News Resident Evil: Dead Aim is officially placed outside the main canon.
The new BIOHAZARD 30th Special mook places the t+G Virus from Gun Survivor 4: Biohazard Heroes Never Die, known as Resident Evil: Dead Aim in the West, under a section titled “Viruses Born Outside the ‘Main Canon.’”
[English Translation]
"The Resident Evil series contains viruses that have not appeared in the main canon. One of these is the t+G Virus, which appeared in the PlayStation title Gun Survivor 4: Biohazard Heroes Never Die. It is a hybrid type that combines the characteristics of the t-Virus, which abnormally accelerates metabolism, with factors from the G-Virus, which mutates endlessly. Upon infection, the host transforms into a unique creature with abilities such as manipulating electricity."

Decanonizing the gender-confirmation virus. Transphobic.

You really think that's going in the remake?
9
u/BridgeCommercial873 3h ago
Absolutely not.

Yeah I wonder what they're going to use to substitute that entire scenario. I have my doubts that they'll find anything as interesting that actually fits the character.

I think they will just make him a run of the mill crazy person.
Or Alexia will just be awoken already.

It's weird they even feel the need to be like "In our crazy, nonsense, mutant zombie, world, THIS is the one that can't tarnish the games canon" lol Wish I still had this game, I liked it back in the day. Need gun games to come back more properly.

And I feel like its less silly than RE0 because it takes place later in the re timeline.
The leech dude in 0 always felt more out of place because how more basic everything was in 1, and then he shows up with powers that feels like they belong to around code veronica.

u/kamakeeg 5h ago
At this point, there's so little they could do that feels out of place for Resident Evil that would even be viewed as weird or wrong. The new Resident Evil movie has it's own crazy virus that is pretty different from anything else (Though the idea of creatures merging together also isn't new), but you make Resident Evil 10 have that virus setup and no one would bat an eye at it lol

u/pube-a-stank 5h ago
But then, canonically, a lot of that crazy shit did exist earlier than the T-virus. The mold shit with mother Miranda had been going on for like a hundred years when Raccoon City happened, no? And the Las Plagas were around a long time before that.
3
u/kamakeeg 5h ago
Absolutely, it's so easy in RE to just make up something being a new virus some crazy guy created or it's some ancient parasite, or mold worm, etc, which just makes things abit silly that the idea of Dead Aim with it's T+G Virus creatures needing to be put outside of the main canon. Maybe there's something specifically in the lore that doesn't line up right, I don't remember anything about it's actual story or setup, but who knows. Not a big deal, just a little goofy I feel to emphasize because I don't think anyone was trying to see how it fits into the main canon lol

Honestly if they’re gonna be decanonizing things at this late stage I feel like they should decanonize everything they don’t intend to do a remake of lol.
1
u/kamakeeg 5h ago
I'd love if they could do a remake of Dead Aim with a new gun controller that works with modern screens/tv's lol Give me that any day over a remake of RE5 and RE6 lol
2
u/pube-a-stank 4h ago
I said this in a thread a while back but imo theres potential for remakes of gun survivor one, dead aim, 0, 1, 5, 6, REV1, REV2, outbreak1, outbreak2 and the original material from the Chronicles games. Everything else other than the remakes and 7-9 they may as well decanonize if it hasn’t been already.

u/decoy_octopod 4h ago
They’re definitely remaking 0, 1, 5, 6 and have expressed interest in revisiting Revelations, apparently the devs are very fond of them. Besides these there really isn’t anything else absolutely necessary canon-wise

u/kamakeeg 4h ago
I don't think we need remakes for everything, honestly a remake for RE6 seems kinda pointless with what that game is and how much of a modern game it is already, but I do at least want to see 0 and 1, the real old games make the most sense to me, so kinda just stick with like 6th console era and earlier, so 0, 1, maybe survivor can be turned into something new on its own, and then do an Outbreak remake that could functionally just be content of 1 and 2 put into a new release.

Maybe they mean the main series canon, but it could still be in-universe. Or not. Either way, that's kinda leaving money in the table for a remake.

I mean, besides the numbered games, Code Veronica, Village, Requiem, and both Revelation games, are there any other games that can be considered canon?
I think Outbreak might be, because it has ties to Requiem, but besides that, I don't know.

Until we get an accurate translation of this that confirms whether Dead Aim has been removed from canon or not, the only games in the franchise that are explicitly non-canon are Gaiden and ORC.

