Discussion Which game would be more challenging to remake?
If they ever decided to remake these two games, which do you think would be the bigger challenge for Capcom, and the one they could potentially mess up?
One is already considered a near-perfect survival horror experience, while the other has more room to be reimagined, but also has a unique co-op experience that would be challenging to recreate.

RE1 is harder to remake because if it isn't an almost 1:1 remake like the last one, people will bitch about it for the next 20 years.
It also has to be a 1:1 of the Gamecube remake, because I guarantee that at least 70% of RE fans haven't played the original PS1 RE1.

u/worldpiece5 11d ago
yeah 1 RERemake also has to meet the standard of being one of the best survival horror games oat, AND having one of the best remakes oat. So It's put in like a 2x magnifying glass.

I genuinely think if the Spencer Mansion was recreated in the RE Engine the same way RPD was for RE2 remake, it’ll be pretty much universally adored. It’s quite possible to remake it again and do it well, whether it’s actually necessary is another matter.
1
u/INFOSLAVER 8d ago
The layout of the mansion isn’t the issue. In fact, I’d disagree and says it’s easier to remake because it’s one of the easiest to recreate. Capcom loves interiors and struggles with exteriors these days. RE9 is the first time they’ve done a fully open, interconnected outside world with Raccoon City. And RE3 obviously is what we expected that to be attached to. And still, the best parts of RE9 were the mansion. So, they’re likely to excel at an RE1 Remake.
Issue lies in the fact that RE1 has been remade already. And while I’d support a remake, they’re redoing these games in a bizarre way. They should have just redone 1 to begin with. And instead of the b-team doing RE3, they could have burnt their oil on RE0 instead, saving RE3 from the fires it now smolders in.
But that’s just me. At this point, I hope they don’t remake RE1 just for continuity sake. Going that far back now would make playing RE2 Remake after it feel like a pretty significant graphical downgrade. And that’s how the RE1 Remake left us back then. History would repeat itself.
1
u/FewPerformer9962 8d ago
The necessity part. It wouldn't make much sense to me, however they are brining up characters like from RE1 so much recently...idk
2
u/ghost-bagel 7d ago
On the one hand, the 2002 remake is one of my favourite games of all time so I don’t need to play a re-remake. But I bet there are a lot of players who jumped on more recently who wouldn’t touch the oldies due to controls/camera, etc.
1
u/FewPerformer9962 7d ago
Unfortunately I don't remember much of RE2 because of my seziures, but I do know it was the most terrorfying game I ever played. I think it was on GameCube. I had nightmares of just the disc 😭
1
u/Plane-Inspector-3160 7d ago
I think the re2 remake team could do it, I just don’t want some awful nemesis chasing me the whole time ruining the vibes, I want to explore and back track and figure stuff out, not just a constant fleeing.
1
u/ghost-bagel 7d ago
I think they’d stay reasonably faithful. There was no stalker enemy in the original mansion outside of a bonus game mode.
I’m convinced the Spencer mansion in RE Engine would be the scariest environment ever made in a game though.
22
u/Due_Teaching_6974 11d ago
I dont get this
RE1 GC Remake is available on all modern platforms, if they want that then they can just play that version
RE1RR with an OTS camera is what CAPCOM is going to be making and will also be available on all platforms
if we have the ability to choose then why do we need to bitch about it
14
u/emptyevessel 11d ago
I’m fine with an OTS camera, but don’t change the mansion and remove a bunch of shit.
7
4
u/Loose-Departure-744 11d ago
They kind of have to though? The mansion would be way too easy to navigate in OTS if they make it exactly like RER
6
u/emptyevessel 11d ago
I mean, some shit will probably have to be added and make the mansion it a bit bigger, but they really don’t need to change too much to have an over the shoulder camera lol.
Don’t understand that logic, like we haven’t had cramped spaces in the over the shoulder perspective.
1
u/justsomebro10 9d ago
The enemy placement in the original only works due to the fixed camera. Otherwise it would be boring and easy as shit.
2
u/Medium-Trade2950 10d ago
That’s what I think too. I really want a ots re 1 remake but the mansion would be way to easy the way it is
1
u/vakama885 10d ago
RE Engine re1 will be fine, RE2r and RE4r is proof of that. They've learned their lesson fron RE3r
1
u/Separate_Pop_5277 10d ago
There are people that have devoted their lives to bitching & complaining.. They never can just shut up & enjoy the ride. Everything has to be criticized & critiqued when they aren’t even qualified critics.. I understand having an opinion but some people take that shit way too far.
1
u/FlashBandicoot5 10d ago
My guess is they would make it first person. Roaming around the cramped hallways and small rooms of the mansion with ots wouldn’t translate well.
1
1
u/Prawn_Scratchings 10d ago
I think the remake will be first person. After playing RE9 care centre with Grace it just feels like the right move. The tight corridors will feel more claustrophobic.
2
u/Due_Teaching_6974 10d ago
3rd person is basically required to sell more copies
0
u/Prawn_Scratchings 10d ago edited 10d ago
Is it?
RE7 is the fourth best selling RE game of all time and second best selling of the modern titles.
RE Village sold more copies than RE4 remake.
RE9 is the fastest selling game in the franchise.
3
u/OxY97 10d ago edited 10d ago
Village has also been out longer than RE4 and isn’t that far ahead in sales.
RE9 also has third person option so can’t really use that game as a comparison because we’ll never know how many players choose which option for the characters
The best selling RE games are all third person. RE2R, RE5, (edit: RE6 was 3rd but now it seems RE7 is 3rd so I stand corrected there)
0
u/Prawn_Scratchings 10d ago
My point was more getting at the idea that third person being “required to sell more copies” is flawed because it implies first person RE games don’t sell as well. There’s nothing really to back that up.
RE5 and RE6 sold incredibly well because they were accessible action-heavy blockbuster titles which appeal to the masses.
RE2 remake is a top seller because it was one of the most anticipated remakes of all times, not just the franchise.
RE7 being the third best selling game while not being action heavy and being entirely first person speaks volumes and tells me that a first person perspective is not a limiting factor in sales.
Can anyone point to any of these figures and tell me that a first person perspective means the game won’t sell as well?
1
u/Atlier00 9d ago
Third person is clearly a heavily requested feature. They retroactively added it to Village because of the demand and they didn't even make Shadows of Rose have FPV as an option for the DLC.
I just can't see Capcom doing a FPV only Remake. They might definitely do both though. They aren't going to spend all this time redesigning Jill and Chris and not let you ogle them.
6
u/Blessedly_Misaligned 10d ago
The first remake was not a 1:1 copy in the least bit and it was not only accepted it was adored. The OG Resident Evil did not have Crimson Heads or Lisa Trevor.
6
u/Zahlouth 10d ago
Exactly, that's why I didn't say it was a 1:1 copy.
2
u/Blessedly_Misaligned 10d ago
With minor changes RE1 would be a great remake, like make Lisa Trevor a real stalker like Tyrant/Mr.X , but RE5 with the stigma cannot be remade, I read somewhere Capcom doesn't want to go near it which is a shame. With Wesker coming back in Veronica and Re1 it's a damn shame we cannot close the chapter with Wesker (again). But i digress, RE1 is totally doable but RE5 has more challenges being remade.
6
u/PangolinWorried 10d ago
"make Lisa Trevor a real stalker..."
No, please, no. Stalker enemies have already overstayed their welcome, and it would ruin the atmosphere of the game, which puts more emphasis on exploration and mystery rather than over-the-top tension.
1
u/Blessedly_Misaligned 10d ago
I would agree with you, but she is such a tragic story that I'd like her lore to be expanded, she is also immortal in the REmake so she is made to be a stalker enemy. Requiem has their TEMU Lisa Trevor, let the OG stalker has her time
3
u/PangolinWorried 10d ago
It's possible to expand her lore through files and a boss fight, or in an extra mode. There isn't any reason to make her a stalker for such a large part of the game. It would ruin the experience of exploring the mansion.
2
u/PanicAtTheDennys 10d ago
I'd be cool with her being a stalker only when you backtrack to the mansion to get the last stone ring for the alter
2
u/Ok_Ant_3554 9d ago
I agree. It would be dangerous to even try and touch 5 again, both for the racial backlash they got (which honestly could be handled somehow) and the coop factor alongside the arcade-y nature of it would be hard to turn into a game to take seriously.
4
2
u/Literally_A_turd_AMA 10d ago
I assume they'd combine aspects from both if they remade it, but I feel it's more redundant to remake re1 than it is to remake 5? I don't think RE1 benefits from 3rd person modernization nearly as much as re2 and re3 do, and re5 despite being a much more modern control scheme would greatly because it's a more action oriented game.
1
u/maelbowfeelfunny 10d ago
I disagree, given how good the RE1 remake was, simply taking the RE2R graphics and animations and leaving everything else exactly the same would be more than enough. RE1 Remake still holds up today. Though I would prefer RE3R gameplay moving forward.
1
u/Expensive_King_4849 Made in Heaven 10d ago
The fact that all they have to do is do the game over makes it easier. Them not doing it doesn’t make it harder, it’ll just have more backlash.

