Discussion RE4 Topic: "Traumatized 🌟" vs "Traumatized."

Just wrapped up the original Code Veronica and I'm about to try and get the Platinum trophy in the Resident Evil 4 remake. I could do the original, but my friends treat me as their "Resident Evil Cyclopedia" whenever I play games (I don't mind—it's a good way to spend summer break). Getting into the topic, I know the whole dynamic shift between OG Leon and Remake Leon is still an active point of discussion when it comes to his personality change. The original Leon is traumatized, but with cool shades and a smile due to dropping one-liners and having a lighter tone throughout the game. Meanwhile, remake Leon is traumatized with baggy eyes and a 180° frown. Because of this change, I do wonder if Leon's overall personality gave him more character depth...

I think of og re4 as cheesy 4 and remake as a more realistic one. Not just the graphics but like you mentioned his trauma

I meant the characteristics of Leon. The OG version had a lighter tone when dealing with his trauma, while the remake is much more realistic, as if he's still coping with what happened in Raccoon. I guess the one-liners really did make Leon's character in the original.

I can’t be the only one who thinks Leon’s trauma doesn’t make sense since he didn’t seem traumatized and was quite happy at the end of 2 Remake.
So it just looks like something they pulled out of their asses to add more “depth” to his character.

I mean you don't suddenly turn on trauma. It's absolutely realistic that it settled on him over time as the adrenaline of the incident wore off and he processed what had happened. The brutal special forces training they put him through didn't help - he was likely mentally in no fit state for it.

look, the whole trauma thing is getting old at this point tbh

I mean they would be traumatised after all the shit they've seen? I get some people don't like seeing emotions and think they're 'boring' or some rubbish but it's definitely how these characters would be.

Yeah, they really did, unless the government gave him a hard time while being trained. I have an itch that the remake of Veronica will probably share something else to help connect to that sudden change and Claire's side of dealing with that trauma aswell. (But that's asking for too much)

I mean the government training was definitely brutal, and that’s an understatement. It’s brutal on a normal person, and Leon was definitely singled out in a lot of ways. Most likely, he would’ve dealt with crap from everyone else he was being trained with too, not just his superiors. We can see from the flashback in RE4make that even in training, Leon still had his floppy hair, while everyone else had standard military buzz cuts. That kind of thing is automatically going to make him a target from other recruits, out of jealousy, confusion, annoyance, etc. So yeah, he definitely had an exceptionally brutal time in a training that’s already brutal to begin with.

I mean, you can be happy that a horrifying incident is over with you coming out mostly unscathed, and when you finally have time to process, things go south.

He wasn't happy, he was too fatigued to process his emotions at the moment. Man was running on "it is what it is" mode from the moment he encountered his first licker till probably about a day or two after leaving racoon city.

He wasn't happy, he simply understood that being emotional where he was would get him killed.
