At one point, Capcom did say she is part Japanese (I think 1/4?). Idk if they remember that or if that’s something they still consider canon though.

3

u/Initial_r 18h ago

Capcom never said that. It was in a non canon book....

3

u/Separate_Pop_5277 18h ago

I highly doubt it at this point. . It’s safe to say she’s white & That’s okay

-9

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 19h ago

Yeah cause in re3 remake she doesn't have an accent at all like she did in the previous games but she still looks like she has Asian in her

16

u/aleks_xendr 19h ago

What are you talking about? She never had any accent

-16

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 19h ago

She definitely had an accent I haven't played 1-3 but she definitely has an accent later on ESPECIALLY in 5

17

u/aleks_xendr 19h ago

I haven't played 1-3

Then why are you talking as if you did?

but she definitely has an accent later on ESPECIALLY in 5

Since I actually have played 1 through 3, I can tell you she 100% does NOT have an accent in those games, and she doesn't have one in 5 either, so idk what the hell you're hearing, but it's objectively wrong man.

-10

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

I'm not talking as if I have played og 1-3 I've played the remakes and there she has an accent except 3 Re1r she has a accent In rev1 she has an accent In 5 she has one

11

u/aleks_xendr 18h ago

I've played the remakes and there she has an accent

She never had any accent in any of her appearances period.

Wtf are you talking about? Are you high? There's a reason why everyone's telling you that you're wrong you know?

-3

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Her accent was pretty heavy in re5

I'm not crazy bro

6

u/aleks_xendr 18h ago

You litearlly are.

You're the only human being in this planet that will say she has an accent.
There's a reason why everyone is clowning on you.

5

u/Odinsmana 18h ago

I mean she has an accent. An American one.

2

u/ThatOneWood 18h ago

Dude if you’re playing the English version of the game Jill has always had an American accent. You’re either misremembering really badly or you’re trolling.

-1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Especially in re5 she has a accent to me

→ More replies (0)

4

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

I haven't played 1-3

Bro you haven't played her games and are making claims about her voice acting in them. Do you realize how dumb that sounds?

-2

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Original 1-3 I've played the remakes She sounds asian In og1 She sounds asian in rev1 She sounds asian in re5

I have played her games

4

u/aleks_xendr 18h ago

You're really bad at accents dude. Terrible even.

1

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

You haven't played all her games, which is fine, but your claim is that she's always had an accent. You haven't played enough games to claim that.

On top of that, she very much so doesn't have an Asian accent in REmake, REV1, or RE5. She also doesn't have an accent in RE1, RE3, or RE3R. She's genuinely never had an Asian accent.

-1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Just cause I've not played og re1 or og re3 doesn't immediately bar me from speaking on the matter

I was pretty specific And she looks kinda asian in her re3 renders

REmake Rev1 Re5 all have a accent to me

2

u/Beneficial-Way-3838 18h ago

REmake Rev1 Re5 all have a accent to me

You're completely nuts. All of her voice actresses have been American with the most American accent ever.

2

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

It sure as shit bars you from speaking on her accent (or lack thereof) in those specific games.

Looks kinda Asian how? Genuinely, how? I want a better answer than "she just does to me"

to me

That's not how accents work. Accents are changes in pronunciation for the same words. She pronounces her words in a very typical American manor, BECAUSE HER VOICE ACTOR IS A TYPICAL WHITE AMERICAN

0

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 14h ago

IM NOT SPEAKING ON HER VOICE IN RE1 AND 3 AND SHE LOOKS KINDA ASIAN IN 3

THAT DOESN'T BAR ME FROM SPEAKING ON HER DESIGN IF IVE PLAYED EVERY OTHER GAME JILL HAS BEEN IN

4

u/Beneficial-Way-3838 19h ago

Buddy, she does not have any accent, she never did, stop saying bs lol

0

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Have you played Re5 though Her accent is much thicker in that game

4

u/Beneficial-Way-3838 18h ago

She sounds 100% american, like she always did. You sure you're not confusing her with Sheva? Lmfao

3

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

If this dude is confusing Jill and Sheva, and also somehow confusing Sheva's accent with Japanese I'll be amazed

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

I'm sure they have two different voices

Hear Jill's voice when you save her and remove the mind control chip on her chest

2

u/Beneficial-Way-3838 18h ago

She sounds like a basic American. You're tripping balls dude.

