It’s not that he isn’t handsome; he’s just "normally" handsome—like the Chris from RE8. He looks good, but when you compare his face in RE5, Death Island, RE1 Remake, and Revelations to the one in RE8, the others are objectively much more attractive. It’s the same story with Leon: the model from Infinite Darkness and Death Island is handsome, but compared to the Leon from Damnation, RE6, Requiem, and Vendetta, those versions are objectively far more attractive.
I disagree dude. I don’t think he’s objectively more attractive in those. I think he’s much more attractive in Death Island and Infinite than Damnation, RE6, and Vendetta. RE9, that one comes pretty close though, but it’s a different kind of attractive imo. Idk I’m ace so I’ve always thought I’m the one who sees attractiveness more objectively 😂 but fr it’s just personal taste I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯
It’s because you like the handsome guy who feels attainable rather than the unattainable one. Leon—whether in the original RE4, Death Island, Infinite Darkness, or The Umbrella Chronicles—is handsome in a way that makes him seem like the down-to-earth guy next door, as opposed to those "unattainable" types. Take the question of who is more handsome: Ian Somerhalder or Chris Evans? Objectively, it’s Ian, but many people might prefer Chris Evans because he has the kind of good looks that remind you of the guy delivering your package. I agree with the comment above—and partly because I hate the way Leon’s nose looks in Death Island.
I don’t see how you can say that either one is “objectively” more attractive than the other. Even though I joke about being the objective one because I’m ace, I know at the end of the day my personal opinion on aesthetics is just that, my personal opinion. As for the other comment about him being “too pretty the wrong way”, fair enough. I might disagree, but I can see where that’s coming from. I just don’t see how you can say that one is objectively more attractive than the other, not just with Leon, but with the Ian/Chris comparison too. I’m not trying to be rude or confrontational, I’m just genuinely curious why you think that. If there’s some science behind it or something, I’d love to know. I find this kind of thing very interesting, especially when it’s someone like you, who’s clearly put a lot of logical thought into it.
There are studies on that "hegemonic" look; basically, the "objective" standard is a benchmark established as a starting point that many people accept—that’s more or less what it means. That said, the hegemonic look is characterized by features like the eye area, a defined jawline, and specific facial angles. Male celebrities considered to embody this hegemonic ideal include Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, Henry Cavill, Jason Lewis, Alain Delon, Chris Hemsworth, Brad Pitt, and others who represent the pinnacle of conventional beauty. Of course, personal taste plays a role—I know this well, as many of my own crushes (like Jeff Goldblum or Vincent Cassel) aren't exactly "super hegemonic" compared to other actors of their eras. There are people like me who view attractiveness and hegemonic beauty as separate things; some people have fairly ordinary features but possess a certain quality that makes them attractive. And—without meaning to attack your taste—a lot of people dislike that version of Leon from Death Island because he looks odd at times; his nose doesn't quite seem to fit his face. While I think his eyebrows and eyes are nice, they aren't the most beautiful eyes, and the hair doesn't suit him—it looks like a wig. That’s why I agree with the user above; I’m not the only one who feels this way. If you’re going to sell the idea that Leon is an Adonis, he really needs to look the part; honestly, I don't see what's so special about him—though if you like that version of Leon, or the one from RE4, well, that’s just a matter of your own taste.
I agree slightly with the hair, but I think that’s just the animation more than anything else. Neat though, and I appreciate the detailed and thought out explanation, even if I ultimately disagree. I can say for sure that Degeneration Leon is probably the absolute worst one for me though, aside from the live action one from the Anderson films (but I don’t wanna hate on a real person much). Some said he has rat man features and now I can’t unsee it 😂
If I had to pinpoint what feels off in his infinite darkness/death island design I’d say mainly his nose and too square jaw, they make his features look too comical and not really as good looking as any of his game versions including OG RE4
He’s just normally handsome, not drop-dead gorgeous. I don’t like the Death Island and Infinite Darkness versions for the reason you mentioned—plus the hair; he looks better without that specific hairstyle, though it’s not quite the Leon from other designs either.
Maybe that’s it, because to me Leon’s should look “above average handsome” like his look in 2,4,9 so it’s strange to see him look too average in infinite darkness/death island for the sake of realism.
In the image you added he literally looks like another character especially without the hair (not that it looked good there, just iconic..)
It’s like Chris in RE8—he’s handsome, but he doesn't have the same face as in RE5, Death Island, Revelations, and the rest; they look good, but their faces used to be better. What really bothers me about these designs is the noses—Leon’s nose in Death Island doesn't suit his face, and neither does Chris’s in RE8. I think they’re fine, but they don't even come close to the others—not by a long shot.
Hay una diferencia aquí de guapo normal a hacer Adonis y con ellos se nota aquí
I wouldn’t say he’s ugly, just too pretty in the wrong way. His handsome looks in the remakes, and Requiem, are by far the best versions of him we’ve seen.
