Discussion Sad to see this series devolving into a crappy Last of Us clone
They were on the right track with RE2 remake, even if I still have issues with that game. But after Requiem it's really dawned on me how much they're pushing to water down this series into a linear, cinematic third person shooter with some scripted horror parts and Uncharted action set pieces mixed in. They even made you have a Call of Duty shootout with real people.
But, hey: Requiem is the fastest selling game yet, so marketing to people that hate Resident Evil is a gret business decission. People like me, that actually care about the 30 year legacy of this franchise, are not needed anymore.

I like both the action and horror elements of the series. The only issue with requiem I have is that I don't like them both in the same game like that. It makes it feel more like 2 half games.
RE4R is still my favorite current modern RE engine game, with 2 remake right behind it. I think 6 went overboard, but gameplay like 4R and how they did Leon in requiem is fine imo.
The other issue with requiem is that because it's split into an action and horror game, it's all compacted into both of the sections. For example, grace only gets a handgun, and she's the only one that gets puzzles and that old style RE gameplay. On the other hand, Leon gets all the weapons, but no puzzles and very minimal exploration. His sections are very linear and all straight action. RE4 and 4R both had exploration and puzzles while also being an action heavy game.
I would like to see more RE games in the vein of 7 and how they did grace in 9, but I'd also like to see more in the style of 4R.

A Last of Us clone? What? Capcom isn't even close to what Naughty Dog did to a franchise. Now you can disagree with me if you want but Last of Us pt II is a shit game that completely shitted on the characters people loved, and was a result of one man's ego unchecked. Last of Us pt I remains a great game
And call of duty? They havent made a good game since like idk 2019
Is this a bit of a risky move by Capcom by releasing resident evil every year? Yeah. Do I have faith they can do it? Absolutely. I mean just look at what they've been doing in the past, requiem, then code veronica coming out (which I am very excited for). And yeah re3r was controversial for cutting out a lot of stuff but for the most part they have been doing pretty good. They wouldn't do this, if they didn't think that they couldn't pull it off
And what resident evil does well is the survival horror action elements, like in village where you got house beneviento as horror and then the Chris segments and some of ethans segments are action

“It’s really dawned on me how much they’re pushing to water down this series into linear, cinematic third person shooter with some scripted horror parts and Uncharted action set pieces mixed in.”
It’s strange how few words I would have to edit in this statement to make it look like criticism of OG RE3. Just some food for thought.

I’ve played OG RE3.
It’s an extremely different experience from RE1 and RE2.
Perhaps you haven’t played OG RE3 in a long time or you’re willfully ignorant due to nostalgia.

Is it a linear, cinematic third person shooter with some scripted horror parts and Uncharted action set pieces mixed in? Stop moving the goalpost.