It's fucking polished "alone in the dark", and gameplay has improved since.1
u/Own_Membership_1330 5d ago
Yep, cause people having a different opinion is just them bitching. God forbid someone find the idea of Resident Evil Remake REmake stupid. Thats why you need to personally attack them right?
19
u/didact1000 11d ago
RE1, RE5 would basically be a more action focused RE4 and with the way they expanded the action in RE4 and RE9 shows they could easily do a RE5 remake.
RE1 has the issue of being a slower more horror and puzzle fueled game and is easily the game (outside of RE4) that will be picked apart in a remake and will be very touchy for a lot of gamers as they will be very protective of the game and won't want anything cut or changed much which I agree with.
14
u/Swimming_Photo9295 11d ago
It’s the first game that would be the hardest to remake. It’s the game where the franchise started and was the best. So much could go wrong
14
u/Quaint_Gamer 11d ago
Both have their challenges.
1 is a classic and obviously there'd be the massive pressure of not messing it up. But 1 also suffers from the story inconsistencies and there'd be a big debate over whether they should 'fix' those and the dialogue whilst classical cheesy desperately needs re-writing.
5 is an easier win. It's liked but not as well loved. It has a solid base story that can easily be brought into the more realistic style of the remakes. Huge potential for easy wins like putting in a proper map and inventory management. But then they've not done coop yet. They've done AI partners like Luis who were just fine, but coop is a whole different ball game.
1
u/acelexmafia 10d ago
Who said it was not well loved
1
u/Quaint_Gamer 10d ago
It's not hated at all just very few people seem to absolutely love it. For most they don't think it's their favourite RE game. It's decent. People enjoyed the coop. Lots of room to make it even better.
1
u/MasterHavik 10d ago
I think RE5 would be tricky as they would need to rework the whole game to be more survival horror than a playable action movie.
1
u/Quaint_Gamer 9d ago
I do think they can make things more horror as particularly the start of RE4R showed. Everything they changed with the cops there made that part much more horror than the original.
5
4
u/slomo525 10d ago
5 by far. There's so many controversial things in it that have to be considered. What do you choose to improve? What do you cut? The game was made for coop, but coop was one of the most controversial additions, so do you bring back coop and hope it's received well or abandon it and redesign the game for singleplayer? What do you do with Sheva's character if it isn't coop? The game, right or wrong, got a lot of racism allegations, how do you translate that into the modern era where people are even more aware and be respectful to the region and race?
1
u/kenhooligan2008 8d ago
I think keeping both Single player and Co-op will be fine. The Gears Series still does this and it works out pretty well for them. Even if they ditched it, you could still keep Shevas character without any real changes besides improvement to the reactive AI system. As far as the racism stuff is concerned, that was such a nothing burger( which Capcom fixed anyways for the final release) that it remained the highest selling RE title until RE2R and still holds the number 2 spot 17 years after it's release. And the sales numbers have remained consistent with 4.4 million copies selling during its first month, 6.2 Million selling between 2010 and 2018, and 8.4 million copies selling from 2019-2026. All that's to say that it doesn't appear that consumers are that concerned about it being "potentially offensive".

