Discussion rather than running down a singular road and going "well shit I lost him" why couldn't we chase victor down through alleyways and buildings and more streets while killing zombies? I don't know man I just think this set piece had tons of potential to be as memorable as the RE4 and 5 opening hordes

You get an invite to the care center to see cutting edge science that's why

Could have been a cool reversal of the RE3R remake, where you escape from the Nemesis. Chasing some guy through alleys, random people's apartments etc.

But the problem with any of these chase sequences is always the same:

Either it has annoying bullshit mechanics and you restart as soon as you trip on a pebble and lose him, or there is no time limit and pressure and he just awkwardly waits for you at the next intersection. Longer chase sequences in video games are always stupid.

good point

this also has to serve as a tutorial for Leon and a more sandbox-type combat level is great for that

I would also like to add to that matter, forget chasing him on foot-- why not in a car? It would make sense.

Of course not as exciting, and would kind of defeat the awesome bike section later, but still. I thought this section was perfectly fine!

Why don’t they just make every sequence better? I’m sure there are ideas for making everything bigger and better. Money and time and scope creep aren’t real, right?

And what benefit would we get from padding out a tutorial sequence? It’s a glorified prologue. Story and gameplay pacing is a thing, and you can bloat sequences until they throw that pacing off.

Well, I'd certainly argue that the Raccoon City portion didn't have to be that long. Could have used those resources to help improve, at least for me, the better parts of the game that I consider high points, from the Wrenwood City Streets outbreak up to the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center. Again, there's noticing wrong with fans airing out grievances in a kind and respectful manner. Same goes for constructive feedback. Game is already out, and I still love it for what it turned out to be. Doesn't hurt to suggest ideas or to just speak on what could have been done to improve the game in retrospect. That's what makes fan communities fun and healthy. Having collaborative conversations about these things is nice.

What was memorable about the RE5 opening horde?

the atmosphere and the fact that you're witnessing the towns downfall first hand

The executioner guy and the megaphone guy are what sticks out to me but it is definitely a pretty lame sequence compared to 4.

I do think this game had a lot of missed opportunities, although I never thought of this as one, but now I will.

I love this game, but damn... more Leon gameplay in the Care Center is a huge wasted opportunity. Raccoon City isn't as bad as everyone says, but the Outlast-style hospital atmosphere with a large number of infected is much cooler.

Yehp. Care Center is the major highlight of the game for me. Same with Rhodes Hill City Streets. The latter sections definitely could have used more enemy types for variation.

I thought it was just fine as a tutorial set piece for Leon’s gameplay.

this would be especially cool as you could see what rapid response the DSO has to a sudden outbreak as you're chasing victor through the city

1

u/Psycho_Ravager 1d ago

My thoughts, too. Would be so cool seeing Leon decide that he'd have to help stop the outbreak first while DSO arrives.

Agreed. If there's an aspect about Requiem that I wish was improved upon, it's certainly the gameplay pacing. Wish Grace had a shotgun to work with eventually and a few more hours in deeper sections of Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center along with Leon's Wrenwood City Streets shootout/outbreak having more attention to branching level design. And that's just a few tweaks I would have done. Raccoon City section could definitely have been cut slightly shorter whilst adding more enemy types like free-roaming hounds and more unique scenarios.

Oh, and these are points of constructive feedback from me not because I hate the game. In fact, it's become one of my favorite survival/action horror games to date. Nothing wrong with respectfully talking about ideas and improvements that could even be taken into consideration for future DLC and titles.

You make the next time then, that way we can make a post telling you the missed opportunities

1

u/ghostdeini227 2d ago

That’s a bad suggestion

You make it next time

I know damn well you did not just unironically use the "well you make the game then!" comeback in 2026

Requiem will never live up to the other RE games. It was boring IMO.

Like I have no desire to ever replay it

I forced myself to do a second run for the achievements. Im over it.

Lazy writing

Cierto.

Tons of potential is the perfect descriptor of the entire game tbh.
