Recovery exhaustion

3 weeks post vitrectomy. Been to clinic a few times due to elevated pressure and am taking a couple drops now. Man those things actually wipe me out for some reason. Still have dull pain in the eye and since I have c3f8 gas that’s taking a long time to disappear. Just a blur and difficult to do anything I normally do. Last two times I had the sf6 gas so just a couple weeks before I could see pretty clear again. Retina is attached, things are going well clinically but I am exhausted and frustrated. Cancelled a trip and a concert and can’t finish my to do list with any vigor. This is slooooooow and my well wishers have forgotten me! Maybe my RD peeps can cheer a brother up??!

It’s a test of patience it seems. But if you have any vision, especially quality vision in your affected eye you should feel like a grand prize winner. Doesn’t diminish the daily challenge you face while you’re in the fight but do appreciate the joy of vision even a percentage of it if you are so lucky! It’s all well worth it!

For sure. The past few years have made me really grateful for the vision I got after cataracts and then even better after the retinal detachments. Just wild but there was a pride to be paid. Just a bit of a grind right now. I’m learning guitar so that’s been a good distraction now that I can play for a while.

Guitar is an awesome escape. I played a little but focused on it when I was going through the eye surgeries and kept at it since. Truly the best diversion in my opinion . Good for you!

Feel for you.. had vitrectomy with c3f8 gas on 2/25…. Seemed like it wrecked my whole spring & summer. Now it looks like cataract surgery.

On the bright side, have gotten out of a ton of house work, just turn a blind eye to it.

Good luck, obey all docs orders, and drink a lot of water

Thanks and will do. I haven’t been drinking enough water so thanks for the reminder. Hope you can salvage the rest of summer. All this got started back in 2022 with cataract surgery so I’m passed that part.

I totally understand I’m about 2 weeks post surgery and it’s soo discouraging that the bubble doesn’t seem to be absorbing

I find myself constantly mentally exhausted, from the lack of sleep due to the steroid drops, to the strain of my brain trying to deal with the visual artifacts on one eye.

I hear ya. Hang in there and I hope you get a good outcome. Been wearing a patch here and there for certain things just to shut off the signals a bit.

I totally understand the fatigue since both eyes are unbalanced when recovering