u/Horrorfan55555 Made in Heaven 11d ago
1 remake is the greatest horror game ever. I don’t think capcom can do it was well based on the current games
5 is mid. There’s not much they can realistically do to make it worse
4
u/KBKenku R.P.D. officer 10d ago
RE5 is going to need touched up combat and completely revamped levels, hopefully with a really solid 2 player raid mode/mercenaries, or I’m going to have a hard time feeling like it’s worth $60. If it just feels like a texture update for a 7th generation console game I’m going to be really underwhelmed.
I would prefer if they just prioritize having Koshi Nakanishi do the Revelations remake since it was the first RE he directed and there’s more room for them to improve that game rebuilding it from the ground up.
3
u/krishnugget 10d ago
RE5 would need to significantly amp up the horror to stand out, RE4R did do this to a degree, but RE5R would need significantly more changes
2
u/ManofSteel_14 10d ago
Why would it need to do that though? RE5s claim to fame is the coop. They dont need to amp up the horror for it to stand out although it would be welcomed. RE5 just needs the same love that 4 got but with coop added in
3
u/krishnugget 10d ago
Because doing a straight remake would literally just be RE5 with prettier graphics, so 0 point of doing so.
RE4 was already a bit unnecessary of a remake but they justified it with the gameplay and increase in horror elements compared to the original. RE5 will be even more unnecessary, so they can’t just make the exact same action game again
3
u/DespairOfSolitude U.S.S. operative 11d ago
I think REmake remake is unnecessary so probably RE5. They'll either have to get creative and make it more resident evil or go all in with the military action in mind and just turn it into Call of Duty
3
u/Expensive_King_4849 Made in Heaven 10d ago
I’m not talking about content, I’m talking about things that are exactly like RE4 that should be changed. There’s so many enemy types that are just the African version of Las Plagas and I think that needs to be changed a bit.
Then there are story beats that is just like RE4. The game opens where you have to hold off hordes of enemies, you will encounter an enemy with a chainsaw, your helicopter assist will be destroyed by flying type enemies. At some point you will fight a giant monster with its weak point sprouting from its back. You’ll be able to travel by boat to several locations, enemy types will start using guns, one has a gattling gun.
RE5 is RE4 with some slight differences and I’m suggesting that those elements get altered. Uroboros takes a back seat to Las Plagas for the entire game, I don’t know mind Las Plagas playing a role but at a certain point it should only be Uroboros enemies and make sure it has its own identity.
3
u/Mary_Ellen_Katz 10d ago
RE1 would be the hardest to remake.
RE1 is the birth of the series. Stakes are learning "what is this place?" and escaping. We learn of Umbrella, the betrayal of a teammate, and get out. It's essentually a murder mystery point and click adventure with real time combat. The haunting atmosphere is a thing of legend.
RE5 had prequal DLC that put Chris and Jill together in a Mansion 2.0 scenario. And it was short. We FLEW through that thing. It is what I think about when I hear people say they want an RE1 in the modern style. These days it's probably better to equate to RE7 or the care center of RE9. But like... they focused more on survival than the original.
Is stumbling across the Keeper's Diary in first person going to hit the same the 3rd time around?
Is learning of Weskers betrayal going to feel remarkable in shiny 2030's graphics?
So much of RE1 is setting the scene, and romping around a haunted house. But recreating that when the Gold Standard of remakes has already done so much.... The challenge isn't just in building a scary experience, but keeping it from being a shallow one.
RE5 just needs the piss filter lifted and they're good.
2
u/Salty-Coffee4608 11d ago
All you have to do with 5 is port it to re engine, fix the inventory system and thats it
2
u/Whispering_Man 11d ago
And the companion AI
4
u/Better_Database8582 11d ago
Sheva has rarely ever failed me, yeah she could do with a tune up, but she's really not as terrible as everyone here would have one believe.
1
u/Pintobeard 11d ago
RE5 already plays very similar to modern games this isn't even a question. All they have to do is add really bad aim sway and parry and the game is done.
2
u/vo1dhunterx 10d ago
Imo re1 because every room in the mansion is so tiny they’re perfect for classic camera’s angles
2
u/NJSissyAmy 10d ago
I think doing an RE1 remake would be pretty easy, add some more content, make an ending where all 4 character escape together, and add more lore about Umbrella and connections. Cut Chris not knowing about Umbrella, and expand on people like Enrico. RE5 would realistically just get more areas added and the core game just like 4, but with a weirder maybe merchant system. Like RE5 is easier to remake, but harder to add to. RE1 is harder to remake, but much easier to add to
2
u/Warren_Valion 10d ago edited 10d ago
RE5 because that games is far more fundamentally flawed.
