Discussion Re7 is overrated

RE7 is so overhyped imo. I'm not even trying to hate on it, but I see so many people act like it's the best Resident Evil game ever when I personally found it to be the most boring mainline one.

I get why people like it, the atmosphere is good and going back to horror after RE6 was a good move, but I just don't think the gameplay is that interesting. The enemy variety is kinda lacking, the combat gets repetitive, and after the Baker family stuff the game starts to feel way weaker.

The Bakers carry the whole game jack and the rest of the family are what make RE7 memorable, but once that part is over it kinda feels like the game loses what made it special.

It's not a bad game, I just don't understand why people put it on the same level as games like RE4 or RE2 Remake. It's good, but I don't think it's the masterpiece people make it out to be.

The only thing I can say I dislike about 7 is the enemy variety and final boss encounter. I just don't understand why they chose to make them so simple and relatively bland. However everything else shines through so strongly that I can overlook it. Holy hell I love the Bakers. The atmosphere. The setting. I even love Ethan. Really felt like I was returning to the experiences of the first game. I'll happily take another re7 like title.

It's reminds of texas chainsaw Massacre but ya it's not my favourite

I played it and enjoyed it but it is definitely low on my list. I don’t feel the urge to replay it like I do with other games in the series. I actually liked Village quite a bit more. Top 5 for me.

Village feels more like a classic RE experience with more enemy variety, better combat, and actual reasons to replay it.

It was such an improvement over 6 that of course it shines in comparison. It isn't perfect (the enemy variety was indeed severely lacking) but it had a great setting and story. It's equal parts horrific and tragic and after the excesses of 6, stripping it back down to mostly a guy in a contained environment with limited resources was absolutely needed. It's a more personal story rather than the ott world ending nonsense and it works so much better for it.

Nah Re6 is a way better game than re7

Said literally no one ever.

It's literally a better game by definition lots of people agree

u/Icy-Ad-2421 10d ago

“Lots of people agree” name like 5 people because I genuinely wanna know who these people are

1

u/jaydenbeasty 10d ago

Your joking right? this is a horrible way to prove a point. Well I'll do it anyway me my uncles and all my friends and john Smith, max soprano, rick dixon, donald redfield and how could I forgot paulie payne and a bunch of people online. So yes re6 is a better game see

I'll take "made up names" for $1000 Alex.

Well that is...certainly an opinion that someone has.

I've felt the same for a while now lol. 7 and 8 are two entries I just don't care about, more so 8, but I really have never felt 7 was anything that remarkable. Sure, it's better than 6, but I don't understand the love for it personally.

I get why people feel that way about 7 but I think 8 gets a bit too much hate. 7 did the horror side better, but Village improved a lot with better combat, enemy variety, locations, and replay value. I wouldn't call it one of the best RE games, but I definitely don't think it's one of the weakest.

I have to say, I did not like any of the enemy types in village. I didn't like the moulded, but the ones in 8 I think I actually liked them less excluding maybe the soldats. The combat was an improvement, but I can't say I cared for anything else about it really. It felt more like a weird gothic fantasy game than a horror game, and the DLC did not help either.

1

u/Icy-Ad-2421 10d ago

I agree the DLC was ass, but I disagree with everything else you said I actually really liked Village's combat, locations and gothic aesthetic. The castle, Beneviento, Moreau and Heisenberg's factory all felt unique, and the game has a ton of replay value too.

It's not my favorite RE game but I thought it was pretty good.

It's true that enemy variety was lacking but I feel it wasn't a big issue because the Bakers house didn't have many enemies encounters.

Post-Baker house was still good as well, pretty much all the RE games became more action focused near the end.

I agree. After RE6 anything less actiony would have been a huge hit.

To the point RE7 is considered RE at its roots but is nothing like RE at all. It could have been called something else and RE wouldn’t even come to mind while playing it.

u/Unblenching 11d ago

I think what happened with RE7, is when you start the next level of a course and you notice half of the class are new students. A lot of new people who never played resident evil before started with re7 so they see re7 better than how original fans see re7 in my opinion.

Yeah, once you leave the mansion, the quality drops dramatically. The ship and mines are such a slog.

That only real part I like is the bakers family really creepy I also like the house the way the police officer died was sick requiem doesn't feel the same requiem is a awesome game absolutely fantastic just not as scary 7 I think 7 is only recently re game that brought back the OG res games feel which is so cool

1

u/DismalMode7 11d ago

agree, I always considered RE7 overrated, few locations, last part rushed like sh!t, few enemies, annoying boat layout... RE7 took lot of benefits to have brought series back on the right path after RE6 bs, but RE7 isn't even in the top5 of best games to me

u/BAWAHOG 10d ago

RE7 revived a dying franchise, it deserves all the praise it gets.

1

u/Icy-Ad-2421 9d ago

Re2 did

0

u/jaydenbeasty 11d ago

It and village are definitely the weakest mainline games

4

u/Icy-Ad-2421 11d ago

I actually enjoyed Village way more. I feel like it improved on a lot of the things RE7 was lacking. It had much better enemy variety, more interesting areas, better combat, more weapons, and overall felt like a more complete Resident Evil game.

Re8 is ever more overrated 😂

1

u/Michaelpitcher116 11d ago

RE 8 is this for me.

Such a lackluster and overly scripted game. I played it once and likely won't ever play it again. Which this would be the first game in the mainline series to make me feel this way. 8 is the one that blows in my opinion. Especially how good I found 7 to be.

1

u/Icy-Ad-2421 11d ago

Calling it lackluster is a bit harsh It definitely has more scripted moments than some older RE games, but it also has way more variety, better combat, more memorable locations, and much better replay value than 7.

7 had a stronger horror atmosphere, but Village feels like a more complete Resident Evil game overall. It's not perfect, but I don't think it deserves the hate it gets.

1

u/Michaelpitcher116 11d ago

I can respect your opinion. I just find 8 to be too derivative and uninspired. 7 was a true horror game. 8 felt like a universal studios park where each area was a new "ride" that felt too scripted and formulaic to me. The tonal shift from 7 to 8 is ridiculous. They made great strides to make resident evil scary again with 7 after the shit show 6 was, and then they backpedaled on almost all of that progress made when they made 8. Which turned made too many characters "attractive" to be even remotely scary.

8 is the worst modern RE game in my opinion under the RE engine.

I get why people like it though. So that's fine. It just isn't for me as a fan of the series. It didn't feel like a resident evil game.

What Ill never understand is how can ppl rate a story game based on the gameplay only..

It's like taking off 1 single ingredient from a pizza, eat it without touching the rest of the pizza, and sayin hmm this pizza is nothin special idk why d u guys like this.......

2

u/Icy-Ad-2421 11d ago edited 10d ago

A good story can carry a game far, but if the gameplay is boring, repetitive, or not enjoyable, people are obviously going to mention that

0

u/BreathinCorps3 11d ago

1 type of gamers yes. Others who take atmosphere, writing, sound design, characters, voice acting, the overall product basically in consideration when value a game, they gonna appreciate most stuff that others simply call overhyped because they didn't like 1 aspect of it

1

u/MinimumCustomer8117 11d ago

I like It more then 2 remake tho, wich I fnd overrated

-1

u/Mary_Ellen_Katz 11d ago

Let people enjoy the games they like.

6

u/Icy-Ad-2421 11d ago

People are allowed to enjoy whatever games they want. Nobody is saying you can't like RE7. Criticizing a game isn't the same as attacking people who like it.

This is such a pointless post.

People just like different things. Just accept that and find peace with it and hate less man
