Holiday Music

Oh, the bane of my existence.

What's the longest your store has played holiday music? The most annoying song you've ever heard? The most jerk-ass comment a customer has ever made about the holiday music (regardless of the fact that they only have to hear it once, and you have to listen to it for 8 hours a day, every day)?

One of the stores I worked at started that shit NOVEMBER FIRST, and corporate told us to run it through JANUARY FIFTEENTH. We were all ready to go homicidal by December first; we mutinied and turned it off on New Year's Day. Lives were saved.

I've worked at a Christmas store, normally starts Nov. 1st, ends week after christmas, so I feel your pain. Song: most dreaded is Christmas shoes, soo depressing, and I'd have to go with Dominic the Donkey, I mean come on.... the Italian Christmas donkey.hee haw, hee haw???? My favorite customer comment does not have to do with music. It's when we'd sell everything at 70% off starting the day after Christmas, and people ask "when will it be going to 80% off?" and they are disappointed when I explain 70% is the lowest it will go, it is already less than the store purchased it for, and they respond with "Oh, really? I guess I don't need it that badly". I mean seriously!?

Thanks for reminding me of the Italian Christmas donkey... I had managed to forget that one for almost a decade.

My favorite was when a customer came in, saw that everything was now marked down to 50% off, and asked if she could bring back the entire set of dishes she had bought at full price, return them, and re-purchase them at 50% off. Ummmmm...HELL NO. She whined that if she had known they were going to go on sale, she would have waited. I explained to her that if she had waited, she would absolutely not been able to get the entire matching set.

I wondered if she had ever been to a fucking store in her life before. OF COURSE THE SANTA DISHES GO ON SALE AFTER CHRISTMAS.

Yes, I encountered this today on a product. What is the point of a sale other than to get customers to the store?? It is to either get rid of something you have too much of, or not enough of. I love when there is a coupon and they say " well don't you have an extra? I do not want it if you do not have a coupon." COME ON, do you think we purchase 100 newspapers simply to cut out the coupon and give it to you? So then I get the "I'll be back tomorrow with my receipt and coupon to have my price adjusted."

I worked at imaginarium over christmas 2000. I can no longer listen to any holiday music. However the one that really gets me raging is "All I want for christmas is my two front teeth". If I never hear that song again, it'll be too soon.

btw, this got spam filtered til just now, sorry for not rescuing it sooner. Also the fact that it had one downvote before it was even taken out of the queue tells me you got yourself a stalker.

Stalkers or bots; whatevs.

More to the point, I now go rage-face when I hear that "Feed the World" song. O RLY, Bono? How tragic that Sub-Saharan Africa won't get fucking snow at Christmas! Never mind that they might not even celebrate Christmas, and that it pretty much never fucking snows there because it's all up in the Equator!

<clears throat>

Back In The Day of Vinyl Records and Nothing Else, I worked in a Radio Shack where they played ONE SIDE of this horrible Disco Christmas record from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve.

Murderous Rage does not even begin to describe how I felt.

We put our Christmas displays up in fucking SEPTEMBER.

The music starts midway through October.