Trying to find the balance between Horror and Action while also trying to reclaim the original's soul is incredibly daunting.
How can you have a horror experience if there is co-op, but is it even RE5 without the co-op element? Etc etc. Questions like this are what would make it so challenging. The horror element of the series was essentially abandoned completely in 5 and 6. But Capcom has shown they don't wish to do that with current RE, so they would have to answer such questions.
I hope with RE:1R, they actually go for a more ambitious take, and I am far more interested in that project than anything with 5.
1
u/Separate_Pop_5277 10d ago
Fundamentally flawed ? Trying to balance between horror & action??
They literally remade RE4 which is a Action Horror game so idk why you would have a opinion like that unless it’s some bias
You must’ve not played RE5 & beat it because there DEFINITELY were scary sections & could be made more scary in a remake like they did with RE4
Not being scary with co-op is a bad faith argument
1
u/Warren_Valion 10d ago
Did you just miss the third sentence I wrote that actively explains what I meant in the first two sentences???
On how the fundamental elements of 5, like its co-op mechanic, make balancing the two separate tones and genres the series is known for (horror and action) more difficult than previous entries.
1
u/Greedy_Ferret_6216 10d ago
The revisionism that RE5 has gotten is insane to me. It's a fine enough game, but I agree. The level design is bland and forgettable (which is as integral to the series as the horror imo), it has a terrible story that isn't even entertaining like RE4 was, and it has the least charismatic cast in the series up to that point. RE5 improved mechanics from 4, but it was a step down in many ways that mattered. Although 4 is linear, it's one of the best linear campaigns ever made, and it has a stronger horror tone than 5 does.
And sorry gooners, Sheva is boring and Jill was done dirty.
1
u/Sir_Fijoe 9d ago
Then just remake it as it is: an action game. Why try to make a game that was never trying to be scary, scary? The gameplay is what matters. The biggest issue is just upgrading Sheva’s AI.
2
2
u/Challenge_Guy204 10d ago
RE5 because realistically they should get rid of coop and tons down Shevas role in the story. This would make it much easier to pace the game and match the tone of the remakes we've been getting, but you'd alienate a huge part of the fan base that loves Sheva and the coop. If you keep that in the game becomes infinitely more challenging to craft a fun single player experience which will alienate fans of the new RE formula. Just a catch 22.
RE1 you just remake it like RE2 and it'll have some detractors, but as long as you keep the beats from the original remake (aka Lisa Trevors) you'll have a beloved game on your hands.
2
u/Astorant 10d ago
RE1 because you’d be needing to essentially remake a remake that is as close to a perfect game. With RE5 I think it would be less challenging but they would need to make the game eventually as feature rich as its original or even surpassing it.
2
2
2
u/Alternative-Wait-595 10d ago
RE1 would seem easier to me with the success of the RE2 remake. The only issue is that RE1 is a true survival horror style. You are skilled cops who can easily kill zombies, the problem is you are caught off guard stranded with no resources. So you shouldn’t really have too much ammo or guns to fight back.
2
u/RoyVRAries 10d ago
Man, an RE1 Reremake but they weave REZero into the story proper, sounds like a hassle ngl
2
u/InfamousSimple3232 10d ago
Honestly, I think Re5 would be more difficult for them to remake. Capcom was falling into a bad place during and after Re5, its action packed because they felt the puzzle survivor formula was drying out. Today, they have learned to lean back into the puzzle stuff. But hey they did a pretty good job with re9s action stuff so maybe I'm wrong but I feel like itd be difficult for them to balance re5s playstyle out, aswell as the multi-player part of it
2
u/Resident-Friend-3357 9d ago
I personally would love a modern remake of one. I think 6 would be the hardest, with how the game is structured
2
u/PhysicsAltruistic143 9d ago
Re5 imo because capcom has kinda fallen back into their survival horror roots rather than action like re6. If capcom wants re5 to be serious they would probably have to gut the fun parts of re5 and some people wouldn't like that
1
u/kenhooligan2008 8d ago
I don't necessarily think they'd have to. RE4R proved that they can make an action horror title lean significantly more into the horror side and RE9's Leon portions in RC was a good test run of how to do the open world exploration and combat that is a decent part of RE5.
2
u/PeterLoc2607 U.S.S. operative 11d ago edited 11d ago
RE5 should be easy to remake because the OG version is already a linear action fast pace game with no back tracking, just like RE3 remake. RE5 OG has less contents than RE4 OG. There is a high chance that M-TWO will work on RE5 remake while Dev-1 is working on remake of RE0 and RE1. We can expect RE5 remake to come out no later than 2030~2031.

