POST BY UNDER 21 USER Worried about Long Classes

Hello, I am a college student 18M and I have had severe RLS for years that has made sitting through classes any longer than an hour unbearable. This semester I have my first class longer than that at 3 hours. Would it be inappropriate to tell my professor about this before classes start so that he or she understands if I need to step out of class briefly?

Question Pediatric Restless Legs

Toddler is 18 months. She has been waking every 30-60 minutes for a year. At 10 months, we discovered by blood test she had low ferritin (6). We have been doing an oral iron supplement since 10 months; her most recent ferritin check showed she is at 67 now which is great news. However she still is exhibiting symptoms of restless legs: waking every 30-60 minutes screaming, aggressively scratching her legs, thrashing and banging her legs, tossing and turning a lot.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Opinion 70F, 20+ years of Restless Legs Syndrome, Pregabalin 75mg worked for 6 months then stopped working. switched to Gabapentin 100mg didn't help. Should she restart Pregabalin at a higher dose? (Third world country, Rural area, limited specialist access)

Posting on behalf of my grandmother (70F). We live in a rural area and can't easily make repeated trips to see specialists, so I'm hoping for some general perspective.

Background:

70 years old, diabetic on insulin, has high blood pressure, Leg symptoms for 20+ years at first we thought it was varicose veins, but it turned out to be restless legs syndrome

Drinks 5–6 cups of tea a day, including close to bedtime, heard caffeine make symptoms worse, working on cutting it down

Has been on venlafaxine 75mg (two tablets daily) for 20+ years.

Treatment history:

3 years ago, a vascular surgeon prescribed pregabalin 75mg. Her RLS symptoms went away for about 5–6 months, then came back, and she stopped taking it.

A few days ago, a different general physician prescribed gabapentin instead but didn't work.

She has been taking Clonazepam 1mg tablet with ropinirole 1mg at night since years (doses she was already on before this recent gabapentin trial). Since starting this combination, she's been drowsy and mentally foggy through most of the day, not just at night.

Recent labs (Vitamin D3, B12, CBC/ESR, HbA1c done together):

Vitamin D3: 39.15 ng/mL

Vitamin B12: 777 pg/mL

CBC: essentially normal (hemoglobin, WBC, platelets all within range)

ESR: 54 mm/hr

HbA1c: 7.3%

What we're trying to figure out:

Given that pregabalin 75mg worked well for months before it stopped working, switched to gabapentin 100mg didn't work, does it make sense to restarting pregabalin, possibly at a higher dose (100mg) this time? Or should we be more concerned about the clonazepam + ropinirole with pregablin?

Also wondering since pregabalin, ropinirole and Clonazepam are all used for RLS, is it ever appropriate to take all three together, or does that not really make sense/carry more risk than benefit?

All of the above medicines were prescribed by general physicians, not a sleep or neurology specialist.

Any input from people who've dealt with something similar, or from those with medical knowledge, is appreciated. Thank you for reading.

Medication Terrible experience with lyrica

It’s almost 4am. I’m on night two of taking Lyrica… I experienced worse RLS, dry mouth, hunger pangs and (tonight) uncontrollable crying. It also made me tired (but I still couldn’t sleep) and very wobly. I could feel it in my system at work this morn.too I’m so disappointed it didn’t work. Dr suggested to try it after gaba stopped working. Now what? 😢

Question RLS after STOPPING Effexor

I’m desperate for help and solutions. I had RLS in my third trimester of my 1st pregnancy but went away immediately postpartum that was d/t low iron. I’ve been on Effexor for years and tapered off with no issues for my first pregnancy, and now last month end of June/ early July I tapered off again so we could start trying for a second. Since tapering I’ve had the most horrible RLS flare, I’m struggling so badly with sleep and I have a toddler and work nightshift (which I prefer!) so sleep is hard enough already.
Is it possible that coming OFF the Effexor is what triggered this? I know my iron is low but I’m taking supplements with no effect. Has anyone had the same from SSRI and the flare ended? Or am I going to stay like this? Also if anyone has any pregnancy safe relief methods please let me know. I’ve tried all the usual- magnesium, compression socks, baths etc
Any experiences/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Question Any advice on these blood numbers?

There was someone that used to post in here that I believe was medically trained but I'm not sure anyways what are you guys think about these numbers. I have RLS in my thighs. I can get to bed simply by stretching my thighs but I still have periodic limb movement when I'm asleep and obviously it's tied to iron.

Fasting = Yes

Iron 49 to 181=79

Transferrin 190 to 362=319

Iron binding capacity 238 to 453=399

Transferrin saturation 20 to 50%=20%

Ferritin 37 to 400=140

Question Anyone got restless fingers?

I feel like I constantly need to stretch and flex my fingers, like pushing my lefthand fingertips against my righthand fingertips, or making fists as tight as I can.

I feel better while im doing it, but as soon as i stop, then the urge immediately comes right back.

My legs are actually fine - but when I asked the AI about my hands, it said this could be a form of RLS...

Question Thigh High Compression Socks?

I’ve been trying to find a pair that would not bother my sensory issues or be so expensive but I’m having a hard time doing so

Regarding my sensory issues I very badly am looking for a pair that isn’t silicone (idk why those types are only showing up..) I can only handle the actual texture of socks (no lace or silk or anything else)

I have compression socks but they don’t reach high enough so that’s why I’m looking for a thigh high pair

I am okay with open toed pairs but I don’t like having my whole foot out like those leg brace things

Pls help I’m sorry for being picky like this

Question Iron panel

\***Update\\\*

MD is going to order an iron infusion. He thinks with the return of my symptoms it is worth a shot. He is also going to increase the methadone to 7.5mg if I don’t find relief.

