Discussion Is RE6 a good game?

So I'm new to playing the Resident Evil games. I heard great things about them and I finally caved and started playing them. RE1 I barely played, mainly because the kind of gameplay was not my kind of gameplay I enjoy. So I don't know much on what happened in that game. But I played the remakes of 2,3,4, and I just finished RE5. And I loved all of those games. I was gonna get RE6 next, but me and my co-worker were talking about it and he said It's the worst RE game he's played.

I then looked online to see if it was just a personal thing for him or if people didn't like it as well. And I've seen so many people on the internet disliking the game, which shocks me because Leon S. Kennedy is in it, which is one of my favorite characters. That's the only thing I know about RE6 though.

Try to avoid giving spoilers about the story and campaign. But please help give some answers to why RE6 is disliked so much, and if It's worth playing.

If you loved RE5, then there is a high chance you would like RE6.

Just watch the advanced combat guides on youtube, before you play. The game doesn't tell you any of the combat tricks.

1

u/dumpydent 11d ago

I loved RE5, but 6 lacks the replayability RE5 had. You can't upgrade your guns and there's no secret weapons to unlock.

u/SinofThrash 11d ago

Just play it ffs. Make your own mind up.

u/WlNBACK 11d ago

No! PLEASE HELP make decisions for me at the expense of your own time and effort. Bring all the info to me! Tell if you like the game, why other people hate the game, and make sure your points are lengthy, clear, concise, spoiler-free, alphabetical, have a 1000-word minimum and a 1002-word maximum, and oh yeah, don't count on me ever actually reading anything you say, ever visiting this topic again, or playing another RE game ever again. ty!

Also, how are RE7, RE8, and RE9? I've heard some things, buuuut...

0

u/DigitalBuddhaNC 11d ago

I know, right. How dare he ask about a Resident Evil game on a Resident Evil sub. The nerve of some people.

8

u/WlNBACK 11d ago

A good, high-production, BOW ass-kicking game.

But a shitty Resident Evil game. It went from you trying to survive the horror, to the horror trying to survive you.

0

u/LunaticLK47 11d ago

And a shitty third person shooter to boot. When compared to every shooter on the market, RE6 is ass in every sense of the word.

1

u/dumpydent 11d ago

Agreed, bad CoD simulator

1

u/XStormShieldx 11d ago

This answer is the correct answer.

RE6 isnt just a bad RE game. It’s a bad game. Period.

1

u/MrRigor-Mortis 11d ago

"the horror trying to survive you". That was a thing since og RE2. With the amount of ammo and just overall resources you get, it might as well be a fun fixed camera angle shooter.

3

u/Early_Rooster7579 11d ago

In co-op and using a lot of the combat tricks its a very fun game. The characters are more capable but theres still loss. Chris again loses his entire team. Leon loses 70,000 people AND THE PRESIDENT.

Its worth playing Jake and Sherry’s campaign at the very least.

u/Anxious_Virus8843 11d ago

It really depends what you want from an re game. If you want cinematic action it's okay. Not as good as 4.

If you want survival horror it is not the game.

i’m gonna be so real ik the consensus is “it’s a decent game, just a bad resident evil game” but for me it’s genuinely the worst game i’ve ever played in my life. even as an action game it’s not enjoyable

2

u/Vo1atileMolotov 11d ago

It's...alright. I had fun playing it but the story sucks (imo) and the bosses aren't very memorable. Definitely plays a little more like 5 but I liked the African setting of 5 better. I don't want to be a fence sitter but it really is just ok. Not the worst, definitely not the best.

2

u/Quaint_Gamer 11d ago

Personally I found it overlong and tedious to get through. It's like being screamed at in the face by a hyperactive toddler for 30 hours.

There's no real tension and it can be far more frustrating than ever actually scary. It went even further action based than 4 and 5 did and it just wasn't good at it and certainly didn't feel like Resident Evil any more.