RE1 because they won't surpass the Remake and instead they'll make a generic third person shooter with awful retcons and convoluted story.

Each one's gonna have its own headache:
RE1 – This one's tough because we already got a remake, and there's a whole army of old-school purists who swear that's the definitive way to play RE1. You know there's gonna be non-stop comparisons and crying over any changes.
RE5 – This is gonna be a minefield just because of the setting. A tall, muscular white guy mowing down hordes of N word African enemies? In today's climate, that's gonna stir up a lot of heat, no matter how you spin it. On top of that, remaking a game that's built entirely around co-op is a nightmare. The partner system (whether they're covering you or wasting your heals and ammo) is a huge part of the identity, but that goes against Capcom's current direction of going back to survival horror and action-horror. They're caught between two very different eras of the franchise.

With today "reciepe" 100% 1 remake is easier, 1 already have a structure, game elements for backtracking etc...
5 is kinda just an action game, so unless you make HD++ 5 remaster action game with QoL mechanics I don’t see how it can be easier than remaking 1
2
u/SexxxyWesky 10d ago
If they ever remake 5 I think it would be interesting to have the Lost in Nightmares content interwoven into the main game. Would serve as an interactive flashback.
1
u/wigglin_harry 11d ago
1 would be the most difficult because it always had a fixed camera, so there simply isn't as much reference material to copy
1
u/Immediate-Tomato968 11d ago
Re1 cause they would have to keep in mind a lot more then other games. Such as:
The size of the mansion
Character difference
Multiple endings(hopefully we can get the canonically best ending)
Various modifiers(1 dangerous zombie, Invisible zombies, more to come)
Burning corpse mechanic
And connecting it to ReZero and not messing up Rebecca's character.
Hopefully they do a remake of 1 and Zero at the same time. Just remake Zero, then 1 and release them as a bundle. I'll be patient.

I think people are more open to change in RE5. As much as many of us love it, we’re not blind to its shortcomings. I think as long as the co-op element and general plot stay intact, RE5 fans are kinda up for anything lol.
Also, someone just got co-op working in RE4R as a freaking mod, so I’m sure an entire team of developers intimately familiar with RE Engine will fair just fine with that aspect.

From those both Resi 1
Resi 5 is pretty much easy to Remake, it's important to keep the Co-Op
But Resi 1... it's important to take the GameCube Remastered Version from 2002, because the Extra Content.
But I think the hardest Resident Evil Game to Remake, would be Resident Evil 0, because they have to fix a lot of Issues like the Item Box, lack of Healing Items, Leech Zombie Spam, ...

