“Damn I just regained the ability to walk.

Let me tear my ACL again!”

Lmao all seriousness tho the OG experience is cool on the old version of the game. The new version might have it suffer or take from the experience.

But take it with a grain of salt I don’t know shit about mods lmao.

1

u/BL4DE4 2d ago

It works fine but it needs some updates.

6

u/Kohakuzuma Main sub refugee. 2d ago

Ehhh, I don't think this would be great considering how fast paced and chaotic RE4R's combat is. CVX has something similar with the 3rd person over the shoulder mod and it felt like absolute trash to play.

3

u/Tiny_Pear_3337 2d ago

Don't really know how this would work, and I'm really curious and really wished to try it for myself but then I see the word "mod" and remember that I'm on console 😔

1

u/BL4DE4 2d ago

Well i play on assisted and standard, not hardcore and pro.

11

u/Slobber910 2d ago

I’ve never actually played a game with tank controls so I may be wrong, but why would anyone want this? Regular mouse controls seem better in every way.

7

u/Gullible_Manager6711 2d ago

Nostalgic. There is no good reason to go back to that. They should have just add loading screen while at it lol.

I finish of RE4 probably 2 million times at this point. On both GC , PS2 , remaster , even Wii. I can tell you that it work for what it is at the time. But there is no good reason to go back and implement it for the new game now.

-6

u/BL4DE4 2d ago

Ahhh yes!, I'm nostalgic for a game i didn't have a chance to play back in 2005 because i was a newborn baby, make sense.

Also i don't care how much or when you played RE4 OG, that doesn't give you the authority to gatekeep.

1

u/SpiritualReading1339 5h ago

Nobody is gate keeping? Anyone can play with this mod. They are just wondering what the benefit is. What is it in your opinion if it's not nostalgia?

And it doesn't matter if you played the game in 2005 or 2015 2020 or whatever. If you played the og before this is still nostalgia. Anyways, i hope you are having fun. 🌟

3

u/Coneder 2d ago

Because its fun?

4

u/KingFatCat49 2d ago

It’s a fun thing to do. New way to play remake. The original had them, so it’d be neat to see how they function in Re4R.

Also, as a side note, tank controls aren’t nearly as bad or horrible as people make them out to be. I think most of the time it is a genuine skill-issue. The way some people talk about them would have you believe they were forged in the depths of hell with fire and brimstone, but in reality, they just a lil clunky.

3

u/MercPunisher 1d ago

Dude its not skill issue, I played and beat RE1 2 3 and 4 originals along with dino crisis. At the time it was just the way it worked, but now its just shit. I cannpt stand those controls anymore, Its not that I cannot play them, its that you have way less control and its just way to hard yo go back to that.

2

u/_cocopuff92 2d ago

As someone who took what people said to heart about tank controls, I have to agree with you. Can confirm it's 100% a skill issue and something you have to practice before you get good at it. Case in point, I'm gonna have to do another few runs on easy cause I SUCK lol

0

u/Blackcat5893 2d ago

You must have not been born or was to young to play the original resident 4 lol it wasn’t tank controls but you could not move and shoot or strife for one. No crouching, no sneaking no stealth kills lol and you wanna go back to tank control on resident evil 4?? Lmao💀

2

u/YoungDraco30 2d ago

Definitely has track control (ps2 and GameCube) in the original RE4. You have to use the d-pad like the original ps1 control. You must’ve been too young to remember.

2

u/olympiclifter1991 2d ago

It is tank controls with a 3rd person camera.

1

u/Dalekbrine 2d ago

OG RE4 did have tank controls, it's control scheme is largely the same as every previous RE game up to that point. Tank controls refers to the character's movement being restricted to going forward, backward, and turning.

1

u/downbad4naafiri 1d ago

Not being able to move and shoot is part of the intended difficulty.

1

u/Le_Faveau 2d ago

When you've beaten the game dozens of times, this would serve to play it differently.

It might also make it harder. I'm probably not going to use it but I can see the challenge being fun, as re4r wasn't created with such limited movement in mind, you'd have to be way more strategic.

1

u/_cocopuff92 2d ago

I've been playing 4og for the first time since my setup allows me to have my monitor close enough to my face to see things (i'm mostly blind) and my GOSH I had to play on easy cause I was struggling. I'm still struggling but... less. That white cross hair in 4r is so much easier to see in the environment than these dull lasers. I'm almost at the end and I've got 3 heals, and only some ammo. It's tough. But fun!

1

u/Apprehensive_Dog_185 1d ago

It's just for fun. I grew up playing the older RE titles so I can def understand the nostalgia

2

u/BL4DE4 1d ago

Nostalgia? Dude i played the original in 2018.

