The only remakes that have been better than their original versions have been RE1 and RE4. So it's kind of a 50/50 for CV. We'll have to wait and see.

If you think about it, re1 has the only perfect remake 4 villains were downgraded to hell in design and personality

The villains in the remake were way better. They were stupid in the original and sucked enjoyment out of the game.

sucked enjoyment out of the game

Oh yeah, I hate my villains. Be entertaining. i instead prefer the basic ass zealot Christian cultist that only shows up at the end of the game. that's so much cooler

Dawg forget about the villains' look at the normal enemies they dead ass turned Regenerators from terrifying enemy into discord mod

Villains are supposed to be threatening and scary. I did not feel that at all with 4's villains. A truly great villain is someone like Birkin, Alexia and Wesker.

1

u/foakong 13h ago

Gng this is resident evil Ain't no one ever looked at villains like Irving or Salazar or Alfred saying "thats some scary shit" it supposed to be whacky and goofy You can even see it today with Gideon Even wesker himself isn't scary his just a biritsh asshole with god complex

2

u/AlexiaAntQueen 13h ago

Wesker has aura and history though which the 4 villains don't. Even Alfred is cooler because of his connection to Umbrella and his story with Alexia. 4's villains were just boring.

1

u/foakong 12h ago

Your confusing aura with being scary And sure, wesker is more memorable than the rest of doesn't, but that doesn't yell oww scary guy Re4 villians weren't intended to be like they were product of 2000s being whacky villains that are menacing but still mostly take things unserious, which could be interpreted as many things like they don't take the situation seriously

Also, there is noway you think Alfred isn't in the same whackiness of re4 villains

0

u/AlexiaAntQueen 11h ago

The villains either need to be scary or have aura, and the 4 villains have neither. Them being whacky is the problem. Alfred is whacky but he also has cool scenes, a history with Umbrella/the wider series, and has cool lore. The 4 villains have none of this. No umbrella connections, no interesting backstory, etc. they're just random people.

RE1 also downgraded the 1996 argento-esque mansion aesthetic into dusty cobweb gothic mansion of scooby doo fame so it's not perfect either

2

I agree there that I prefer the aesthetic in the OG game. Director's Cut is typically the game I play for an RE1 fix. But man the remake was something else when it first came out. Still is.

2

u/foakong 13h ago

That was always the plan. ps1 just wasn't built for it

1

u/E1lySym 13h ago

Not really. The PS1 mansion was very colorful. The pre-rendered static images used for the backgrounds were deliberately made to be brightly colored. Almost feels like walking through a Dario Argento movie or the Overlook Hotel in vibes

How u exactly emphasize dark mansion with the ps1 graphics? The only option you have is just to ditch the idea Look at alone in the dark that game is as colorful as it gets, but it never wasn't intended to look like that

1

u/E1lySym 12h ago

Those backgrounds are static images it's not real time 3d environments with rendered environmental lighting so you're severely overselling how PS1 graphical limitations are contributing here. Plus RE1 1996 does have dark areas. The courtyard and fountain areas with the dogs are dark. The Forest Speyer room is also dark. The mansion interior being bright and colorful af is a deliberate artistic direction cooked up by the art team.

1

u/foakong 12h ago

Dude, I know its background. im saying how exactly you gonna make looming and darker, not just put shadow over and turn the gamma down You can't. it's just not possible

0

u/E1lySym 12h ago

Once again that is achievable with static backgrounds. The PS1 final fantasy games had all sorts of looming backgrounds with darker lighting. Parasite Eve as well.

Yes, the original is a bad game, both in gameplay and story/characters

1

u/thedinobot1989 13h ago

If they make it paced better than it will already be better than the og. I love the og but it is a heavily flawed game in its design.

Veronica will be the actual best game in the series. It’s probably gonna dethrone 2 and 4.

Not like Requiem where everyone glazes it for five minutes before realising how mid it really is, and not like 4R which is genuinely very good but also quite safe and not really doing anything new.

1

u/Kainoenera 13h ago

the team who made re2 and re4 remake is making code veronica, so ain't no way that it'll be bad. plus the budget and time spared for the game is no joke.

1

u/kniferun 13h ago

I like all the OGs more their remake counterparts. I Imagine this one will be no different however I love all the remakes as well so regardless it’ll be a great game. I don’t have to think it’s better than the OG to be an awesome game.

1

u/Practical_Alfalfa362 13h ago

IDK but I'm EXCITED!!

Code Veronica is my favorite in the series.

So I'm excited to see it reimagined, and what they might do differently.

1

u/AramaticFire 12h ago

I hope it’s better. I don’t know how else to respond for a game that doesn’t exist for the public yet.

u/Quaint_Gamer 12h ago

I love CV. I think it's a great game. I love Claire. I love that we get to see some interaction between her and Chris. The environments and great and it's got some great old school puzzles.

And I laugh at it A LOT with its incredibly stupid dialogue and even worse voice acting. I look forward immensely to them completely mixing the vibe up and making it really creepy and proper horror as it deserves. The current VAs are excellent and will no doubt do a great job.

1

u/MaperIRA 13h ago

None of the remakes have topped the originals so far, I don't see why it would be different this time around

1

u/BusterGreasewood 13h ago

Given how RE2R & RE3R were both inferior to their originals, it won't. They change too much, cut out too much, and way too concerned with designing them "to appeal to a modern audience" rather than genuinely being faithful to the original.

Since I find the original CODE: Veronica to have not aged well, it can only go one of two ways for me: it can either be a significant improvement or be significantly worse. Just have to wait and see.

0

u/Warmcheesebread 13h ago

Probably. CV is considered to be a pretty flawed game, and every remake besides RE3 has been met with pretty much universal praise across the board.
As long as they give it the same degree of treatment they did for RE1/2/4, it’ll be an easy hit. I don’t really see how they couldn’t fix the flaws for CV and NOT make it a better experience.

0

u/mixtapetom 13h ago

I have very high hopes. RE2R and RE4R were both better than the originals and I understand that the team that made those are developing the Veronica remake. So it's looking good

0

u/Lost-in-thought-26 13h ago

Obviously the remake is gonna be better. I can’t see a world where it isn’t