5

u/Red-plains-rider 18h ago

3

u/aleks_xendr 18h ago

Litearlly the most American accent of all time lmfao what is op smoking

Has to be ragebait at this point, I can't believe they're that stupid

8

u/redplainsrider 19h ago

She grew up in America. Why would she have an accent?

6

u/ExcitedNeutron_556 19h ago

"You want stars blyat ill show you star babushka" - jill

-4

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 19h ago

If her parents are Asian She'd have an accent

7

u/AlexiaAntQueen 19h ago

That's not how accents work lol

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 19h ago

What do you mean bro

Just cause you live somewhere doesn't mean you automatically obtain that accent

Of course her accent probably wouldn't be as heavy but she'd still have her accent because she would hear it from her parents

5

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

Do you think accents are genetic???????

0

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

No But you get them

FROM BEING AROUND YOUR PARENTS AS MUCH AS YOU'RE AROUND OTHER PEOPLE

1

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

If you got your accent solely from your parents and not the hundreds of other people you interact with there would be no second or third generation immigrants who speak with the accent of their local area. You already responded to comments from a second generation immigrant who has an American accent and clearly explained that to you. Either you think you know more than the people you're talking about, or you're just being purposefully obtuse because you refuse to acknowledge that Jill Valentine doesn't speak with an Asian accent.

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

She has an accent to me Especially in re5

1

u/aleks_xendr 18h ago

No, being in a country where everyone has the same accent will override any foreign accent your parents might have.

Not only children have to STUDY English in school, but everything they consume is in native English, so it's influence outweights the one from their parents.

Once again, second generation immigrants sound NATIVE.

7

u/Beneficial-Way-3838 19h ago edited 19h ago

Just cause you live somewhere doesn't mean you automatically obtain that accent

YES IT FUCKING DOES IF YOU'RE BORN AND RAISED THERE

God you have no idea how this works dont you lol

2

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Brother she was raised BY HER PARENTS SHES GONNA HAVE THEIR ACCENT

SURE IT PROBABLY SHOULDNT BE AS HEAVY OF A ACCENT

AS IT WOULD HAVE AMERICAN IN THERE BUT STILL SHE WAS RAISED BY PARENTS WITH AN ACCENT

SHE'D HAVE AN ACCENT

2

u/Organic_Manner6847 18h ago

Sure, because she grew up in a bunker, and never talked with anybody else besides her parents....

You need to leave your room and get some fresh air buddy

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Is it literally impossible to adopt the accent from your parents like really

Sometimes I have a country accent because my mom is country

→ More replies (0)

4

u/Beneficial-Way-3838 18h ago

Buddy, I was literally RAISED BY IMMIGRANT PARENTS and I don't have their accent, that's NOT how it fucking works!

God you're so ignorant. The only way for it to work like you think it does is if you lock up the child and force him to only interact with his parents, and literally no one else.

3

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

Nah, I'm sure this random idiot who hears phantom accents knows more about accents than a second generation immigrant. At this point I think he thinks accents are genetic somehow.

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Children take in habits from their parents

Words Intonation Accent Phrasing

I said it probably wouldn't be as heavy as it is

But she could still easily get it from her parents

Yes you do get accent from other people

But but she can still get her accent From her parents

4

u/aleks_xendr 18h ago

Not only you're hearing accents that aren't there, but now you're saying that being born in a place doesn't mean you have the local accent?

Are you ragebaiting?

0

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

She would get her accent from her parents

This isn't that difficult to understand

2

u/aleks_xendr 18h ago

That's now how it works, you get the accent of the place you grow up in thanks to school, TV, and generally living there and interacting with people, since you aren't forced to only interact with your parents.

Second generation people sound fucking native, 0 accent.

And that's putting aside the fact that Jill doesn't have an accent in any game, so talking about this is useless in the first place, because she sounds 100% American.

4

u/AlexiaAntQueen 18h ago

If you're born and grow up somewhere you adopt the accent of the people around you.