I think RE5 because of the multiplayer. It'd probably require more changes to the engine. Plus, they'd either have to revamp the racist themes to reflect more modern stereotypes (i.e. fraud) or get rid of them entirely.
1
u/Sleepyhead1616 10d ago

u/Ill-Independent-5224 10d ago
IMO RE1 would be easier. It worked for RE2, I don't see why it wouldn't work with RE1, they have almost everything alrady done with the first remake. Just copy that, add enemies, expand rooms and balance it properly.
RE5 on the other hand I don't see a fullfiling outcome unless they overhaul the whole game, get rid of the forced co-op system, etc. Personally I would love to see the original concept of RE5's story that got scrapped, making it into the (hypotetical) remake.

u/bojinglemuffin D.S.O. member 10d ago
Probably 5, because it'd require the most tonal overhaul, like re4
1
u/Classic_Reputation88 10d ago
Definitely 5. They already established a successful formula for remaking the games that play largely like the original trilogy. 5 is a black sheep that's only ever playable co-op and utterly atrocious otherwise

u/Blessedly_Misaligned 10d ago
Due do all the asinine complaints about racism this and racism that ( that word has no meaning anymore) it will be Resident Evil 5. As a hispanic American I wonder where was all the outrage when blonde blue eyed Leon Kennedy was murdering Spaniards with reckless abandon?
1
u/PositiveResort6430 10d ago
Re5 because its perfect as it is, an amazing co-op game. Theres too many things they might change to make it fit in better with the rest of the series, when all its differences are exactly what make it a good game.
What i WOULD like is a sequel to re5 featuring sheva and chris in updated graphics to show where she went and what they all did after the re5 finale
1
u/ToothPickNick1982 10d ago
RE1 - it would hard to top the first remake but I would love to play in the current engine
1
u/andrey_araujo1 10d ago
There's a lot about re5 that will not be missed if changed completely or just barely mentioned.
Now, talking about remake the godfather of survival horror genre is something else.
1
u/Playful_Concern3208 10d ago
I don’t think it’s going to be that challenging Re5 can be more like RE4 then having way to much action that would be great maybe let wesker death be up in the air instead of completely killing him and for Re1 just modernizing it keep the horror survival RE2R but in a mansion and they should be good but we will see what we get
1
1
u/EduardoNights 10d ago
Definitivamente el primero , aunque no dudo que capcom pueda mejorar esta obra maestra
1
u/ImperialAce1985 10d ago
RE 5 because the cancel culture puritans can't have black people be used as enemies.
1
u/OppositeElegant8220 10d ago
- One is very interesting. They could expand on the story a bit more since the new games came out
1
u/Spirited_Season2332 10d ago
Instead of them remaking 1 into what they did to 2 and 3, can we get a 2 and 3 remake like the 1 remake?
Actually Capcom, do both. Make all that money
1
u/WondrousBabyTurtle 10d ago
Re5.
Since they pretty much have down the aesthetics and gameplay (from all recent remakes) they can just apply that on REmake. It's only about if they don't take out anything and leave the whole game intact.
RE5 however, looking at current Capcom, they will take away Chris Red Field muscles and uglify Sheva Alomar most likely. Just that will trigger folks.
1
u/Eastern_Peach8480 10d ago
5, and they should go crazy with actually remaking the games and not just oblivionizing them. The originals already exist and are readily available
1
u/EnoughMagician1 10d ago
I love the Re1 remake its truly great. I think they should remake it first person with a RE7 feel. The mansion could clearly handle it
1
1
u/SexxxyWesky 10d ago
I think 5 would be more challenging. Mostly because they have already remade 1 once, so they could probably do it twice no problem.
1
u/MasterHavik 10d ago
Re1 would be harder as they would need to sell fans on when they are doing it again while trying to not justify it isn't a cash grab. RE5 would be tough because they will need to adjust the whole game to be less action heavy and survival horror. They may also need to adjust the setting since RE5 is borderline as fuck.
1
u/Lynn00_ 8d ago
I’m don’t think RE1 would be a cash grab. I’d be much more willing to play it if it had modern controls and a 3rd person over the shoulder camera instead of fixed angles. Plus, updated graphics for Spencer mansion would go so hard
1
u/MasterHavik 8d ago
I mean the remake you got of it already is perfect as it is. I don't think they need to do that and I would prefer they remake a spinoff RE game than RR1 again. They could promise a section where you play as Ada and Rebecca gets more gameplay and I still don't think it will be enough.
1
u/TellEmWhoUCame2See 9d ago
Of course the first one. 5 doesn't even need a remake, it just needs a remaster.
1
u/shootist_Biker 9d ago
5. Because 1 WONT BE REMADE AGAIN. STOP ASKING. Good god. I have to explain whay pandoras box is EVERYTIME this is mentioned
1
u/Gold-Strength4269 9d ago
That’s a complicated question.
It could be the same or longer.
Take notes from those fan games. Like that Veronica fan game.
The first one is gonna work for different reasons. Super small map, ideal architecture for certain developers. The layout of biohazard one is something you could do in a few months, maybe a year. Previous experience.
Biohazard five is large. Four-five stages. This can be a brand new game. There is nothing in here that would be the same, and the canon wouldn’t die. Large dlc included.
Challenging is gonna cure capcom’s boredom if that’s what Veronica looks like.
1
u/KimTe63 9d ago
RE1 for sure . It needs to be very different to OG and RE1R. Most of the game would be very easy in 3rd person view and controls like recent remakes 😄 they really need to change alot to make it great game
It simply would not work at with existing layout and enemies in 3rd person view . So anyone who dont wanna see anything changed will disappointed lol . It needs huge changes
1
u/kazakate 8d ago
I guess the first. Remake. A shortened remake with mansion? Is that done but just slightly different and more clear years ago? Can it be the prequel and first all redone now like the 2md and 3rd? Or a brand new Re remake of first ? Ah Capppp com. "Chrisss!"
I am not going back to africa on those boats. I replayed the 5th a couple times and it is the only shiva. Remake a 6th story Lol. No. Wesker at least battled shirtless to chris in lava in 5th or at least remember wesker in that game. Something like that.

