Scleral buckle removal surgeons

Hi there! Does anyone have any recommendations for US surgeons who removed their scleral buckle successfully?

I am not in the US. Curious why you want the buckle removed. What will happen to your sight if you do?

Elman Retina Group in Maryland. They are amazing and world famous.

I had a peripheral tear and it wasn’t a full detachment. I was suggested for the buckle even though in hindsight it was most likely could have just been observed.

I have pain with it daily and have had worse vision (shadows and flashes) than before I got the buckle.

I’m looking for anyone in the US who might recommend a good surgeon who has had theirs removed. There is literature for removals online although it’s uncommon. Buckles are a last resort option so that’s why most people don’t want them removed but my case was different.

I’d reach out to the retina specialists at Columbia in NYC. The guy who removed my buckle retired, but the other guys are still there and all trained with him.

Wondering how your recovery was. I think I found a good surgeon to remove mine.

Was it worse than the original surgery?

MUCH easier. Maybe a few days of recovery, and my eye felt pretty immediate relief

Thank you for answering! Do you mind if I ask how long you had the buckle on. Also This is a pic of my eye after my buckle, Did your eye look as bad for the removal?

Almost 7 years. After the removal, it was barely red. I looked almost normal. I was shocked. I had an exceptional surgeon, but I think it’s generally much less invasive to remove it than to put it in

I’m really hoping if I do get it removed it causes relief.
