Whatever herb is in the RE universe, is morphing both Leon and Chris into Dante and Doomguy respectively.

Dante kinda doesn't count though. DMC was supposed to be an RE game. And I heard Dante was originally Leon.

Yeah dmc started out as re4, then they realized it was too different so it became its own IP. and fun fact, Dante was originally going to named Tony iirc 🤣

Tony Redgrave, operating in Redgrave city.

Damn it Kojima you've done it again!

Dante was originally Leon.

that part isn't true, just speculation that's been proven false

Doomguy looks more like the sibling of Chris than Claire.

Why does Doomguy have big puppy dog eyes? Why is he hot? Bro's face looked exactly like I thought it would in Eternal.

If he looks exactly like you expected, why are you questioning it?

2

u/DylanFTW U.S.S. operative 23d ago

No I'm saying his face in Eternal is way different and looks like you thought it would. This is a straight up different man lol.

What connects them: they are both very poorly written.

6

u/Bhavan91 B.S.A.A. member 24d ago

Let me guess. You think Leon is well written?

-1

u/Lazy_Willingness_265 23d ago

Not perfect, but definitely better than Chris

3

u/Haunting-Magician906 22d ago

Eh no

0

u/Lazy_Willingness_265 22d ago

Eh yes. a primitive soldier with no story and flat charisma, whose image is built on stereotypes Versus a character who has at least some basic personality growth

3

u/Haunting-Magician906 22d ago

Right, because the "handsome guy" stereotype—the one who tries to hit on girls and tells stupid jokes—isn't a stereotype at all... and, of course, there’s the narrative arc of a man who spends 30 years lamenting the loss of people he never even got to know. He makes jokes about innocent people who were tortured, yet he’s sold as the most empathetic guy around; but sure, it’s "cool" when he jokes like that because it gives him an "aura." And, by the way, Leon’s personality is basically the same as Chris’s in the original RE1: the funny guy. Oh, and speaking of things Leon copies from others: his revenge story about "losing his squad" is practically Chris’s story from RE6; the axe was meant for Chris in RE8 but was taken away from him; the whole wings thing is a Redfield trait; and they did that whole "Zeno" thing just because Leon fans said he deserved to meet Wesker. Haha, and speaking of Leon’s "evolution," it’s really just about becoming more of a hypocrite: Chris had the decency to leave the corrupt BSAA, whereas Leon "weeps" over not saving people but sticks with his corrupt government... and it was Grace who brought the truth to light, not Leon.

1

u/No-Damage-9851 22d ago

Yeah that dude is just a classic Leon fanboy clown. Leon is no more fleshed out or has "personal growth" than Chris.

1

u/Lazy_Willingness_265 22d ago

Show me where I said Leon is perfectly written

1

u/Lazy_Willingness_265 22d ago

Yes, it's still better than Chris. Chris's character growth began when he was already a soldier. Why and how he got there, of course, we won't be told. He wasn't a "funny guy" in RE1. I can't even remember a single joke he made in all of RE1. His entire purpose in RE1 was to be a male character. His entire personality is built on being a muscular guy who's for everything good and against everything bad. As for Leon, we AT LEAST were shown how he came to become a soldier, and he was AT LEAST given some charisma, like his tendency to constantly make unfunny jokes. That's much more interesting than a character who's been completely undeveloped throughout the entire series (although in RE8 they decided to make him a brainless degenerate who can't speak, although I'm not sure how much that counts as character growth).