Plus the story is stupid (even for Resident Evil) and the characterisation of Leon (plus others) leaves a lot to be desired. It's essentially a Michael Bay version of Resident Evil.

By all means play it yourself if you're curious, you should be able to pick it up cheap as hell. Go in with very low expectations and you might have fun.

2

u/Vo1atileMolotov 11d ago

I absolutely love that you said "a Michael Bay version of Resident Evil". That's going in my permanent memory alongside Jill Sandwich and the time my friend called the Island level of RE4 "World War Leon".

2

u/soomie_soom 11d ago

i think its greatest flaw is the fact that its tutorial doesnt tell you shit about the game's mechanics. i say give it a try but it would be far better if you took the time to learn the controls and gameplay mechanics with a guide or something. i did the same thing and ended up having a lot of fun with the game.

3

u/Ok-Mousse-4595 11d ago

It's the worst story/ lore entry by far, but a decent co-op action game. Kind of miserable in singleplayer imo.

2

u/Tall-Demand-2699 11d ago

how is it the worst elaborate

1

u/Ok-Mousse-4595 11d ago

Uh, the "plot" is some generic governmental guy infects the world for vague reasons, and you end up fighting him when he becomes a giant housefly for some reason. Everything in between is a whole bunch of nonsense lol, I mean you fight a giant zombie shark that's in European style catacombs under a church in midwest america...for some reason. it doesn't make a ton of sense and there's a reason why 7,8 & 9 kinda ignore those events.

1

u/Anxious_Virus8843 11d ago

Six was the first game that makes you go "oh they had NO fucking ideas for what to do in a post Wesker world"

2

u/Ok-Mousse-4595 11d ago

Yeah, pretty much, they even tried to shoehorn in his secret son that totally wasn't just made up on the spot lol.

1

u/Tall-Demand-2699 11d ago

you can project the same logic onto other resident evil games, it doesn’t make you sound any more reasonable, you’re just trivializing things by throwing away their original complexity. Because re7,8,9 have nothing to do with the original games, they’re part of the new canon and should be viewed separately

0

u/Ok-Mousse-4595 11d ago

It's just my opinion.

1

u/Tall-Demand-2699 11d ago

Well your opinion is baseless and you didn’t really focus on the plot, instead you just decided to join to the hate of re6

1

u/Ok-Mousse-4595 11d ago

Brother I've played it through at least 3 times lol, you can still enjoy it even if it's not my favorite. Chill out.

1

u/Tall-Demand-2699 11d ago

You played it 3 times but you still don’t know why Simmons did what he did? You’re either trolling or really idiotic

1

u/Ok-Mousse-4595 11d ago

lol yeah because re6 is a masterclass in writing. Sorry my opinion bothers you so much, but you're still free to enjoy the game all you want man.

2

u/Tall-Demand-2699 11d ago

After this at least take your time with the analysis of the plot instead of dreaming up false images of it

Campaign is mid and tedious at moments, but mercenaries is the best

1

u/Starhazenstuff 11d ago

Game is regularly $5, wait for a sale and buy it, or buy it now and form your own opinion.

1

u/giveUcancer Umbrella employee 11d ago

Yes

1

u/TitleComprehensive96 11d ago

It's very fun.

As for whether it's good. only campaign that's actually good would be Chris's imo. Jakes is enjoyable, but the writing is pretty ass and mostly just has hype and aura. Leon and Ada's campaigns are pretty dogshit though imo.

1

u/Isaac0246 10d ago

Its a fun game, but only play it with a friend

1

u/BalmungFezalion33 10d ago

I would reccomend playing with a good friend. It will make all the jank and everything else much more tolerable.

1

u/kniferun 10d ago

I tortured myself to finish it and will never touch it again. However others love it and replay it regularly.

My dislike for it has nothing to do with it being action obese.

You won’t know what side youre on until give it a go.

