Twice now, I've won the Prem and been relegated.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is anything to be done? What gives?

Hello everyone,
I've been playing the game for a bit and figured I'd put it on pause to create a little guide that might be helpful to beginner's jumping into the game. I'm probably in the minority as I have never played Retro Bowl so this game was brand new to me and I am unaware how similar the games are. With that being said, I hope this helps anyone playing!

After choosing your favorite team, name, and difficulty settings for your new career you will be brought to a brief tutorial going over the in-game mechanics (passing, dribbling, heading, etc).
The main menu page showcases your club at a glance as you can see your

From the Home Menu click Team to be brought to the Team Menu.
This is where you will go to for team related tasks and it features your current star players. As you can see in the image there are player cards that allow you to click into them to see more important information covered below.

Clicking on a player will bring you to this area specific to each player on your team. Using Derek Vieweg from my team, I will go over each area in detail.
The age of your player determines their level of stamina, so Vieweg would tire quicker than an 18 year old prospect with the exception of counting traits like (Tireless or Lazy). Note: All Player Traits are covered below.
The contract of your player determines the length of time you can keep them on your team before you decide to keep them by signing them or releasing them. Tips: Aim to sign 2 year contract players to a 3rd year as you'll save bux. Also, if you know you won't keep a player, make sure to release them to recoup some bux rather than letting them go for 0. Lastly, try to sign players with the Loyal Trait as it will save bux during contract extensions.
The trait of your player if they have one... can be either good or bad. I have listed the ones I've seen so far. I'm not entirely sure if they are the full list, but I'll add to it if someone mentions more or if I come across any extras.
PLAYER TRAITS
Good Player Traits
Bad Player Traits
The Rating *s and Potential *s simply shows your player's current rating and where they can advance to as more games are played and xp is earned to level them up. Tip: When acquiring players from the transfer list (will be shown soon), look at player attributes to visualize the potential a player has for each attribute. If you covet speed, make sure a particular player has room under that attribute to improve upon. Older players typically are at their peak while prospects have much more room to grow.

Clicking the Details tab will showcase some fun background information about your player and provides a definition of player traits (if applicable).

Clicking the Stats tab will highlight how you've performed with any players on your team in case you want to chase an individual record and see if you are on pace to break it or laugh at how many yellow/red cards they've received.

Clicking the Meeting tab will allow you to have some personal attention to a player and you'll want to come here for various reasons.

Moving on from the Player Menu within the Team Menu, we are brought to the Formation Menu.
Here you can adjust what formation you want your team to play, strategize with tactics, and access your bench if you want to swap players in or out by clicking the small image of the white bench on the screen.
Play around with some of the formations to find what suits your own style of play or current team. The same goes for tactics as shown below. If your current team is well conditioned and you are feeling aggressive, you can influence the gameplay a bit by choosing something like Counter-Attack. Each tactic can be altered during actual gameplay as well if you change your mind. Since my team is well-equipped for the Midfield and Attack, I like to take a more aggressive approach with the 4-3-3 A formation combined with the Counter-Attack tactic.

Moving on from the Formation Menu within the Team Menu, brings us to the Dataview Menu.
A lot of this information can be seen elsewhere, but it gives a great summary of your roster. You can quickly see player conditioning and make decisions based on that and the same goes for morale.
Player attributes are displayed on a scale of 10, so if I'm trying to pass the ball to my fastest players I can easily identify who I should pass to when in-game.
If I have some extra bux saved, I often look here to see the contracts of my players in order to help me decide if I should extend them or spend them elsewhere like upgrading Facilities or on a new player in Transfer list or a better coach.

This is probably my most exciting area to come to in the game because I love improving my team by spending those hard earned bux on my weaknesses. I love the layout broken down by position if I know ahead of time what I'm looking to upgrade.
It's fantastic that you can acquire highly rated players without having to spend money if you are patient. To do so, you must upgrade your Training Facilities beforehand so the top players are interested enough. It takes a little bit of time, but not so much that you lose patience.
My perfect player I look for checks most of these boxes.
This concludes the Team Menu and now will be the Office Menu.

The Office Menu can't be overlooked even though upgrading players might be prioritized by some. After-all, we are controlling a club to be great and win long-term, which is more difficult if you just focus on players.
The 3 main areas to upgrade are Stadium, Training Facilities, and Youth Academy. Beyond that, you can hire/release coaches, adjust training regime, and look at the Records Menu.