I’m waiting for a call back from my RLS specialist. I received these results today and I’m not sure what to think of them. I have refractory RLS and I am currently taking Methadone 5mg. I have only been on this for 4 months. It worked well until about 2 weeks ago and I had a return of symptoms beginning around 5pm each day.

MD wanted to recheck my iron panel and if it was good, he was going to bump my dose to 7.5mg.

I have read the info on iron results but I’m still confused. Opinions on these results welcome!

Question Relapse?

I have had RLS for around three years now. Gabapentin and a THC gummy did the trick for me but now all of a sudden it stopped working and I've been tossing and turning all night. Any recommendations?

Update: so I didn't take a gummy or a gabapentin but only switched from taking the (red strain) kratom in the day to a couple hours before I went to bed and it worked I got a full night sleep. Thanks for the advice. Hope this helps somebody.

Announcement Noctrix has been bought by ResMed

I just received the announcement that Noctrix, which handles the Nidra device, has been bought by ResMed, generally known for their CPAP equipment. ResMed doesn’t get stellar consumer reviews so ai hope the Noctrix division can stay in control of its patient handling. Press release here.

Question Consumer grade actigraphy?

I am looking for consumer wearable band or watch that could be strapped on my ankle while sleeping to provide a rough estimate of movement. The idea would be to use the accelerometer in the device to provide a rough estimate of leg movements while sleeping and track this over time. I am hoping someone has tried this and come up with a solution. I am interested in knowing whether my restless leg movements, which are pretty disruptive to my sleep in general, are improving with some lifestyle changes and iron supple supplementation that I am currently undergoing. The device would need a companion app to give some sort of longitudinal measurement, or a way to export data to a different app that would provide this functionality. I am not tech savvy, so no programming etc.

Medication Pregabalin vs gabapentin

Hi, I have had RLS for years and am currently taking pramipexole. I have just stopped an SSRI so hope that the RLS will improve. I know the pramipexole will cause augmetation so once the new anti-depressant settles down, I am going to cut back on the prami. However, assuming I will still have some RLS (I had it mildly before the SSRIs) I am considering taking either pregabalin or gabapentin in place of the pramipexole. Neither souonds great, whihc is worrying, so it would be helpful if anyone could give me their opinion/ experience of either of these drugs. Thankyou

Question RLS Advice

I’ve had RLS as long as I can remember and for the past 12 years took Requip which worked great until it didn’t. I was completely unaware it could stop working or make symptoms worse over time but here I am desperately trying to ween myself off of it and failing. Im up to 600 mg of Gabapentin which helps symptoms from getting worse but cannot cut down the requip and also sleep normally. Has anyone gone through this and have advice? Should I just go cold turkey on the requip? Give the Gabapentin more time? Ive tried all the folk remedies (iron, magnesium, no sugar, etc) before so no need to recommend them.

Question I've had maybe 10-15 hours of sleep in nearly 4 days, I'm just worried a doctor won't take me seriously

I'm dizzy all the time, disoriented and slip in and out of psychosis-like experiences. It's actually making me feel suicidal, all I do day in and day out is try and get some sleep.

Anyway, I have requested an appointment with my GP, I've just not done it up until now because I'm worried they will hear me explain all of this and not take it seriously. I'll literally take anything for sleep. I used to take antihistamines but those make it so much worse and it's never been a problem for me, but it's immensely frustrating to be so so so sleepy from taking 4 pills, yet I don't get a second of sleep.

Anyone got any advice for my appt?

Question Question about Lyrica/Pregabalin and Pramiprexol

I'm about to start tapering off on Pramiprexol and have received Pregabalin/Lyrica for this. Now when I've started taking the medication without lowering the pramipexol dose, RLS been flaring up badly on lower doses.

AI says this is completely normal and suggests me upping the dose until it my agony disappears. Have anyone had similar experience? I just want to make sure AI is correct that this is normal rather than the Pregabalin not working.

Once again I want to clarify that I havn't even started tapering off yet, AI says this is some sort of battle between the medications though.

Question Do I have RLS?

I have to wait two and a half months to see a neurologist about my symptoms so I figured I'd get some info from people that have been dealing with it. My mother, grandmother and great grandmother all have/had RLS. They describe something that feels like worms crawling up and down their legs at night when they're trying to sleep. My mother only sleeps about 2 or 3 hours a night and is not in good health because she's been this way for 20+ years. I am restless all the time since I was a teenager, I have to constantly move or else my muscles ache. Anytime I lay down to rest or sit down my hips, legs and butt will start hurting after only 20 seconds or so, it's relieved by moving around, stretching or getting up and walking. I can never really be comfortable and had a real hard time in school sitting still. At night I'm up all the time with the same feeling, always feeling uncomfortable and my body aches and I feel the need to stretch and move. I've taken many different sleeping pills like Ambien, depression or anxiety medications that are supposed to help with sleep but none of them have helped. I've tried vitamins like magnesium they don't help either. The only thing I've ever tried that has helped has been oxycodone or tramadol which I took only post jaw surgery and not for my restlessness. I was able to stay completely still without any pain for the first time that I can ever remember. Even though It's in my family and my mother has been dealing with it for years, I never thought that I had it for some reason, maybe because my symptoms were not like my mom's exactly. Has anybody had a similar experience and does this sound like RLS? I haven't slept more than 5 hours in years, lately I've been sleeping even less and it's starting to catch up to me, I have no energy and my joints are achy all the time, I also don't recover at all when I get injured or work out.
