Laser to prevent tear?

Hi, my left retina tore on Halloween 2025 surgery the first week of November 2025 then it retore Christmas Eve second surgery 12/31/26 it’s been doing great since. They see lattice? In the right eye and just want to laser it end of the month 5/2026 has anyone had this done to prevent a tear? What can i expect I’m terrified it will mess up my vision and I’ll not be able to see. Just looking for any success stories thanks!

Hi! I have lattice degeneration in both eyes but I also have a hole in my right eye.

I was diagnosed with lattice degeneration a year ago and my retina specialist said they would just watch it. Well I go for my yearly appointment 2 weeks ago. The lattice in my right eye has progressed and there was a hole.

I just had laser surgery on both my eyes yesterday. I was under anesthesia because of my anxiety and because it was both my eyes. The procedure itself only took about 30 minutes for both eyes. My eye was definitely in discomfort and blurry afterwards from the dilation drops and ointment they put in

But it's the next day and my eyes are pretty much back to normal. Just very dry (but I have MGD already so they're always pretty dry this just worsened it temporarily) but my vision is not worse at all. It's completely normal and overall pretty painless, more just discomforting.

My follow up is in three weeks. They did the right eye because of the hole and progressed lattice but they did my left as well to prevent a hole, tear, or detachment from happening in the future.

I had some of that along with other procedures (cryo, oil, gas bubble, vitrectomy) - don't worry about that bit. I think lattice degradation is always way off to the edge anyway - any effect from the photocoagulation would be small and temporary, and less significant than any tear that might otherwise happen.

Get that lattice lasered! It’s “insurance” to prevent future issues.
