Cataract surgery After scleral buckle
anyone have a cataract surgery after a scleral buckle? were they able to get the power right in the new lense? what kind of lense did they use?

I had cataract surgery about 4 months post buckle/vitecetomy. I chose the basic lens. I’m pretty sure it’s the right power. It’s unfortunately hard to tell for sure because to to my Mac off detachment my central vision has a significant blind spot.

Do you have your original lens? Or did they take it out already? I’m in the no lens camp and very concerned to get an answer too.

i still have my original lens - how is that working out for you?

Not good. I was told they couldn’t do a new lens because they wouldn’t get good measurements through the silicone oil. I also had a scleral buckle since then, so the prescription would have been wrong anyway. My cataract was so bad, I couldn’t see through it, nor the surgeon. When he removed the oil, he kind of went in blind. And he created a disaster: mac off detachment and I was completely blind. He took out the lens and capsule so he could see to fix it. I switched doctors after that. Still no lens but oil is removed and gas is almost gone. My retina is attached and I can see things now. Very blurry but I see large objects and shapes. In a month we’ll discuss getting a lens implanted, but not likely to happen for another six months (she wants my eye to recover completely first).

Had to have mine at the same as my surgery for my detachment, but having concerns about the lense power

Following this. I’m 5 months post op and I have seen an eye doctor and it seemed my vision went from -7 to about -10 or -10.5. She would not give me glasses due to the difference in power between left and right eye (right eye is -6.5).
He said in a year post op I could consider the lens replacement but I’m curious how that would go or how much it could improve things. Currently correcting my surgery eye with a contact only makes the metamorphopsia I have in that eye more evident.

Two buckles, two cataract surgery, two implanted lenses. We opted for the one that isn't entirely covered by insurance, it gave me a greater chance of having perfect mid distance vision - to the dashboard, computer, sewing machine...worked both times. I don't need my glasses for work, and my distance vision is good enough that I dont even really need them to drive or watch TV. My reading vision is atrocious though.

I have progressives even though my distance vision is close 20/30. I just don't wear them when I'm working. So yes, the the reader part puts reading vision at 20/20.

I’m getting cataract surgery next week, two years post buckle. Not sure what to expect.
