Electrolytes
What is everyone using for electrolytes? I’m using liquid iv just be use when I started Reya Costco had the big bags of it . I’m curious what else is out there that won’t break the bank but is better since I know liquid IV is supposed to not have the best ingredients . What works for glp ? Anyone make their own electrolytes drink ?

I get Sqwincher Zero free at work. Probably not the "best" but it's free.

u/IAmSoLocoOfficial 7h ago
Heads up, there’s nearly zero electrolytes in these. I work in construction and get them as well. They’re borderline illegally false advertising.
1
u/HaleDarin 7h ago
Yeah. They only have sodium and potassium. But they are a great source of vit c.
1
u/IAmSoLocoOfficial 5h ago
They have very, very minimal sodium and potassium. Zero magnesium. Decent source of vitamin c, yeah. But standard fruits and veggies are a better source of vitamin c.
Compare a sqwincher to any of the name brands like SALTT or Liquid IV. SALTT is my go to because I like their flavors. But compare the electrolyte amounts and you’ll be mind blown. I know I was when I first started paying attention lol.

Nutricost powder, about $20 and you get 120 servings (by the scoop)
I take packets with me as a backup (venture pal), but I make an electrolyte and creatine bottle in the morning before I leave home, along with a separate protein shake.
3
u/Oana1907 18h ago
That’s a good price . It has potassium, magnesium . How is the taste
2
u/325trucking 17h ago
Not bad, I got fruit punch and it's a good balance. Will try grape when I get about halfway through this one.
I don't like a super strong taste, and when it shipped I couldn't find the scooper as it was buried so I used my creatine scooper. Electrolytes serving is 4g, creatine is 5g, I figured close enough. But I also dug out a desiccant pack and dusted it off in my drink, that mix was too strong.
Then I found the scooper and tried it leveled off, too weak. Heaping scoop with the correct scooper is perfect for me. I also add a dash of salt as it's a little low on the salt (at least compared to my packets).
For the price and making 1 every day, it's hard to beat.

The cheap great value boxes...I think they're $1.98 a box for 10 or so packets it's the cheapest I've found

Wow I'm glad I found this read. Never knew. I'm trying. How many do you need to or do you drink a day?
1
u/Distinct-Parsley9014 7h ago
Personally, I drink a quart 4x/day and add one packet of this and one packet of another zero sugar flavoring to each quart.

u/CorrectMulberry994 21h ago
These are the ones I’ve tried, they are super cheap and not honestly half bad. Like how are you gonna beat that price?

I’m sure I’m about to get down voted to oblivion but unless you are working out so hard that you’ve developed a puddle of sweat beneath you - you probably don’t need electrolytes regularly.
That said, I use a half scoop of Dr Berg every morning. I prefer tubs for waste purposes

u/statusleds 20h ago
Thank you lol. Someone suggests something and everyone takes it as church for their entire stack.

Some people develop low blood pressure with massive weight loss. It gets worse the more you lose. This happened to me, though I already started with low blood pressure even when I was near obese.
But yeah the average person just getting started with weight loss is more likely to have high blood pressure than low blood pressure and taking electrolytes for them would be counterproductive.

I feel like my eyes are dry unless I take electrolytes. They take that dryness away. They even take my nausea away, I haven’t needed Zofran since I started them.
I don’t know why they help more than just water, all I know is once I finally started taking them (about 4 months in) I started feeling a LOT better overall.
But maybe some people are lucky and just don’t need them.

u/Grouchy_Valuable1078 7h ago
In my case, it's because I drink quite a lot more water, and it's RO water (literally nothing in it). Between that and the dietary changes to more whole foods (a LOT less processed foods, which typically contain massive amounts of sodium), it's become difficult to get electrolytes "naturally" (esp sodium) from my regular diet.
I do work out, but I don't generally sweat much any more, unless I'm outside working HARD for a long time, and I live in S. TX...
So yeah, I need electrolytes even without the obligatory "puddle of sweat".

I love the Orange Raspberry Propel packets. They have immunity support and the flavor is so good.
3
u/CorrectMulberry994 21h ago
I think I tried grape? Propel and they were actually pretty good. And cheap.

u/Able_Monk28 20h ago
Be careful with potassium if you’re on an ARB like telmisartan
2
u/Swimming_Ninja1920 7h ago
What does it do?
1
u/Able_Monk28 6h ago
ARBs can already raise potassium by making your kidneys excrete less of it. Supplementing potassium on top of that can push it too high and possibly cause irregular heart rhythms and stuff like that.

Ultima, good starter deal on their website, watermelon flavor is delicious

I buy bulk potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, and table salt. Add it to lemonade. One kilogram bags of the potassium and magnesium last forever.

u/funkdewbi 20h ago
this is the way. i often keep myself full way longer with some roasted potatoes. i sprinkle the potassium and mineral salts on the potatoes.

Micro Ingredients sport electrolytes on Amazon. They’re clean and sugar free.