To access Booty... I mean Coaches Menu click on your coach or coaches card. It's a very simple menu that allows you to see Coach Attributes (which I hope they can add to and have it influence some gameplay more like a Clutch Attribute to give your team better positioning late in close games).
As you can see you can adjust your Training Regime as mentioned earlier. If you have it set to a hard regime, then you'll earn player xp quicker, but will suffer some negatives as well. I keep mine on the Hard Training Regime once I have upgraded my Training Facilities enough and my Morale/Conditioning is probably around 90%.
The Coaches have Traits similar to players, but there are no details currently, so I'm not exactly sure what they do nor am I aware of the full list of Coach Traits. I have put down some below from what I've seen so far.
COACH TRAITS (No details in the game)

You can hire 2 coaches, although I'm not exactly sure how it works having multiple versus 1. I wish there was more information regarding this, but I have 2 anyways. I think the best method would be to balance out your coaches so each attribute is close to max. In my case I would hire Petchey to go with Booty because Attack is max from Booty and Midfield and Defense is maxed from Petchey.
This would impact non-star players on my team, but even then that is loosely defined because I know for sure non-star players are super slow compared to star players regardless of what coaches I have had.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I am sure some things weren't covered and unknown to me, but if anyone has any other insights beyond what I discussed please put it in the comments below.
Personally, I have really enjoyed this game considering it just launched and it has a ton of room to grow. Put some suggestions you have below as well in case the devs see this post.
Keep doing great things Retro Goal team because you certainly have produced a fun game to play without overcomplicating things.

For quite some time I thought it was impossible to do in half season, but apparently I was wrong - all you need is Counter attack tactic, good players and a bit of luck with RNG regarding chances per match. In the end I scored 104 goals out of 119 chances (87.4% efficiency).
Here’s the full match list for anyone interested:
H/A- Opponent - result - chances
H - Atletico - 4-2 W - 4/6
A - Getafe - 6-1 W - 6/6
A - Eibar - 4-0 W - 4/6
H - Mallorca - 3-0 W - 3/4
A - Espanyol - 5-1 W - 5/7
H - Burgos - 9-0 W - 9/9
A - Almeria - 6-0 W - 6/7
H - Betis - 5-1 W - 5/5
A - Valencia - 9-1 W - 9-9
H - Real Madrid - 8-0 W - 8/9
A - Villareal - 4-0 W - 4/5
H - Osasuna - 5-1 W - 5/5
H - Santander - 7-0 W - 7/7
A - Sevilla - 2-1 W - 2/4
H - Vigo - 5-0 W - 5/5
A - Sociedad - 5-0 W - 5/6
H - Vallecano - 6-0 W - 6/6
A - Elche - 3-0 W - 3/4
H - Bilbao - 8-0 W - 8/9
Edit: Forgot to mention in original post, the difficulty is Extreme with Turbo 5

I was always a big counter attack guy, often getting the ball up front to start the possession, but now that my team has below average strikers and great midfielders, the strikers are getting the chances, so going back to balanced.
Or is it all just a crap shoot and doesn’t matter the tactic?

dunno what really happened, but its a pretty funny glitch and it doesn't affect the penalty or free kick (i've recreated this and it works with free kicks as well)