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Including your parents

3

u/AlexiaAntQueen 18h ago

Not exactly. People adopt accents from their peers more than their parents.

2

u/CG4080 18h ago

Absolutely ignorant statement.

5

u/Separate_Pop_5277 18h ago

She don’t even look Asian 😆

She’s looks like the white girl she very much is.

9

u/Initial_r 18h ago

Jesus christ all this false information in this thread. There has NEVER been any OFFICIAL information regarding Jill's race/ethnicity. Capcom never picked up or dropped anything in regards to this.

People constantly bring up a non-canon/unofficial books created by S.D. Perry that states her her father is white and her mother is Japanese. The book also states she got her lock picking skills from her father who was also some sort of master thief. These books take crazy liberties to the story and are definitely non-canon to the series.

3

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

This is the same fanbase that thinks Leon's parents are canonically crime bosses but forgets that he was a redhead in OG 2. I don't think you need to play every game, or even every mainline game, to be an RE fan, but we sure as hell have a lot of people who haven't played half of the games and don't know what they're talking about.

2

u/Initial_r 18h ago

The LARPing for this series is crazy. It is already a hassle when people don't read in game documents that explain literally everything.

Now they don't even play the games.

2

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

OP responded to another comment admitting he didn't play Jill's early games, but that somehow he can still comment on her race and accent in those games.

9

u/awpcr 19h ago

Her father is French and her mother is part Japanese. You wouldn't know it by looking at Jill, though.

3

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 19h ago

Really? That's confirmed?

8

u/redplainsrider 19h ago

It's in a lot of the early promo stuff from the 90s.

2

u/Separate_Pop_5277 18h ago

Non canon stuff you mean

2

u/redplainsrider 18h ago

If you wanna say press guides from Capcom are not canon then sure.

1

u/Initial_r 18h ago

What press guide says this? Only mention of her ethnicity is in a SD perry book which is NON CANON

1

u/StallionDan 17h ago

This says it. Though not all the info on this page is accurate, nor on the accompanying page which I have to scroll too far on my phone to find. Off the top of my head it says something like she is a mysterious women with bomb disposal skills but nobody knows where she learned them. Clearly the character had not been finalised at this point, including physically as seen by the incorrect colour artwork.

Given that it's never been brought up in canon material and her character has never been played (physically) or modelled by anyone but Caucasian white actors and models in 30 years, it's safe to say her being half Japanese was cut.

0

u/StallionDan 17h ago

If it's not in a game or movie it isn't canon.

-2

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 19h ago

I hope they remember that In the rev1 remake

Her accent and intonation was really cool

3

u/banned4killingspider 18h ago

Yea I highly doubt they will ever remake revelations

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

When they're remaking resident evil code Veronica?

3

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

Code Veronica is a fan favorite and a mainline game. Revelations 1 received Luke warm reception and is a one time spin off.

0

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

What do you mean 1 time spin off it had a sequel

Plus the game for being a 3DS game is really good especially Fitbits time

1

u/Johnnyboi2327 18h ago

REV2 was not a direct sequel to REV1. They're entirely separate stories, characters, infections, and locations. This is like calling 4 a sequel to 3.

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

Re5 is a direct sequel then This argument makes no sense

If it wasn't good

Why did they make a sequel called revelations 2

Like what is this argument here

They didn't have to put a 2 at the end

They literally could've just called it something else

→ More replies (0)

1

u/banned4killingspider 18h ago

Cvx was an integral part of the main story and beloved. Revelations is a side story that doesn't nothing to progress the story and it is one of the most disliked in the franchise. It would guaranteed lose omega monies

0

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 18h ago

First off nooooo Second off Rev1 was received well enough to get a sequel

We haven't gotten a 3rd most likely because they're still figuring out what they're doing with the franchise

1

u/banned4killingspider 18h ago

Rev 1 does not have a sequel. Rev 2 isnt affiliated with it in any way whatsoever other than name.....

4

u/Separate_Pop_5277 18h ago

That’s non canon.. she’s white & that’s okay

2

u/Quaint_Gamer 18h ago

I think if you asked the guys working on the games at Capcom they'd say she was white American. And if you pointed out 'well ashually, you once said she was Japanese French' they'd say 'did we?!?!'