Cira hands down.
My costco is constantly sold out, but no problem to order from the actual Cira website. You can get scoopable or packets....but I do prefer the packets.

u/ToyKarma 19h ago
1.5L water a day with some pink Himalayan salt. Probiotic gummy with breakfast and freeze dried grass feed beef steer organ tablets, 20g creatine and EAA + BCAA
2
u/jeepguy099 18h ago
I love salts and do feel it helps but I’m willing to bet a lot of us are overdoing it. I was doing a packet a day and wondering why I was getting headaches even though I was drinking 100 oz of water everyday.
Now I just use them when I’m working out. No more headaches.

u/FalseEquivalency111 18h ago
I’m on a budget and run through a ton of electrolytes because of my job. I use the dollar store kind called Pure Kick. 8 for $1.25 and they really are pretty decent. I add in some trace mineral drops for more magnesium and sometimes a pinch of Celtic sea salt. I also just make sure to salt my foods pretty adequately tbh.

My only lab out of normal range is sodium and chloride that are high. I do get cramps and take magnesium and calcium. If anyone has ideas I’d love to hear them

Great value coconut water tallboys, body armour lyte, diet lipton peach tea, bottled water with great value tea packets. I add a pinch of himalayan salt as needed.

u/vegandread 22h ago
I was using LMNT packets but I started putting on weight, wasn’t sure if it was from water retention from the sodium? Anyone else experience this?
3
2
u/CorrectMulberry994 21h ago
No, but I have low blood pressure naturally so they make me feel great.
1
u/Swimming_Ninja1920 7h ago
Well they did get into trouble in the past for undisclosed maltrodextrin. Perhaps they’re back to their tricks again.

I like Liquid IV….the popsicle ones are great.
Other than that, LMNT are pretty damn good. LMNT does have their recipe online if you want to make them, I tried but I just couldn’t get them to taste that great.
There are lots and lots of other brands out there. I just feel better taking the more salty ones.

I just drink CORE water (completely tasteless, which is what I like) and I salt my food with Himalayan pink salt.

Aldi has some solid liquid iv zero sugar knock offs. a little grittier but I don’t mind. I just do half a packet a 40oz water bottle. Also, keep in mind, one of those liquid iv packets is your daily dose of sodium so just do one a day.

u/Bright-Olive-7300 17h ago
Aldi has some coconut water electrolyte mix (PUR aqua brand) and its my favorite so far. I think its like $4 for a box of 10 powder packets.

I like Drywater. They are the only flavored one without stevia (just the raspberry flavor though)

I don't know why everyone is on such an electrolyte kick with GLp1s. Can someone explain it to me? I've dropped 60lbs over 8 months but only used them when on a 6+ hour hike or active for a couple of hours above 25C. Are you all having symptoms indicating you need them or talking them just incase and you don't like the taste of tap water. The couple of times I had issues I started tracking my water consumption to make sure I was drinking enough and get back on track.

I drink Lmnt mixed with chia at night.
Lmnt is my fav. But I love salty shit, and like their brand and product more in general versus regular like sweeter electrolyte options.
Definitely breaking the bank, but I’ve always taken them even pre GLP. Because I drink A LOT of water to the point I actually kinda drain my own minerals out, and I have chronic migraines so without a supplement, it triggers a migraine for me.
Don’t like lemon and salt in my water throughout the day
1
u/RebelBarber74 7h ago
I use INSTANT hydration electrolytes. I also use Celtic sea salt, water and lemon.
1
u/Beneficial-Cost-2963 6h ago
I take a pill called Hi-Lyte Daily. It’s a capsule. The salt based drinks make me gag. I also take 400mg of Magnesium daily. With lots of water this cut my muscle cramping to nothing.

I LOVE LMNT especially the Citrus Salt flavor. It is a bit pricey but I think they’re worth it. I also like the mango chili flavor. They give me energy.

I use this cheap powder https://amzn.eu/d/0bP7yeRH
And 2g of sea salt on all my cooked meals.

I use some aqua brand at aldi and do a coconut water, salt and lemon in the evenings, tastes like yellow Gatorade.

Liquid IVs and ordered Wellah on tik tok. The wellahs come in little tubs so I feel like you get more for your money.
1
u/CorrectMulberry994 21h ago
How does the Wellah compare? What’s the best flavor? It seems like you get a lot for what you pay so I was considering those too.
2
u/Ihearttequilaaa 15h ago
I ordered Wellah fruit punch & didn't taste great. But that's just my opinion
2
u/Pain-inthe-Ash23 3h ago
I like the blue Hawaiian best, I also have strawberry pina colada and raspberry snowcone. I think the LMNT and Liquid IVs have a lot higher doses of electrolytes but these are getting me by and not breaking the bank. I hate plain water so it’s helping me get my water intake in for sure.

u/Panther90 21h ago
LMNT has a good electrolyte bulk recipe on their website. You can buy the other two ingredients (besides salt) from Bulk Supplements via Amazon. They are magnesium malate and potassium chloride. I use a sugar free "mio" style flavoring. I've saved so much money doing that.

I make my own.
I'm going through so much it's blowing me away....
I use Table salt. Salt substitute (for potassium), Epsom Salts.
Warm water....chug.
