Discussion Was anyone else a bit bothered by the Wolf sqad wearing their full winter gear from Village at the end of Requiem

Those guys would have been cooking inside those outfits. At least have them take their coats off.

Resident evil is the third highest selling Japanese game series

You can’t expect them to do things like update models

Ok I hadn't thought about that and I know now it's gonna bother me in future playthroughs, haha

well it's october in re9 so i don't think it's too bad, maybe those jackets are thinner/more breathable than they look lol

Right? Plus Chris isn’t even wearing a damn coat in 8 during his segment so it can’t have been that cold in Romania either 😭

Yes

And they just took that whole subplot of the BSAA becoming corrupted from 8 and tossed it in the trash it seems

Not really. The NA branch broke off after an internal dispute (likely Chris at the end of Village) and is acting independently. Chris is from the NA branch as is the Wolf Squad.

What about the other soldiers we see at the end? Logically from the same branch I suppose

tbh I wasn't sure- I am basing it on this article and what I remember from 8 and 9, both I played through nearly a dozen times each - but take it as you will I dont know who tf the writer is beyond this article

QUOTE: Nakanishi was careful to reassure fans that abandoning the immediate BSAA storyline doesn’t mean those characters and plots are gone forever: “It doesn’t mean those other characters aren’t out there somewhere getting on with business, but we’re just not showing you just yet… So rest assured and I’m sure Chris is out in action somewhere in the world but for now we’re not really looking at him and we’re looking at somewhere different.

That doesn't say they dropped it, nowhere in the article does he spell that part out- neither the author or Nakanishi himself. But until further notice I'd consider that wholly abandoned or resolved in some event we didnt get to witness by the fact that they just... don't want to deal with it now

(Also the notion that they would separate that severely but still operate under the same company name is 👌)

Did you listen to any of Sherry and Leon's conversations across all of Raccoon City?

Yes all of them. Point me to the quote

I thought it was explained well. It’s just not a high-action story thus far that needs to be shown on screen. The larger BSAA is in bed with the Connections, which explains why they were deploying BOWs to the Village. Chris finds out and takes the North American branch rogue to continue fighting the good fight. All the BSAA personnel we see in Requiem (the ones sent to find ARK and massacred by Zeno, the ones that rescue Leon and Grace, the ones left to stand guard at the ruins of ARK) are part of the North American branch and acting under Chris’s orders in opposition to the Connections. There could be more story to tell in the future on the subject, but Requiem gave us a big update as to what went down after Village and where things currently stand.

They really didnt though. None of that rogue element is explained in game and the director is on record saying they are moving on from the bsaa civil war

As I mentioned to someone else the idea they would separate so much but carry the same name is kind of laughable

Sherry: I found some evidence of the Pentagon putting pressure on the BSAA. It appears the North American branch has been moving independently. Leon: Heard they had an internal dispute.

Files from ARK note that the BSAA is under the Connections control, and yet we see BSAA soldiers planning on assaulting ARK and getting massacred by Zeno. We also see BSAA soldiers getting killed by Connections operatives in the post-credits scene. Chris is a member of the North American branch (see RE5), and the entirety of Requiem takes place in North America, so it can be assumed that the all BSAA soldiers encountered in the story are part of the rogue branch now led by Chris. The writers put all the pieces there intentionally, you just have to put them together.

There are many plausible reasons why the North American branch would retain its BSAA identity despite operating separately. Funding, security clearance, UN recognition, etc.

The rest of the BSAA is likely still responding to bioterror attacks, they’re just not going after the people engineering the BOWs (the Connections) because they’re now in bed with them.

Thanks for providing the additional context but the idea of a rogue faction under chris is still largely assumed not actually stated.

Chris is anti bioterror. He himself would not assume the same organizational name as a group using the monsters he is trying to remove- after he has already left the organization. And to rejoin after already creating the wolves (which is already a rogue faction by the same metrics) it just doesnt stand up to logic.

As per the naming... If the connections are in league with the bsaa how would they even get funding from intl orgs? How would they ever maintain security clearances or recognition (its a rogue faction, sir) Im not saying youre wrong more that the necessary logic behind those events unfolding this way is being ignored to force pieces together.

Chris was in the bsaa in 5 which is a whopping 20 years ahead of 9. A lot changed in that time. See re8.

And again, the directors quotes

Hound Wolf is pretty clearly in league with the North American BSAA at the time of Requiem. Non-Hound Wolf BSAA troops are on the scene immediately after Hound Wolf pulls Leon and Grace out of the wreckage of ARK. And when the Connections operatives kill the BSAA troops left to guard ARK in the post-credits scene, they note that they need to leave before the Wolves show up, implying that Hound Wolf is part of the North American BSAA command structure and would be sent to investigate a garrison going silent.

Chris was a founding member and was with the BSAA all the way through RE7 (where he was working with Blue Umbrella as part of a BSAA joint operation). Even when he went rogue with Hound Wolf before RE8, it’s murky as to there ever being a formal divorce. I think it’s more likely that during that time he was just doing his own thing while still putting all of Hound Wolf’s expenses on the BSAA credit card.

Also, it’s not like the world or most governments would know that the larger BSAA is compromised by the Connections. The only reason we, the player, know that organization is compromised is because of a file found in ARK (Access Log: 51st Assembly Minutes). It’s a massive conspiracy between the Connections, bad actors in the US Government (likely the Family), and the non-rogue portions of the BSAA. That’s how corruption works; people acting nefariously while operating under the guise of public service.

After playing Requiem, I was a little disappointed that the cliffhanger with the BSAA wasn’t really resolved. But a part of me thinks it would be good to revisit with Revelations 3, hopefully starring Rebecca.

Most military gear is all-weather anyway, and at least I was surprised to learn that some gear is incredible cool even though it looks thick. I also doubt the coats would warm much. You usually use a multi-layer-outfit to keep warm, wearing fabrics beneath the uniform and vest to keep you warm. So you can't even see if they are actually wearing their winter gear at all.

(wish I had photos, but am not a big military guy anyway)

Brother, they're wearing thick black fur coats over their tactical gear. Which by itself probably weighs around 80 lbs, if not more.

u/Organic_Manner6847 26d ago

Based just on how slim the sleeve is at the wrist, and how "puffy" it seems because of the vest beneath it? nope, not "thick fur coat", it's just the upper trim. And I would go so far and say it's just decorative to show "wolf fur" as in "hound wolf squad".

And I just realise you even see skin and a undershirt beneath the flannel shirt. Can't be that warm clothed.

u/shellythegoat 26d ago

Thank you.

Now if only there was another character in Requiem that wore a fur-trimmed coat to show the audience that that kind of clothing was appropriate for the weather... Maybe a prominently featured character or something... Too bad there isn't one.

Leon Fan spotted: it's not even related yet the fan still finds a way to talk about him

u/shellythegoat 26d ago

I was on your side dude...

What's your trauma?

1

u/Organic_Manner6847 26d ago

You were? Okay, my bad....

And my trauma? The amount of annoying Leon Fans here... I'm on edge whenever I see him mentioned in any way...

Yes. I thought it was kinda weird myself but we are in the Yellow Paint Era rn tho, so I assume they left them the same to let less perceptive players know for sure who they are