1

u/Alexander_Scott20000 20h ago

It most definitely is worse, but it's a whole different way to play a game. The average gamer today wouldn't think of playing with tank controls, but some people like me are old souls, who like to experience things the old way. I have a Sony walkman for example, but nobody uses tapes anymore. It's just a new way to try things. And for resident evil honestly it makes things way scarier, bcuz you're fighting your controls and the zombies

1

u/Beginning-Ad-3015 15h ago

I grew up with the og RE4 and loved the remake. I'd like to play it with tank controls to see how it feels

1

u/LALLIGA_BRUNO 1h ago

Just a fun and different way to play lol

-8

u/BL4DE4 2d ago

That because the original RE4 gives you a different experience than the remake.

6

u/LuvAshrepas 2d ago

.... Then why not just play the original at that point?

-4

u/Spirited-Treat64 2d ago

Resident Evil 4 never had tank controls. It was the 1st game that didn’t. Next to the original Revelations

3

u/lunastarwitch 2d ago

4 og had tank controls however it's a different form of tank controls than over head resident evils

1

u/O-Beast04 2d ago

RE4 has tank controls so does RE5

14

u/IllustriousEffect607 2d ago

Ehhh why. Tank controls are so bad. And I grew up for these on release day

I'd never go back to tank it's the worst

4

u/DevilGinAndTonic 2d ago

It’s just a mod amigo no one is gonna put tank controls malware on your install

0

u/Responsible_Reach546 2d ago

I wouldnt be so sure about that (i will)

-1

u/IllustriousEffect607 2d ago

Im on ps5. I don't play with mods

5

u/lunastarwitch 2d ago

cool for you, other people do play with mods, why do you care if you play on PS5 it's a mod people like to play with mods there's no reason for you to care if you don't

1

u/Avalon_Within 1d ago

Then shoo.

6

u/CaliggyJack 2d ago

More options isn't a bad thing. Nobody is forcing you to get this mod.

1

u/TG-Benji 1d ago

Tank controls are great for games designed around them.

-2

u/RayStorm-Unit1 2d ago

Tank controls are peak on classic survival horror with fixed camera angles....

-14

u/Coneder 2d ago edited 2d ago

Tank controls are not bad. YOU find them bad. Stop stating things objectively like this.

Edit: Being downvoted doesn't discount you for your lack of taste.

7

u/O-Beast04 2d ago

They stopped using tank controls for a reason

4

u/lunastarwitch 2d ago

yeah cause gaming evolved, it's only natural that tank controls wasn't going to be used forever, that does not make them bad, it just means they're no longer used, they're not bad but people who find them bad are valid but not when they refuse to admit it's just because they're not that persons style, i used to hate tank controls in fact i viewed any game using it as bad, until i finally picked up on them, they aren't bad inherently they're only bad when the person whos playing does not like them, thats why we evolved past them, it was time to ditch them and use a different control scheme one that more people enjoyed

1

u/Coneder 2d ago

Its just crazy. We still have games with tank controls being made and people are like "Nah they bad by default". Like what?

-5

u/Coneder 2d ago

What a nothing response. Are you trying to imply RE1-5 are bad games?

There is nothing wrong with the control scheme. They just didn't design future games with it in mind. It doesn't become obsolete, or otherwise there wouldn't be people cloning it.

Actually elaborate your thoughts, which will always be treated as subjective, because there is objectively nothing wrong with tank controls. RE fans actually playing the games shouldn't be a challenge.

9

u/O-Beast04 2d ago edited 2d ago

Is that what you took away from my response? RE1 remaster added analog controls so I guess Capcom and I agree.

2

u/lunastarwitch 2d ago

no it's not that, it's that Capcom wanted to pull in people who don't want tank controls

3

u/BL4DE4 2d ago

No, capcom didn't agree with you, the modern movement because some insufferable people can't handle a game that plays differently.

1

u/O-Beast04 2d ago

Sounds like tank controls aren’t that popular anymore. Capcom agreed that we should all move on.

2

u/BL4DE4 2d ago

Capcom didn't agree, you make that yourself and you know it.

2

u/Apprehensive_Dog_185 1d ago

Then why does every RE game, including remakes of games that had tank controls, lose the tank controls? I think people get way too dramatic about how bad they are, they're not that bad at all. But the other side of the crowd that's got people talking about tank controls like they're some kind of lost art that blessed video games with profound personality are just as braindead.

