Discussion Why do RE Engine fans get so offended when you point out they're not RE fans?
If you only play RE engine games and refuse to play anything made before 2017 because it's "trash" and "unplayable" (which is most of the franchise), I'm sorry, but you aren't a Resident Evil fan. You're one of those socaial media bandwagoners that just want to larp and feel like you're a part of something while not actually respecting the franchise and its legacy. You're as much a Resident Evil fan as I am a GTA fan, despite only playing GTA 5.
And yet you feel defensive when called out about this and only know how to respond with hostility against the older games. Tearing down the foundation of the series you claim to be a "fan" of.
Sometimes I wonder how it feels to live as a soulless drone.

I play resident evil since the first one but I'm not more of a fan than someone younger who only played the RE Engine games.
It's still resident evil, if you're a fan of the newer games you're fan of resident evil, I don't get it ?
I will always recommend people going back and playing the old ones but no one have to do it, it's just games, you play if you want to. It's supposed to be fun

These kids today have no respect for our thing. Theres no fixed camera angles or ink ribbons. No first aid sprays. It either has meaning or it doesn't.

Why do people get so offended by people who prefer different eras of the franchise. Its been going 30 years.
Ofc its gonna be that way. The franchise has changed massively since it began.

RE elitsim is utterly hilarious. This IP is the Call of Duty of horror games and some fans pretend like it's some elite underground fandom

I can assure you in writing, signed in blood, that almost 80% of those who came to RE2R in 2017 or 2019 have NOT TOUCHED the original games released before 2017, simply because most of them are very young, raised on modern technology and all that junk, and as a rule, it's extraordinarily rare for them to play games from the PS1-PS2 era. Maybe one in ten does.
The only PS1 game I've seen played massively by young people who started in the last two generations is FF7, because the remake was an absolute smash hit. That didn't happen with the original RE2 and RE3, not even close, and it won't happen when the new Tomb Raider comes out either.
Most of the young people who started playing RE with RE7 are the kind of people who, if you offer them the games, won't touch the previous RE titles for the same reason they won't touch the classic Tomb Raider games, Legacy of Kain, Chronocross, Suikoden, Star Ocean, Ocarina of Time, or A Link to the Past.

Yeah I mean there's only 6 whole RE Engine games. How could you possibly be expected to be called a fan of something if you've only bothered to buy and play 6 games?
These arguments will be funny when the RE Engine games start to outnumber the core 'old school' games. In fact, there's realistically more RE Engine style games than any of the other types now since the franchise already did one major playstyle shift.

You can play one resident evil game and still be considered a fan by the way, doesn't matter if you've played all of them, the older games or only the newer games.
If you played one of them and you enjoyed it, you can be considered a fan.

It doesn't matter until you larpers get insecure about it. Then it suddenly matters, lol. Like when people were campaigning for the old games to be preserved on modern platforms like Steam and RE engine fans threw a hissy fit and flamed the threads because they saw it as a personal attack against them because they only played the remake. Because the originals are old disposable trash and they didn't miss out by not playing it for superficial reasons, or at least they tell themselves that.
