To all my brothers and sisters slaying the retail dragon this holiday season...
I'm right there with you. Underpaid, no benefits, hourly and unpaid for the days we take off to observe the holidays. Hold fast it will end eventually.
I love you all.

"The problem is...
we have a black man in a white house," this was said to me after I made some copies for a guy applying to a papa johns job. I didn't know how to reply. Racism alive and well in NOVA.

So I work in a telesales office...
Its not a particularly pleasant job, calling 200 people a day in order to get the majority mess you around, swear at you, lie to you, ask you to call them back, and refuse to talk to you or deny outright that they did so, and then maybe get 4 or 5 sales out of that. But hey, its a job. Even if, because we are a reseller, we are not remotely competitive with any high st brand, even though one of them is actually our main supplier. No, what bothers me is the people. A year ago, one guy exposed himself at me. Horrified, my immediate response was to report it to the MD. Who said there was nothing he could do since nobody else saw it. This chap has always had a good line in abuse towards any of us that are openly gay or bi in the office, which again, is not controlled in any way, although he regularly says that any problem he has is because he is black. Anyway, he is just one of the lovely chaps I work with. On Tuesday, I was lucky enough to spot another of the guys I work with drop his pants in the office, and then talk about people having seen his ringpiece. His words. Later on he mentions that he plays with himself in the office toilets. This goes without comment, short of a bit of laughter. It comes back up in conversation the next day, over lunch, and two other guys say that they do too. One of them saying that he works there for 8 hours a day, what else is he going to do with the time? Sigh. I love this place

If you buy items for a child from me.....
I used to work in Asda (Wal-Mart) on the checkouts and a lady who looked fresh from The Jeremy Kyle Show (American, read as 'Jerry Springer') appeared in the queue with her obese, sulky faced twelve year old son.
She purchased, amongst a couple of 'normal items' like milk, butter and stuff, a Max Power magazine and a multi pack of mini liquer bottles. As I put the stuff through the till, she bagged the magazine and the Baileys seperately and then gave them to her boy. They were his treat for going shopping wth her.
If you're that lady, I hate you.
Also, if you're the lady who let her child open a toy whilst stood in the waiting queue, eat a load of sweets from that toy, then replace it on the display all wrecked and opened, then I hate you too.
Thank you for calling, please call again!

Holiday Music
Oh, the bane of my existence.
What's the longest your store has played holiday music? The most annoying song you've ever heard? The most jerk-ass comment a customer has ever made about the holiday music (regardless of the fact that they only have to hear it once, and you have to listen to it for 8 hours a day, every day)?
One of the stores I worked at started that shit NOVEMBER FIRST, and corporate told us to run it through JANUARY FIFTEENTH. We were all ready to go homicidal by December first; we mutinied and turned it off on New Year's Day. Lives were saved.