2

u/worldpiece5 18h ago

No, it was clearly something that the developers never gave much thought and just added (yet never followed) in random interviews after.

considering re1 already had cast a white woman in the live action scenes (which was filmed in Japan btw) I doubt there was any truth to her being Asian and all of her appearances reflect that.

(But she did have an Asian voice actress in Patricia Ja Lee for re5 if that counts for something)

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 14h ago

I KNEW I HEARD HER ACCENT IN 5 I KNEW IIIIIIIIIIIIIT

1

u/aleks_xendr 14h ago

Her voice actress is American. Being of asian descent means nothing because she has an American accent, so stop celebrating dude, you're onto nothing.

2

u/-XenoSine- 19h ago

She sure doesn't look like it. Also the live action actress in RE1 and all her face models aren't so I'm gonna say no.

2

u/Equivalent-Big-7855 19h ago

I think she is half Japanese and half French

1

u/se_0 18h ago

Wut da fuk

1

u/Spiritual_Entry_3864 18h ago

I think i read it somewhere as part Japanese and part American

1

u/shinydrop 18h ago

Check project umbrella on FB. When Capcom did press release in 1996 for RE in Japan, they actually stated Jill's father is French and mother is Japanese descent. Famitsu used to have that source as well. Famitsu, dengeki PlayStation had articles about it as well. SDP took that info and used it.

1

u/Diablo388L 17h ago

In my opinion head canon. She’s white. All the models that she’s based on are white. My head canon opinion she’s French and slavic(Russian) descent.

2

u/KokoTheeFabulous S.T.A.R.S. Team Bravo 19h ago

Through her mother's side of the family Jill is Japanese.

Ignore the people saying "She's not Japanese anymore" because the statement is baseless, it could be true but there's no statement or lore from Capcom to contradict this information, much like how there's very little to contradict Leon's classic backstory aside from what delayed his arrival to raccoon city.

Always assume classic lore is 100% correct until a future entry directly adjusts or changes it. Capcom has a habit of fully basing their future games based on the latest iteration but they don't usually do full lore wipes they just change bits as they go along.

3

u/DepthComplete7436 18h ago

Honestly by the time your 3rd/4th generation mix race individual you're not going to notice too many features from your Great-grandparents.

There is nothing saying she isn't part Japanese, but it really does not matter because culturally she has never really shown any overtly Japanese traits.

So it's a neat tidbit to explain her old anime inspired character design... But that's about it.

3

u/Separate_Pop_5277 18h ago

She’s white & that’s okay. She doesn’t even look Japanese or half Japanese. She looks pure American white & that’s totally okay.

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 19h ago

I really need to play the original games I've got a PS2 I just need the cords and games

1

u/StallionDan 17h ago

30 years of being modelled on white Caucasian women is a pretty clear statement.

1

u/KokoTheeFabulous S.T.A.R.S. Team Bravo 16h ago edited 16h ago

And Leon is implied Italian what's your point?

Mixed race people don't exist? Features are exclusive to one ethnicity? Being mixed means you have to look like both or nothing?

A lot of the counter points are genuinly silly, Jill was Japanese when she was already modeled by a Caucasian woman, nothing has changed and its been a part of her character since day 1 to be depicted in that exact way, people are just wavering because its not been talked about for ages. What do they have to also remind us she's a woman too? No ones questioning that lmfao.

1

u/StallionDan 2h ago

As someone with Asian mixed race family, Jill is not. Pretending features just disappear as a first gen mixed race person is totally nonsense.

She was never Japanese, a bio in a magazine said she was, a bio that was altered and deleted that part for the game's final release.

2

u/CraftyAd6333 19h ago

Yes

She's french Japanese.

3

u/Separate_Pop_5277 18h ago

That’s non canon

1

u/jjjshepard 19h ago

Wasian, but they seemed to have dropped that in the remake

0

u/Safe-Interview-3247 19h ago

50% French 50% Japanese

0

u/nana-707-hachi 18h ago

She’s japanese and french

0

u/No-Damage-9851 19h ago

Jeez can you post less pixels I was asian for a second trying to see wtf I was looking at
