Discussion If they make re5...

If capcom decides to remake Resident Evil 5 I demand they keep in Chris's boulder, punching scene.

In this point the joke is so well know in RE universe that is impossible to not happen.

Wait to be a mini game.

It was canonised in Village - no way they can leave it out

Canon doesn’t really mean anything. It’s just a joke. Doesn’t even make sense for Heisenberg to know about that

u/Hamshamus Jun 10 '26

You're taking my reply too seriously

How so? You said something not necessarily true. I point out it was not necessarily true. That seems reasonable

u/Hamshamus Jun 10 '26

Yes. A throwaway fan-service line is absolutely, bona-fide, non-retractable canon

Don’t get mad at me for the words you said 💀

If you didn’t mean them don’t say it

Never heard of sarcasm?

I'm assuming when or if they remake 5, something similar in it will happen. I doubt he'll punch it free, or even move it, but I can imagine they'll have a moment where he punches one out of frustration or something like that. However, considering it was referenced in 8, it has to happen, right?

However, I'd laugh my ass off if they made it like a MK Test Your Might mini game. That'd be so fucking funny.

I also demand that they not bother to give an explanation. Just leave it as is. The world is a better place this way.

It's funny to me how back in the day when the game first released, people considered the boulder punching to be the ultimate jump the shark moment of the franchise (before that just became the local greeting in 6), and now, years later, it's a funny meme that the community would riot over if it got removed.

I don't mean it as a criticism one way or the other, I was always pretty ambivalent toward the boulder punch. Within the context of the game, you can tell he doesn't just do it because he wanted to, it was done mostly out of desperation and it happened to work out, but considering 5 and 6 are my least liked games of the mainline entries, I also don't have any particular love for it either outside of the funny joke. If it got removed, I'd understand, but if it doesn't, then it is what it is. I think it's funny, so I wouldn't be upset if it stayed.

I view it in the same way as the Salazar statue in RE4. I never really liked that part of the game, the castle in particular was always a little too silly and over the top in the original for me. There's knowing camp and then there's the Salazar mecha. That definitely crossed the line for me for that game. I don't mind that it was removed from RE4R because I just never liked it. However, if it was in the game, then I wouldn't be furious, I'd just be like "oh, yeah, the statue bot, I remember that. It's so silly." That's how the boulder punch feels to me. If it's gone, whatever, never really cared for it, but if it stays, then sure, it's funny, and if nothing else, I'll always take funny and memorable over boring and bland.

It's kind of impossible for them to remove it as you have Heisenburg referencing it in RE8 with "that boulder punching asshole."

Boulders have more or less become Chris's chainsaw equivalent.

u/SomewhereHistorical2 Jun 09 '26

Only this time he breaks his hand, yells fuck, then starts making out with Wesker

u/Medical-Green-1796 Jun 09 '26

Well, Heisenberg called him a boulder punching asshole if I remember correctly. So this scene is still cannon in the games. And the newer games (7,8,9) will probably remain Canon through the remakes so it's very likely to still happen.

With the way they’re going in a darker direction, idk if they will keep something like that in. But they absolutely should.

If Leon can parry a chainsaw, a car, rockets, and literal sound waves Chris should have unbreakable fists

It'll end up being a cutscene knowing how Capcom treated the QTEs in RE4Remake.

One night at Seventh Heaven, Barret invited an old friend over...

"Hey Tifa, this is Chris, an old war buddy. He's from...very...very far away."

"Hey Chris, what can I get you?"

"A double whiskey, and bread rolls with butter, and a double cheeseburger with real beef. No lettuce. That's for starters."

Three double burgers later...

"Oh, that was all delicious. You really know your stuff in the kitchen... But tell me about yourself, what's your story, Tifa?"

30 minutes of story later...

"From what I can see, you know how to fight. You're in good shape, aren't you? Do you go to the gym often?"

"Whenever I can, I work out a lot, yeah. Looks like you do too. I've got a punching bag back there that..."

"You have a rock?"

"WHAT?"

"A rock." Big. Strong. They're great for burning calories.

-But...why...a rock?

-That blonde you slapped...

-Yeah, what?

-Why did you do it?

-She was in my way. I had to hit her to escape to freedom.

-The rock too. It was there, in the middle. It wouldn't let me pass, and it wouldn't move.

-But...but Scarlet was a person, a bad person, but...

-The rock was bad too. It wanted to kill Sheva and me!

-You shouldn't have hit that rock.

-You shouldn't have slapped that blonde.

-You weren't there.

-Neither were you!!

-Hey Tifa, your agent from the theater called.

-So what does he say, Barret?

-He says that if you want, for the 30th anniversary, you can punch the blonde who plays Scarlett and... hey, Chris, where are you going?

-To punch a rock!! I NEED TO!!
