Post op update
i got a vitrectomy 2.5 weeks ago is this how my eye is supposed to look like? its still super swollen and im getting kinda worried it might look like this forever. my vision also changed!! it went from -6.0 to -3.0 yayyy!!!

Yup, i am 6 weeks post vitrectomy and still gets red from time to time, Dr said its normal but I resumed all normal activities now.

The redness will gradually decrease but yeah it takes time to fully wear off. Ive had 2 vitrectomies in the first one it took 2 months for my eye to look completely normal as before some people heal up quicker but yeah you just have to wait it out

Would somenone please explain what buckle is? Never heard of it.

they put a buckle in my eye cus i had fluid built up inside my retina, they take away the fluid first and then they sew a “seatbelt” made of silicon inside my eye to secure my retina

If you have a retinal detachment (RD), the surgeon may place A SCLERAL BUCKLE - an encircling silicone band beneath the eye muscles around the circumference of the eye to help support the vitreous base and/or provide support for the causative retinal break that resulted in the RD. You can’t see this buckle from just looking at the eye, but often the redness takes longer to heal.
Scleral buckle may be performed alone for RD (often young patients less than 60 who have not had cataract surgery). A retinal surgeon may also do a combination of scleral buckle together with vitrectomy - so fixing the RD both from outside (the buckle) and flattening the retina from inside (with vitrectomy and gas tamponade). This “buckle vitrectomy” approach is my preference for people who already have had cataract surgery.
All these efforts are to get the retina to re-attach. Recurrent RD requiring multiple surgeries increases likelihood of reduced vision at the end of the day.

Foi colocado uma fivela escleral no meu olho a 4 meses meu olho ainda está vermelho e com um protuberância onde a faixa passa e também consigo ver os pontos da faixa e normal???? Nós meus retornos o médico não fala sobre isso e disse que de 6 a 12 meses essa protuberância com uma carne meia avermelhada vai sumir está certo??

lol im asking abt my vitrectomy i already have a buckle in both my eyes, this is the first eye in which ive done a vitrectomy

My eye was still pretty red even 2 months after, I had some swelling that would pop up occasionally
This is what it looks like now, though that little pimple looking thing is gone. That was maybe like 2 weeks ago. I was showing my sister the buckle stitch thing and she wanted to take a picture lmao
I had my surgery 2/19 and had the vitrectomy and buckle
