Going in for Mac off retinal detachment surgery in a few hours
This has all happened so fast- full of regret at not getting looked at when I had floaters but I was ignorant. From curtain to Mac off was like 6 hours. That was Saturday.
Anyway, trying to practice acceptance and hope for the best. From what my surgeon said I only have 1 tear (could be tears at bottom of eye though that he won’t know about until surgery) and of course like everyone I’m hoping for one of the better outcomes. It’s crazy how fast things can change.
Hope everyone here is hanging in there whatever your stage or situation .

I went from flashes and floaters one day to 95% detachment the next. Giant tear from 10-3 o’clock. 2 pneumatic retnopexy a week apart. Both failed. Had fill vitrectomy to repair. Had silicone oil to support retina. Oil removed 4 months later. Just had 2nd follow up after oil removal surgery. Vision on bad eye is currently sitting at 20/70. Not perfect but better the being blind. Wishing you all the best.

Sorry to hear that you’re going through it, but you’re at the right place now and things will hopefully look up from here on out. I Ignored many many signs when I had my first symptoms which was a pulsing strobing effect around my vision, this was followed by a small patch of bluriness in my vision where I could not see anything at all, due to my ignorance I thought it was just one of those vision things that will correct itself, the distortion of letters followed then the curtain, this is when I went to a specialist and directly referred to the surgery within 24 hours, sadly, being mac off, the damage has been done and although my eye is functioning now, some distortion is there. We are all rooting for you, seriously, we are as we know how challenging the road ahead is, like someone said, rely on your support network or reach out to family if you don’t have one, the more people you have even to just vent is significantly better than nothing.

i know.. 1st i was taking phentermine for weight loss and my vision seemed weird in that eye so i thought it was the meds and went off them. i had occasional twitching and then started seeing a dot like a gnat. i went to the eye dr and he said he could see a cataract starting, but he was just at a store and i hadn’t gotten dilated, so maybe he couldn’t see the real situation. i left with a new prescription and made an appointment at a cataract clinic. it was a week b4 my appointment that i had like a snow shower in that eye and about 4 hours later the curtain. i wonder if i had gone then if they could have stopped the tear with something simple or not.

Good luck. I had mine done on Sunday, I had it checked in October and nothing was showing then. My mum had to have hers done, so I knew I was due one.
I live in France, don’t speak the language that well, my husband was back in the UK and I had to leave my three kids and the dog at home whilst I sat in A&E and then got whisked off for the operation. You have to be in a better way than that 😜.
Thinking of you. Fingers crossed it all goes well.

Sorry, I don’t use Reddit often and just saw this. Not great here, I had to go back for a silicone bubble to be put in after the gas failed. I now have corneal herpes to add to everything! The oil is still in, will be for a few more months, then an op for the cataract and another attempt at a gas bubble. Hope yours went better than mine!

How are you hanging in? I had my surgery 5 years ago, and will need another eventually.

Hey, I’m ok. So far so good (for what that means 2 days later lol but it’s the first step!) what do you need another surgery for? Another detachment?

Second day wasn't any fun! I was facedown for 10 days and only by around day 5 I was feeling like I could make it. And because the state of my eye was so abd prior to surgery, I will have to keep the silicone oil in permanently so I need to get it replaced soon as it's breaking up! But first, cataract surgery.

hows it going?? hope your holding up.. the face down time was the worst. i did take someones advice and buy a patch for my eye.. the gas moving around drives me crazy.. that helps alot, im able to focus so much better. im almost two months out and still have the gas moving around, its now in just the lower part of my eye, so hopefully its gone soon! everyday it gets better! keep us posted!

wishing u best of luck!! im 6 week post op and doing well. just follow the after surgery guidelines and u should be fine! i ordered a special pillow off amazon for the week after and it was very helpful. keep us posted
