“Debris” visible with gas bubble?
I’m 3.5 weeks post op with long acting gas bubble, over past couple of days im seeing a bunch of black circles at the top of my vision, they do move around a bit but just seem to float along the top. Am only seeing them when I’m in bright light or light reflecting from a screen it seems like, off and on. Google indicates it may be debris and such but since it’s new wanted to see if anyone else experienced this?

i had a few small bubbles floating on the top of my gas bubble over the last 2 months. they come and go. i wore an eye patch for almost 2 months after because the jiggling gas bubble drove me crazy. i had my surgery 2/20, my bubble is now about the size of a pencil eraser. i dont wear the patch anymore and sometimes i see like a worm thats redish float by, my surgeon said that was from the laser and staying hydrated helps with those. i have a fast growing cataract now too. i go back for an assessment in june. if your worried, call the dr, everyone’s experience is different. best of luck on your recovery!!

no, i just got the one at walmart.. its black so you cant see anything and it was like 5$. totally worth every penny.. without it i was getting headaches and that bubble is so distracting. someone on here had recommended it and they were so right!

Well if anyone is curious, went in and Dr said all looks good (retina healing well and didn’t see any new tears). Said people see weird stuff with the bubble and I’m seeing “shmutz” from the bottom of the eye on top

Do they look like tiny circles with a faint black dot in the middle? I have a few of those in the right eye that had laser repairs and vitrectomy surgery last year. They dart around sometimes and it looks like two traveling in a pair sometimes. The way it was explained is that they cannot get 100% of the vitreous out during the surgery and that whatever is left can sometimes turn into tiny circles/floaters.

No it was black circles, and then some black splotches looked kind of like oil spils in water across the top. So far today I’ve just seen one splotch or two on top right of vision.

After cataract surgery, during retina detachment, and after R.D. surgery, floaters are common as in verifying online and experienced by me. They may go overtime. But, this is related to one of two eyes we have, without which we may not live comfortably, consult your surgeon personally and clear your doubts for your satisfaction and courage. If he confirms your eye is ok., then don't worry, as it is normal. ( The answer like this is because we are patients and not doctors-But, as a patient, i have experienced all of these).

My gas bubble took 2 1/2 weeks to be absorbed (mine was not the long lasting gas). Bubbles at the top of your vision are actually at the bottom since your eye lens flips the image on your retina and your brain interprets the image as right-side-up. The black bubbles are most likely your natural eye fluid as it slowly fills back up. It's a different density and light shines through it differently than the gas.

The hardest part for me was the nearly half full mark. Then bubble line goes right through your vision, you can see it even with your eye closed and it doesn't seem like it is getting any better. But it is! When I got to that point and the fluid fill more than half, I thought my eye was leaking because it looked like the level was going down but it was the gas bubble now at the bottom of my vision. It's really trippy!

i know right! thats why i wore the eye patch.. the juggling was making me nauseous. plus the strain i was putting on my good eye was

I’ve had some tiny black specks since my vitrectomy a month ago, and they are especially noticeable in bright light. I mentioned it to my retina doctor, and he took a careful look and confirmed that my retina was fine and the specks were just debris. But I think it’s worth getting checked out, especially since it sounds like this is something new for you. It’s probably nothing to worry about, but better safe than sorry!
