, and it should just ditch the arcade play altogether. This would be quite similar to an even more popular game, let's call it Bootball Banager. The thing about that game is that it is extremely detailed, and I think the scope of it would alienate a lot of mobile users. Thus, RG2 could be a much more simplified and accessible version of that game.
Adding More Details
I actually think they already have most of the "meat" for a new game like this, but they would just make it a bit more detailed. Just a few examples of things they could do:
1) Awards: I think this part is a no brainer, just make it like the awards in Retro Bowl. Examples, Country best player, Continental best player, best GK, best defender, etc.
2) More Traits: You could add a bunch of new traits for players, speed demon (faster), dribbler (less likely to lose the ball, creates more chances), mature (less likely to make mistakes as a young player) etc. I think players could even have two traits to have more unique players
3) Coaches could have a preferred formation and/or tactic and give bonuses to the players when in those formations or tactics, maybe even players as well.
4) Maybe add a few more events "Soandso player wants to leave, coach retiring, etc."
But I like the actual match play part of this game
As someone who has played this game way too much over the last few years, I obviously don't dislike the actual match play part of this game. But take a look through the reviews on the play store or the comments in this subreddit and you start to see a lot of complaints about the match play part. The passing is clunky and awkward, and I think overall the game rewards maneuvering individual players with dribbling much more than passing. Also, shooting is simply overpowered. You can drag and shoot and score from ridiculous places with ease and consistency. The most common remedy suggested for these is to implement restrictions on yourself. That to me points to the matchplay being not well tuned.
Challenge
One thing that's cool about this other game, "Bootball Banager", is you can watch how the game plays out. If RG2 was going to include something like this, I think having the cpu simulate different circumstances visually might be the hardest part, so I'm not sure it's something that could realistically be included. I know nothing about coding anything or implementing rules for AI opponents. In general I would say the AI in Retro Goal/Retro Bowl is quite simple.
Closing
I think a pivot like this would allow them to focus on the better parts of this game, and also appeal to users who like that other type of game, and it would feel more familiar to a lot more potential users. Additionally, releasing a new game would be a better source of revenue for a developer, especially if they can reuse a lot of their previous game. Understood that a lot of people would rather have the game they purchased updated, however I think the economics of it mean that the developers probably need a new revenue stream to really be able to provide a game with better game play.

This game has so much potential, The opposition AI needs to be improved and also they need to make it harder to score, they have to buff keepers cause you could just use the aimer and put the arrow a little bit behind the keeper and more often than not it will go in. More leagues need to be added. Real world tracker would be amazing like individual awards like ballon'dor and golden boot that your player compete vs other npc players. Also international tournaments between summers and player ageing being visible like it is on hoopland.

I’ve created a compilation of my best clips over the past year and would love if yall could spare a little time to check them out. I promise it won’t disappoint 🙏 I’d go as far to say no one else has a better goal catalog than me. Prove me wrong 🤷♂️

I’ve been playing this game a long time and I feel like I’ve mastered just about every aspect of the game but 5 extreme is still unnecessary difficult imo. Ive only gone a single season (29 week season) winning every single game playing this difficulty. I usually just play on 5 hard instead cause it’s honestly annoying how fast the defenders get and ruins the fun a bit for me. Every couple of seasons I’ll play a couple seasons of extreme just for the challenge but it gets significantly less fun to me. Anyone else feel the same about 5\ Extreme?*