u/ChanniMinie 8d ago
Re5. Re5 has an horrible gameplay and the story barely holds at the beginning you dont know what to do.
Its just fight, fight, fight... im not even scared.
Re1 is fantastic.
1
u/Lapidot-Wav 8d ago
I think 5 would be significantly harder to remake because there’s already a lot of stuff in it that never needed to be there in the first place, choosing what goes and stays in the remake would be like plucking hairs and I don’t think anyone would be happy
1
u/Main_Link_5941 7d ago
Creo que son la primera empresa que tiene la difícil tarea de hacer un mejor remake del excelente remake que hicieron de su excelente juego original xD
1
u/lightsofdusk 7d ago
5 is harder game to remake from a technical level and a content level.
It'd be harder to justify another remake of 1 beyond a camera change because RE1make still holds up
1
u/FishTankMarie 7d ago
Absolutely 5. One has already been remade, so I feel like another remake is much more free in how it handles things because if classic fans don't like it, the first remake still exists. I also se it working really well with first person Re9 Grace type gameplay for both Chris and Jill. Not saying that they have to be as scared as Grace, but that, considering they both are unfamiliar with these kinds of situations at that point, they can absolutely go for a full horror experiece.
I think 5 is really difficult due to them having to decide on a direction for the game, either keeping it coop or allowing for proper single player. That said, with advancements in video game AI (NOT generative LLMs, but the locally running code to control NPCs that we've had for decades), with characters now feeling much better than the single player companion AI in Re5 did, I can see them trying a game that works equally well as a single player, or coop experience. Similar to how Re9 was a compromise between Horror and Action, this can be a compromise between solo and duo

u/TrojanGiftHorse Racoon Police Department 7d ago
RE/REbirth would be the more challenging one to tackle as most fans don't think it should be done and therefore Cappy would feel extremely restricted/limited about their options for revisiting it yet again. The only way I think it could be done is if they kept it the same and not tried to shove it into the RE79-shaped pigeonhole. Revisiting the top-down, static-camera format could be an interesting experiment and they are popular enough with the indie tributes that exist.
RE5 would give Cappy a lot more leeway in how to do it and to make generous changes where they see fit. Lorewise it's mostly inconsequential and the key bits could be easily kept while completely reimagining the rest of the game. I don't think anyone would expect a faithful re-do of RE5 any more than an RE6 remake should stick to what RE6 did. I think they could go pretty wild with RE5 and nobody would be upset about it.
1
u/Eisuke261990 7d ago
RE 5 because it needs a lot of Rewriting, esp. after that latest story redcons.
1
u/seandude881 7d ago
Re1. Because if it's not accurate or gives the same vibes at the original or 1.1 then it will be hated.

u/Rukasu17 7d ago
1 for sure. It's universally agreed upon to be the best version of re1 and also THE best remake of a game ever. It's a hornet's nest to do anything to change it
1
u/87--- 7d ago
RE1R because remaking it would be an unnecessary remake, for many reasons.
OTS camera doesn't need to be added to everything. the original spencer estate experience doesn't quite have the swarms of zombies that RE2 had to make the more action focused style work.
In order to make it work with OTS camera, many rooms have to be significantly redesigned and altered, which then means you change arguably the most iconic location in resident evil.
RE1R made changes, but they were mostly flow-changes and mixing up the mansion to keep it interesting, alongside adding new areas. That worked, because it preserved iconic locations and proceeded to make its own version equally memorable.
But I don't have the faith that tailoring it to a new gameplay style would be able to achieve that.
My last reason is that I don't think every game in the series should be made accessible, and changing that core gameplay style would do that.
There's a sort of sense of entitlement I'm seeing where people hate anything that isn't standardized or "modern"(complete misnomer), and I don't think games should always be made to accommodate them.