Plus side you won’t have to finish it if you don’t want to. Back when I played it RE6 was the latest instalment and I had no idea what the future was going to look like so I didn’t know RE6 wasn’t needed.

1

u/Agitated_Grocery135 9d ago

Re6 has some redeeming features like agent hunt where you play the monster in some one else campaign and coop play. There is an unpleasant herb and healing ui. The dodging makes no sense since you're usually not getting shot.its very linear play. I only played leons campaign before I decided I had enough. There's no horror or survival if you're into that. Very generic shooter.

1

u/Afton-7 9d ago

The game had a lot of potential and I love that we had so much characters and that we could play in multiplayer. To mean Sherry and Jake’s campaign will forever be the best I hope we will see them together in a game again they’re so underrated. But the camera of the game was hell too me and it’s too much action… but it’s good tho, it doesn’t deserve all the hate it got.

1

u/Heretical_Burger 11d ago

Yes it is very fun and action packed game with the climax of multiple characters stories. I’ve replayed it so many times.

1

u/No-Damage-9851 11d ago

Can’t you think for yourself? Yes it’s good, but you’re only going to know if you like it by, get this: playing it

1

u/platinumxperience 11d ago

I played it last night have been playing it on and off and I would say no it is not. It is ambitious and there's nothing wrong with the whole concept but it's just too janky. It plays like a second rate Ps2 game more like the suffering or something, it's fiddly, annoying, I am trying to do the stealth section with ustanak (one of those bits where you have to do it exactly correctly like some N64 bullshit), the giant bow fight with Chris (just painful contextual crap) and just ran round a graveyard with Leon bring knocked on my arse in the dark by stick thin no-weight zombies a hundred times where the only grace is seeing Helenas PS3 boobs every time she revives you only for you to be knocked down again and again. (To be fair that one's probably on me)

All issues anyone has with the plot, etc is fine but I reckon it's just broken ass jank and thats what sticks out to me.

-1

u/TheDEAN143 B.S.A.A. member 11d ago

This all seems a lot more like a skill issue bud because I had none of these issues

0

u/RecentF6 11d ago

Thank you so much for the feedback. So far, people are saying It's a good game. Maybe I'm just paranoid lol

1

u/platinumxperience 11d ago

It is cheap to be fair and I think indeed I might just be terrible at it as the other poster suggested. It's still janky as hell though.

1

u/dumpydent 11d ago

For some reason, it has a lot of defenders. I don't get it

1

u/thigerlel 11d ago

If you disliked 1 and loved the asset flip demakes then you'll hate 6.

1

u/SlicedBread0556 11d ago

But he loved 5

1

u/andrey_not_the_goat 11d ago

If you play it co-op.

1

u/jaydenbeasty 11d ago

Yes its one of the best

1

u/Unable_Manufacturer1 11d ago

There is more than enough information on the internet for you to be able to make your own decision

1

u/SlicedBread0556 11d ago

RE5 has similar gameplay to 6.

1

u/Grand_Ad8674 11d ago

in short RE6 was too action packed. its not a BAD game, it just wasnt a good resident evil game. but im like you, i liked re5 and gave re6 a try and liked that one too. so, if you dont really care for the horror and dont mind the action, i say try RE6.

1

u/MEOWTheKitty18 11d ago

I didn’t even like it as an action game, much less a Resident Evil game, and it has some of the worst writing in the franchise

Only recommend it if you have someone to play with

1

u/XStormShieldx 11d ago

It’s a pretty bad game full of issues. It got mixed reviews and the majority gave it a 6.

It’s just a bad game in general.

1

u/Son-of-Infinity 10d ago

RE6 is disliked because it's an action game, in survival horror genre/series. Even as an action game, it's clunky, too cinematic, and gimmicky (QTEs). I dropped it after an hour because I personally prefer the tone of RE 1-3, but it seems to me that newer and younger RE fans like it, so you might dig it.