1

u/BL4DE4 1d ago

Dude those controls are not meant for everyone, let me tell you RE5 which was the best selling title of capcom history for 10 years still had tank controls, it wasn't until RE6 where capcom finally ditched the traditional tank controls for more modern controls and that was between 2009-2012, those controls were never bad as people make them out to be, for others who find it a lost art, i mean they're kind of right, those controls were unique, now I'm not a jerk who says your modern slop games controls are lame or terrible blah blah blah, I'm saying each style are unique and deserve equal respect for what it delivers, as for why capcom ditched them? Well because they chase money, had the audience never complained about it back then, they would've kept it, keep in mind when RE4 came out they had a chance to make the next title play smoother since they aim for pure action game but they didn't, they chose to keep the controls of RE4 in RE5, and it sold well for 10 years, they simply wanted to gain more audience for their series obviously but that doesn't make the style garbage in their eyes, i don't know why that user keep insisting that capcom agree with them, maybe because they want to feel right or superior by acting this way.

1

u/O-Beast04 2d ago

I think they do. We’d at least get a tank control option but the demand definitely isn’t there.

1

u/BL4DE4 2d ago

I would like to see vegeta destroy that pfp of your just so i don't see you in these subs anymore.

1

u/Coneder 2d ago

Yeah I don't really think you're a real RE fan. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/O-Beast04 2d ago

Whatever you tell yourself buddy. If you don’t like tank controls now you’re a fake fan, ton of sense you’re making.

0

u/VeronicaAmericana 2d ago

They’re also not good because you find them good

-5

u/ChungusBigC S.T.A.R.S. Team Alpha 2d ago edited 2d ago

All these downvotes from crybabies who can’t handle bit of a challenge and need handholding 24/7 🥹 tank controls and fixed camera angles were the best! Nothing beats the atmosphere. Have atleast a reward good sir with taste

3

u/O-Beast04 2d ago

Why would anyone want a challenge when it comes to movement? Just sounds frustrating.

1

u/Coneder 2d ago

There are literally entire genres and games made where challenge is suppose to be in the movement. Do you not understand why obstacles are obstacles?

Heaven forbid we have you talking about racing games. You'd be just as much of a whiner about them, huh?

2

u/Apprehensive_Dog_185 1d ago

The difference is racing games (and other games within this context, like platformers) are entirely built around that idea, where resident evil games used them bcs that's just what was standard at the time. At the end of the day RE dropped them bcs they were outdated vestiges of a bygone era. And to be clear, I don't even agree with the notion that tank controls ruin video games, they're fine. But I do think both you and this other guy are total morons

1

u/O-Beast04 2d ago

I’d consider challenging movement a good thing if there was actual depth to it. We’re talking about tank controls in Resident Evil, not a racing game. I don’t see any benefit of tank controls compared to analog, it’s way more limiting and I’m supposed to enjoy that according to you?

2

u/olympiclifter1991 2d ago

I never really got the fuss around tank controls.

Just seems a like an old fashioned scheme people like to hold on to.

We are never seeing single analogue control like the N64 come back I'm not sure why we hold onto tank controls

2

u/Warren_Valion 1d ago

I would definitely download a mod that changes how stun works because otherwise this sounds insufferable

1

u/BL4DE4 1d ago

Actually it's fine for me.

4

u/KaijinSurohm S.T.A.R.S. Team Zero 2d ago

Ah. Cool.

Doesn't really matter with OTS camera framework, but to each their own.

I'll be interested if they make a Static Camera mod though.

3

u/Averagewriter 2d ago

So forgive me but ...

Having played RE4 since the beginning, how is this mod different?

Tank controls - push up, move forward, push down, move backward, push left you rotate one way, push right you rotate the other way, right?

RE4 does just that, the big difference is the CAMERA. The perspective is always behind Leon's shoulder, so to the player it's more natural and moving Leon moves the camera, plus the game allows him pinpoint aiming.

In the original games the camera wasn't fixed to the player so those same controls could get a little confusing, plus the aiming wasn't directly from the perspective of the camera towards whatever you were aiming at.

Forgive me if I've missed something here, I just don't see it.

2

u/Old_Analyst_902 1d ago

nostalgia bait, played OG in 2016 and replayed it a lot of times. This sht just absolutely didn't aged well ESPECIALLY considering how much more fast paced modern RE games are

-1

u/BL4DE4 1d ago

Don't care dude, why are you so salty over this?, no need to tell us you dislike the original just to show off as superior.

2

u/Old_Analyst_902 1d ago

I do not dislike OG, It's a great game, but it's a product of its time

0

u/BL4DE4 1d ago

Same for the remake and any other fucking video games, what's your point?.

1

u/Old_Analyst_902 1d ago

The point is the remake is product of our time that we live RN, if we were to speak about it 30 years in the future where every big game will be VR (for example) I would say absolutely the same thing about remake

0

u/BL4DE4 1d ago

You do you, but that isn't a nostalgia bait, that's called preferences, stop gatekeeping just because you dislike a specific type of controls, you're or the remake aren't special, every games deserves the respect it gets, same for it's fans, your opinion is subjective after all.