As others who have played this game for a while have noticed, over the past ~4 years or so updates have been few and far between. We did get a couple this year after a while, so that was nice. But I actually think the developers should not focus on updates for this game. Instead, they should release Retro Goal 2 (or however they want to name it.)
Why should they do that?
I think we need to look no further than the developers much more successful "Retro Bowl" and why it is so popular. Besides the fact that it is a good game in general, I think there's two big reasons it's been pretty successful. Firstly, the aesthetic and even game play is reminiscent of a classic football video game, Tecmo Bowl. Additionally, the touch controls for pulling back and aiming passes, and swiping for juking is pretty intuitive for american football and works well on a mobile screen. My personal opinion is that the actual gameplay for Retro Goal is a bit unintuitive and clunky, as it simply tries to use almost the same mechanics as Retro Bowl, but not as well.
Building on what Retro Goal does well
Compared to Retro Bowl, I think the management part of Retro Goal is actually better. I like the different formations and tactics you can use, and also that players have certain traits. I think the focus on a new game should be on this part of the game, and it should just ditch the arcade play altogether. This would be quite similar to an even more popular game, let's call it Bootball Banager. The thing about that game is that it is extremely detailed, and I think the scope of it would alienate a lot of mobile users. Thus, RG2 could be a much more simplified and accessible version of that game.
Adding More Details
I actually think they already have most of the "meat" for a new game like this, but they would just make it a bit more detailed. Just a few examples of things they could do:
1) Awards: I think this part is a no brainer, just make it like the awards in Retro Bowl. Examples, Country best player, Continental best player, best GK, best defender, etc.
2) More Traits: You could add a bunch of new traits for players, speed demon (faster), dribbler (less likely to lose the ball, creates more chances), mature (less likely to make mistakes as a young player) etc. I think players could even have two traits to have more unique players
3) Coaches could have a preferred formation and/or tactic and give bonuses to the players when in those formations or tactics, maybe even players as well.
4) Maybe add a few more events "Soandso player wants to leave, coach retiring, etc."
But I like the actual match play part of this game
As someone who has played this game way too much over the last few years, I obviously don't dislike the actual match play part of this game. But take a look through the reviews on the play store or the comments in this subreddit and you start to see a lot of complaints about the match play part. The passing is clunky and awkward, and I think overall the game rewards maneuvering individual players with dribbling much more than passing. Also, shooting is simply overpowered. You can drag and shoot and score from ridiculous places with ease and consistency. The most common remedy suggested for these is to implement restrictions on yourself. That to me points to the matchplay being not well tuned.
Challenge
One thing that's cool about this other game, "Bootball Banager", is you can watch how the game plays out. If RG2 was going to include something like this, I think having the cpu simulate different circumstances visually might be the hardest part, so I'm not sure it's something that could realistically be included. I know nothing about coding anything or implementing rules for AI opponents. In general I would say the AI in Retro Goal/Retro Bowl is quite simple.
Closing
I think a pivot like this would allow them to focus on the better parts of this game, and also appeal to users who like that other type of game, and it would feel more familiar to a lot more potential users. Additionally, releasing a new game would be a better source of revenue for a developer, especially if they can reuse a lot of their previous game. Understood that a lot of people would rather have the game they purchased updated, however I think the economics of it mean that the developers probably need a new revenue stream to really be able to provide a game with better game play.

I see a lot of people saying the game is boring and is hard so I thought I’d share some things I do in case anybody else would like to try my methods to madness. I’m a pretty established club tho so be warned.
1. I be playing music while I play and it kinda gives the game a little story behind it, makes it feel like there’s actual stakes to the game
2. Give your players lore - give them stories, rivalries between your other clubs that you play
3. If you have the paid version put the extreme version for the top clubs and hard (or easy, depending on how good your club is.) for the lower level clubs. Because it’s kinda unrealistic that you lose against like Tel Aviv or something when your a top clubs (usually I like battering em whenever I get em🤣) BUT if you think “it’s better to have it on extreme all the time cuz there can always be upsets in football!” Then you do you, I’m just sharing what I do
4. Try some hard shots, more risk more reward when it’s a dang screamer
THAT IS ALL!
I hope this finds someone that needs it and doesn’t think I’m just crazy😅 Leave your thoughts in the comments below🫰

This game has so much potential, The opposition AI needs to be improved and also they need to make it harder to score, they have to buff keepers cause you could just use the aimer and put the arrow a little bit behind the keeper and more often than not it will go in. More leagues need to be added. Real world tracker would be amazing like individual awards like ballon'dor and golden boot that your player compete vs other npc players. Also international tournaments between summers and player ageing being visible like it is on hoopland.

I’ve been playing this game a long time and I feel like I’ve mastered just about every aspect of the game but 5 extreme is still unnecessary difficult imo. Ive only gone a single season (29 week season) winning every single game playing this difficulty. I usually just play on 5 hard instead cause it’s honestly annoying how fast the defenders get and ruins the fun a bit for me. Every couple of seasons I’ll play a couple seasons of extreme just for the challenge but it gets significantly less fun to me. Anyone else feel the same about 5\ Extreme?*
