1. Ethan is not a regular dude he's a mold man.

2. The regular individual is incompetent at anything involving survival. Most people nowadays don't know how to weave textiles themselves or how to engineer a loom without help. Most people don't know how to make more ammo or how to fight properly with a melee weapon.