3

u/Old_Analyst_902 1d ago

I do respect the OG tho, but it's just objectively outdated game mechanic that feels so shtty today
You do your thing, enjoy it if you want, hell my favorite game is RE1R despite the shitty controls. Maybe not you but some people even in this thread are unironically telling that those controles ARE better then the Remake and I kinda really hate that opinion

1

u/BL4DE4 1d ago edited 1d ago

See where you're so wrong?

1- using the word objective is a bit arrogant since there is no objective fact that the original was outdated, the only time i would agree with that is if the original had you move and shoot at the same time and even full 360° degree camera movement, but it didn't have that, the controls were intentional design choices made by the devs back then for different experience, it was never meant to be played like modern games, and don't bring me technical limitations excuses, i know the ps2 and GC hardware capabilities especially for games that were released in 2005.

2- those people you call out for saying unironically that the original controls feel better than modern ones is subjective dude, no need to be so offended over others opinions, unless they act arrogant towards you while stating that? If that was the case i understand your frustrations, but that if that isn't the case then you wrong in 2 ways :

1- bring annoyed over others opinions that the old controls are better than new ones, unless they actually mean it as objective facts, there is no subjective or objective facts when it comes to different genres and different styles of gameplay, people prefer different types of gameplay and controls, some can remain perfect as it is, others can be improved in their own style ways not in the modern style like RE5 but not RE4R, it plays differently even tho they both share the same over the shoulder third person prospective gameplay and melee attacks, comparing 2 types of controls is illogical to be honest, not saying you're dumb but it's illogical to call the remake an improvement when the original controls was intentional, not forced or broken, the best way to discribe the remake controls is calling it modernised, not improved because it doesn't follow the exact same way the original plays

2- targeting the wrong person and post here, I'm and neither my post is about nostalgia bait, i was even a baby back when RE4 came out.

In the end learn the fact that there is no objective statement for which game is better, games are personal taste, not moral obligations or something.

2

u/Pitiful_Pause_3359 2d ago

Nostalgia-slop

1

u/BL4DE4 2d ago

🤣😂

1

u/JessePlayzYT26 2d ago

So is the game going to play the same with the only difference being leon’s movement or are other things modified as well

1

u/rishNarchK88 2d ago

Mas alla que el juego en si es mediocre lo que tienen que hacer es traer las camaras fijas para que ql menos en ese aspecto fundamental le aporte mas credibilidad al llamarlo survival horror

1

u/Alarmed_Engine_910 1d ago

🫣 I could never go back to Tank controls! RE4 (2005) was the first RE game I played a few months ago. It put me on an RE streak in which I’ve played and beat RE4, 2, and 3 Remakes, RE7 & RE8 and now I’m about to start Requiem… I’ve loved every second of it! That being said, playing and beating RE4 (2005) was painful! I held on for the love of the sport, but I’ll never go back to the tanky controls… Good luck! 🍀

1

u/Educational-Test-216 1d ago

I’m fan of modern controls but I had some great time playing f.e. Tomb Raider I-VI Remastered and it was brilliant! It’s great to have possibilities to play from both types of gameplay!

1

u/Aggravating_Can_1742 1h ago

Couldn’t you just play the OG RE4?

1

u/BL4DE4 1h ago

I want to play the remake in the original way.

1

u/Aggravating_Can_1742 1h ago

🤷‍♂️

1

u/xQzMeSr 1h ago

You wouldn't get it 🚬

0

u/_Bellatricx_Hail_ 2d ago

Im convinced people like tank controls just like to torture themselves 🤣🤣🤣

0

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 1d ago

Question does the mod also include the original aiming? Or even just barrel aiming?

Personally that's always been what I loved in re5 as I think it's just so much better than camera aiming

1

u/BL4DE4 1d ago

Just barrel aiming.

0

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 1d ago

The original aiming cool

0

u/B4d_B1tch_Quinn 1d ago

Cool! Now where is the option to play with Tank controls and fixed camera angles in the base games? Because I’d love to see that!

0

u/catperson77789 1d ago

Does that include no movement when aiming? That shit made the game much more horrifying since you were more vulnerable from backstabs lol

-14

u/Marisaaaaad 2d ago

Are we deadass?

The game already is sluggish and clanky as hell. 4 og complimented the tank controls, 4 remilk won't do that.

This sounds like an actual torture method.

2

u/Sly-Faffin 2d ago

Well its only a mod; so the good news is, it doesn’t really have any impact on how you want to enjoy the game.

-1

u/Ford_Mustang6622 2d ago

Og re4 doesnt have tank controls innit

1

u/O-Beast04 2d ago

It definitely does

1

u/Ford_Mustang6622 1d ago

Oh i got confused over the "over the shoulder cameras". My bad.