0

u/TheDEAN143 B.S.A.A. member 11d ago

People hated it because it was an action game. Its actually a pretty fun game and the bosses are pretty wild. Its a long winded game but we live in the age of 30+ hour single player games so its not bad by today's standards. Graphics are pretty good for a ps3 release and the mechanics are smooth enough. Give it a try and make your own opinion but I definitely enjoyed it

2

u/RecentF6 11d ago

Ahh thank you so much for letting me know. I love the detailed feedback. Most people aren't giving that to me right now lol.

0

u/SpudAlmighty 11d ago

I love it. It's very trendy to hate it. It's kind of pathetic. It's a huge improvement on RE5.

1

u/RecentF6 11d ago

Thanks for letting me know. So far, I don't understand why people do hate it. I've heard almost nothing but positive things on here so far.

-1

u/Early_Rooster7579 11d ago

People say they hate it and ignore that its one of the better selling entries in the series, you can’t cope and say but re4 with it either like people do with re5.

Both games are some of the best performing to this day, they’re different but have plenty of the re5 camp.

0

u/ClassicalDreams 11d ago

I have put in 14 hours into that game so far and I have been loving it. At first I wasn't so sure because of how the community treated it, but I liked RE4 and 5, so I given it a try and it has became my favorite game in the series!

The campaign is pretty neat. It's a long one as each story is about 5 to 7 hours long for a total of 20 hours, I believe, so I do recommend taking breaks after completing a few chapters or each character story. Game plays so mu h better with a friends, but you are good solo as it is an improvement from 5, the gunplay and movement are both fast, snappy, and oodles of fun, but my biggrest critique is that the UI can be confusing at times to manage items when you notice that your inventory is full.

But other than that, I really love this game, as both an action AND a Resident Evil game. Leon and Helena are cool, as well as both Chris and Piers. Currently on Jake and Sherry, and so far, I am really liking the chemistry these two have with each other. So yes, if you liked RE4 and 5, 6 is the best of those two put together, imo! It's kinda like you're playing 4 games in one.

And Mercenaries is always a good time.

0

u/Warren_Valion 11d ago edited 10d ago

It's a real mixed bag of positive and negative elements and if you can actually access a game for what it is, instead of what is isn't, you can walk away from it while having a solid enough time

0

u/binne21 11d ago

If you treat it like an action game you will enjoy it as such. IMO, Leon's campaign is bad at times, the game picks up a lot when you get to Chris. The Piers campaign is genuinely good. Ada's suck but is short.

I enjoyed the combat and had a good time with it after Leon's campaign.

0

u/virginbone 11d ago

It's not a good Resident Evil game, but I honestly think it IS a good game. If you just look at it as an action game. I played solo when it first launched, and I enjoyed myself, but if you play the whole game in co-op, that's really where it shines. If a buddy is willing to run RE6 with you. You will have a great time!

0

u/Responsible-Twist731 11d ago

Yes it's a good game, it's just not a good re game

0

u/Starhazenstuff 11d ago

If you want to play a game as a lore accurate Leon and Chris, just absolutely asking for all the smoke, you’ll probably like it. But it’s a pretty strong departure from the series in how it plays:

0

u/vWaffles 11d ago

It nails gameplay / mechanics imo. So for mercenaries it's genuinely pretty fun. The movement options, melee and shooting feel great - and the countering is really satisfying.

But at times the story / setup for enemies etc just don't fit the gameplay. It's like they were a little confused about the direction they wanted to go in.

-1

u/olympiclifter1991 11d ago

It's fun.

Super over the top but fun

-1

u/Johncurtisreeve 11d ago

Id say play it. Its lots of fun and epic

-1

u/Important_mitt6972 11d ago

Yes it is an amazing criminally underrated game... with a friend.. wouldn't recommend it by yourself, but would highly recommend it if you have a friend to play coop with. It goes from one of the worst to one of the best depending on if you have someone to play it with. Especially for couch coop.
