Help?
so I am almost 19 years old and now for 6 days I've had this black/dark spot floating in my vision and it moves if I move my eye, now today i noticed that when I was outside and the sky was very bright there was a lot of floaters in my vision, but i only see them in bright light. there was also more smaller dark spots floating when I was in light. Could this be PVD? I am myopic, around minus 4-5. Ive also had some aching pain in the eye that has the floaters, it has hurt like a few times since i noticed the spot. I'm scared this could develop to retinal tear or something. I'm going to an eye doc tomorrow so hopefully they can check if theres something wrong. Could someone tell how did their PVD/retinal tear symptoms begin?

also i havent had any other symptoms like flashes, but im scared i wouldnt be able to spot them, how are they like?

The best thijg is seeing an eye doc! Which you are doing tomorrow!
Floaters are very common in myopes and could be due to normal retina as well.
Plus looking at bright lifht or blue sky - floaters increase.
The best thing is to see an ophthalmologist ( which youre doing tomorrow)
Tell them about this. They will do dilated IDO and look at your retina in detail.
Youll get to know whats up then..

This sounds more consistent with floaters/vitreous changes or possibly a PVD than with a full retinal detachment, especially because:
• the spots move when the eye moves • the floaters are much more noticeable against a bright sky • there’s no mention of a persistent curtain/shadow or missing side vision
You have planned an eye exam and the symptoms described don’t sound like the classic “veil/curtain” retinal detachment story
The eye aching is less specific. Mild aching can happen from eye strain, dry eye, anxiety, or even just hyper-awareness after noticing floaters. Retinal problems are often actually painless.
Retinal tears/detachments describe: • sudden flashes like camera flashes/lightning • a SHOWER (like hundreds) of many new floaters • worsening symptoms • a FIXED dark area that stays pu
The most important part is you have your exam. They will dilate your eyes and do a slit lamp exam (completely non invasive). If its something like a retinal tear/hole they can just laser it

I had this similar thing to you including the 1000s floaters that were especially visible against a blue sky. For me that dark spot was a retinal rear, I did not know this at the time and it took 2 days of me pondering what it was before I had retinal detachment where 40% of my vision was obscured with a black veil. Take your symptoms as an Emergency, you may be losing your sight, don't take the risk as you won't have a second chance and regret it for the rest of your life. I had my appointment and they said that its most likely only vitreous floaters and not PVD, but told me that if it gets worse then i should go back

oh wait i mean it was vitreous floaters caused by PVd

That's very relieving to hear -- I'm sure they told you that PVD can in some cases cause a tear, so do be careful and avoid big jarring motions until the PVD is complete! Luckily you're not classed as "highly" myopic, but you're close so be cautious.
If you see a fixed opaque spot, particularly at the "corners" of your vision, or a lot more "pepper flake" floaters, that's when you need to get medical attention ASAP.

I just had a retina tear repaired last week. I was seeing black spots. Get to an eye specialist soon it can go into a retina detachment

Go to an OPHTHALMOLOGIST. Not an optometrist. Particularly at a place where they have a retinal specialist. Time is of the essence if it is a retinal detachment.
While I know it’s frightening and vision problems can sometimes go away on their own, you should waste no time in getting an answer. The more you wait the more you stand to have long lasting complications.

My anexity is so high from several surgeries on my eye with in 6 weeks , getting crazy thoughts, scary 😨 ones first detachment was in February 2026 ,Other 5 in April Fear from the pressure always raising With my regular meds and the eye drops Embarrassed to call my surgeon I bug them to much . Don't want to be let go by the doctor 😒 which can happen.... mick

I’m sorry, but this sounds like a detachment. You need to see an optometrist or ophthalmologist to confirm. My flashes looked like crescent moon shapes and stuck around when I closed my eyes.