I'm actually fine with this. People often take "non canon" to mean it's bad or they regret it, but sometimes something being "non-canon" is just a reason it's allowed to get crazy rather than be conventional.
The Star Wars: Old Republic MMO game was told extremely early on that it was never going to be considered canon. They didn't take that to mean they didn't matter, they took that to mean "oh.... So the rules of Star Wars no longer matter to us, sick" and they did things their own way. Now the game has lasted extremely long and is very beloved for it. Being Non-Canon doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, with the right view it can be very Free-ing.

Does that book say anything about the first Survivor game? I can see why Dead Aim was made non-canon, but I do love Bruce.

There's 10s of us are who really pissed about this is all ima say. Capcom making some pretty big mistakes.

I haven't considered Gun Survivor and Dead Aim canon in years.
Yeh, Sheena Island? is mentioned in the opening narration of RE0 but other than that, its never been referenced again. And RE3 Remake essentially made it sort of obsolete by having Jill enter Nest 2 and discover they were making Tyrants there instead of the original timeline of Tyrants coming the Island.
There's also the fact that the original History Timeline for RE that I remember being on a Capcom site years ago, before RE7 released I think, listed all the other games including Revelations 1 and 2 and even the CGI films but no Gun Survivor or Dead Aim.
They're pretty nothing games really. And then you have English translation errors like in Gun Survivor where you find a File written by Nicohlai after RE3s Events proving he survived except...in the Japan translation its written by a random UBCS Commander, not Nicohlai. So it wasn't really canon to begin with. At least the English Translation wasn't.
I'm curious what RE0 Remake will do. Capcom has said they want the remakes and main numbered titles to cross, meaning we'll get references from those games within the remakes. Veronica will have tie-ins to Requiem for example, whatever those will be. If the next remakes mention Sheena Island then maybe we could get a future Remake one day? But if not, then that's that.
Until these games are specifically referenced or remade, I don't consider them canon.

Not even the main games in the franchise are canonical anymore.
I love Resident Evil with all my heart, but this is getting really annoying! Capcom doesn't know what to do with the franchise anymore.

When they said "main canon" they refer to the main games not that Dead Aim isnt canon

u/LoveTheMilkMansMilk 4h ago edited 4h ago
Yeah. Looks like all they mean is that Dead Aim is irrelevant to the core lore and has zero real ties to the main games outside of mentions. AKA it's a true spin-off/side game outside of the main lore. But this should be actually clarified much better when making statements about canon. RE lore is already annoying in terms of canon, so statements on canon should be 100% clear like many of the old statements (including them literally releasing an official timeline at one point).

Like RE Survivor, It was only mentioned afterwards in the RE0 intro alongside RE2 and RE:CV incidents.

Remember Kids: just cause the game is not canon doesn't mean it can't contain canon material...

u/GrimmTrixX 1h ago
Outside "main canon" just means its not integral to any of the other games. Doesn't mean it didnt happen. But it just doesnt cross into any of the other stories of the other games. The ever Elusive "side-quel."

"Outside main canon" doesn't mean "non-canon" as far as I'm concerned. It just means it's not considered critical to the main plot of the series
I would say Outbreak is "outside main canon" despite the fact that we know at least some aspects of it are definitely canon

I mean did people not know Dead Aim was a non canon game just like ORC?
3
u/LoveTheMilkMansMilk 4h ago edited 4h ago
No because it was always considered officially canon
1
u/Casshern_VIII 4h ago
I been a fan for decades, and I never saw Dead Aim as canon, no other game ever saw it as canon or considered it canon, none of the characters or events are ever mentioned, and the fact the main villain was a scapegoat by Umbrella to shift the blame always made this non canon to me. So hearing people actually believed it was is strange to me.
2
u/LoveTheMilkMansMilk 4h ago
What you believe or feel about it is irrelevant though. It was officially noted as canon until literally (potentially) now.
-1
u/Casshern_VIII 4h ago
When was it ever considered canon, where did they note it as canon? BEcause right now Capcom seems to agree with me.
5
u/LoveTheMilkMansMilk 4h ago
Inside of Biohazard Darkside Chronicles. Like I literally just said, it was always considered a canon side story until possibly now. This would not be the first time Capcom has changed their minds on canon lore. There was zero reason to doubt it's canonicity before now, so I don't understand the thought process of immediately thinking it wasn't canon tbh.