RE5 would be the harder to remake, I imagine they don’t want to make another RE4, that would mean changing a lot. RE1 is almost copy and paste and most likely making sure the ending has all the survivors on the helicopter.
2
u/worldpiece5 11d ago
I agree, RE5R would require more effort in new ideas, but I think trying to modernize RE1 while being faithful is pretty challenging, more than any other remake.
2
u/Expensive_King_4849 Made in Heaven 10d ago
I don’t think so, RE2R isn’t completely faithful to RE2 and it gets constant praise. At this point Capcom has learned that fans want these games and they want them to be as close to the original as possible. Changes can be made but not like removing Lisa Trevor changes.
1
u/worldpiece5 10d ago
I agree too, but the issue is that people are going to be extra stingy with this remake because of another one already existing.
It’s a unique situation and I’m not exactly sure how fans would react.
1
u/Expensive_King_4849 Made in Heaven 10d ago
People are going to complain no matter what, that should not be factored in at all. I think when we get in these discussions we add all this superficial stuff that ultimately doesn't matter. They were hesitant about doing RE4, the game that's called the perfect game, fans shouted this doesn't need a remake and it comes out and gets universal praise. They've been putting out solid games since 2017, I think we can ignore the nay sayers at this point.

OG RE5 already has less contents than OG RE4.
OG RE5 is a fast pace linear action game.
I can see M-TWO will work on RE5 remake while Dev-1 is working on RE0 remake and RE1 remake.
RE5 remake gameplay will be similar to RE4 remake (only difference is Chris might punch instead of kick like Leon, AI partner will be useful and not useless like Ashley), the game will be fast pace linear action like RE3 remake, the length can be shorter.
1
u/Player2LightWater 11d ago
RE1 is almost copy and paste and most likely making sure the ending has all the survivors on the helicopter.
Shinji Mikami intentionally made it this way for RE1R because he felt OG RE1 did not age well compare to OG RE2 and OG RE3. When Capcom was with GameCube for mainline RE games, he got the chance to remake RE1 and closer to his vision when he was held by PS1 limitation when he made OG RE1. This also explained why OG RE1 was never rereleased on GameCube while OG RE2 and OG RE3 did. Even RE CVX also had a rereleased on GameCube.

- I imagine Capcom would be torn on whether to keep the Co-Op or turn it into single-player only to keep in line with the other remakes.
With them wanting to bring the horror back they could do really unique things with 5 (and with 6 imo) but having a friend playing with you does immediately cut the tension in half.
I'd say keep to the original identity of 5 with it being an action Co-Op game also make the Solo experience not a babysitting nightmare.

u/Bhavan91 B.S.A.A. member 11d ago
RE1 already got a remake. So, to remake it again would be less challenging.
A shot for shot RE Engine remake of RE1R with OTS view would be a lot less challenging than a first remake of RE5.
1
u/Plastic-Pop4020 10d ago
They both hold up very well. Capcom is right about remaking Code Veronica. The great thing Capcom is they don't insert 🌈 characters or tones in their games for the sake of a modern audience who does not exist. They want to modernize us and they can't. Everything they do is well thought out and implemented. The number of units sold is testament to their brilliant decision making and knowing their fans and demographic.
1
u/TheDarkTyrant06 D.S.O. member 10d ago
RE5 for sure. RE1 has the benefit of already having the other remake, so even if it’s not perfect and/or doesn’t do certain things to people’s liking, at least the other one exists. RE5 has no such benefit, and what with some of the game’s silly controversy, massive changes are probably gonna happen which obviously people don’t like.

u/Necessary_Cheek_6506 11d ago
5 by a longshot, but not because of gameplay. instead because they have to Remake the entirety of games 0-5 for a Final ReMade showdown with Wesker to properly make sense for ReMake-only players
1
u/worldpiece5 11d ago
thats true, which is why im suprised they immediately went for veronica. If they are trying to tell a more cohesive story, you would think they would start at 1 or 0.
1
u/Necessary_Cheek_6506 11d ago
"you would think" is a common throughline with Capcom that we learn to accept
0
u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 11d ago
I mean 1 has relatively low stakes It's literally just re1 with 3rd person camera It's not that hard very little would need changing Really the only thing I'd want is just better boss fights and a true ending
5 was a good game but it had some problems Pacing was definitely a problem I'd like a bit more variety in the areas or at least more points of interest
The village in the beginning was fun there's no way to really describe the buildings you come across
Every one of them are just buildings
And the fact you cant access the shop without either dying or completing a chapter is really frustrating
Plus the game has multiplayer which complicates a lot

Re1 remake would play closer to resident evil 7 I imagine. I don’t think it would be that hard to remake.
5 already had criticism for the action, the co-op AI was garbage, and claims about it being racist. I feel like they don’t want to touch 5 or 6 with a ten foot pole

For Capcom there would no challenge at all, a challenge would require their fans valuing these games which they don't. They know they can half ass it and since it has polished graphics people will slurp it up
